I use live bait. The fish is less likley to spit it out. For live bait, I'd say worms and spikes(wierd little grubs). Spikes have hard shells and one can usually catch four fish before it falls off! I attach a worm or two also to add weight and movement.

I rememebered i caught a 3 lb pike, probably close to 26 inches long. WhenI opened it up I was lookin at the stomach and a found half a fish in there. It was probably 4 inches long and swalloed whole.....watch your toes and other parishibles hahahahaha
