What I liked about Steven Seagal's earlier fight scenes is that they seemed like real fights. You know how real fights are kind slow and sloppy, and seem like every hit hurts?

Another awesome fight is in Blood and Bone with Michael Jai White. The fight where he goes against Matt Mullins. Search for it. You won't be disappointed.

No disrespect, but this is a horrible representation of "best" even for modern day movies; of which you've missed decades of previous movies that are far superior in almost any ones opinion. For more modern flicks I would put even IP MAN and IP MAN 2 far beyond these and let's not talk about all the 60's through 80's martial art films you've missed, etc. Cheers anyhow.

i just discovered what seemsso wrong with the fight between achilles and hector, neither of them are actually using their shields much, mostof the time the shields arejust hanging by their sides...

There are many different techniques using shield and sword,

not all using the shield that much.

The advantage of a shield is a big cover, the disadvantage is your lack of mobility.

You remember how Achilles holds his shield in his neck?

this way he covers his neck and head,increases the range of his sword-arm by changing body-pose AND loses no mobility since the shield does not need to be used, it's just there.

So you see, not a mistake ;)

@Khaine56 maybe im more used to viking style sword and shield, but even those using kite and almond shields make a point of always keeping the shield between them and the opponent, if its just hanging there by your side half the time, its only weighing you down, when hector makes that little slice to the front of achilles cuirass, achilles' shield was way away from him

@Khaine56 i assume your familiar with the spanish rotella? thats similar to the aspis and mycenean round shields in its method of use, and if sword and fist bucker is any indicator you dont hold a shield limply by your side, your sword and shield work in concert always, shields can bind limbs and blind an opponents vision, they can used as striking implementsthese guys seem to be mostly using their arms to bring their shields up from their sides, to defend their front. a waste of energy by both.
