this album has such an ethereal beauty about it, i dont care what anyone says, after this it went down hill, the last truely great numan album. this was always going to be a hard act to follow, dance and i assassin, while good, dont reach anywhere near the same heights; ok i'll rephrase, after i assassin it was all down hill, and i agree with those who say he relies way to much on ade (who is a good musician, but the other chap i dont know much about)
Yeah, all those bubbling percolating synths were during the violin solo on the original,it's too bad they mixed it out. they moved all over your headphones and gave the song a hell of a dreamsequence.
I'm glad others have noticed the missing synth part - I honestly thought my headphones were on the blink when I listened to my Telekon cd!! A real shame it being left out on the cd, WHYYYY????I ask. Still, I have the vinyl from the year so can still wallow in the original version. Lovely song with many thought provoking effects!!!!
You're right dstdvl. I have this on cassette and used to have it on vinyl and at the 3:16mark, there is a spacey synth solo. It's not on the CD version of the album for some strange reason. Check out the live version from the Micromusic clip here on Youtube, and the keyboardist performs the solo only Numan vocalizes along with it.
I know what you guys are talking about now. i never had this on cassette, but check the live version from Living Ornaments '80. I'm not sure, but I think that synth part you're talking about is in that live version.
i brought thr 12'' in london. 1980. numan is a visionary

There are definitely some variations out there with Telekon, most noticeable on Vapour and the Joy Circuit.

Only version I have with the added synth part is on the original 1987 pressing of the album on CD.
Not sure if it's on the Asylum version or on the 1993 reissue.
Song sounds so empty without it.
Odd no 30th re issue of Telekon after Replicas and Pleasure Principle got their treatments.

Are you saying the synth is in this one?

"The missing synth part" was remixed on the cd version, which of course that is what appears to be uploaded.

NIN's cover of Metal uses parts of this as the outro, that's why it was so long.
Realworstnightmare 2 years ago
@Realworstnightmare
Im afraid you are wrong, the outro that NIN use at the end of Metal is actually from M.E.
