I saw "Shades of Blond" in a hall east of Bowden Alberta, that held about 150 people. Was always a fan of "49TH Parallel". Saw them every chance I had. If I remember right, they opened for "Iron Butterfly" in Calgary around 1970 -71. "Laborer" has always been # 1 in my mind. Saw Painter a couple of times. Those were the good old days.
You're wrong. They were all from Calgary & Edmonton Alberta, Canada. Please read th band bio below my video...and check out Bob Ego's website. They evolved out of 60s bands 'Shades Of Blond" and "The 49th Parallel" who were from Calgary.
This is one fantastic album.......very underappreciated in my opinion!! I also have a white-label promo vinyl copy, that I was lucky enough to find YEARS ago.......
Wonderful stuff.. amazing songs, nice video and pics. Thank-you for posting all this.. and to a friend for sending. You did a nice job transfering from vinyl.. sounds great :))
Thanks...glad you enjoyed! I've been a fan of this band since back in the day, and saw them live on a few occasions. I remember seeing "Painter" predecessor acts "Shades Of Blonde" and "49th Parallel" played at my High School as well....long live slabs of plastic, turn tables and them funky old school tube amps with massive capacitors :)
drprogensteinphp -Thanks for posting "West Coast Woman" and others!
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
Hmm...I don't remember that. Though one of the last shows I do recall seeing at Murphy's was either Savoy Brown (Kim Simmonds Band), or Powder Blues Band...and even that's a bit of a blur.
I remember seeing John Baldry there, and Jeff Healy several times.
Murphy's was a great venue though...are they still open? Yes...the food never seemed to arrive at he table, Lol.
I remember 451° (451 Degrees)...I'm not sure if I remember "4 0ut Of 5" though. But the last time I saw Wayne was in the Shamrock Hotel (Calgary) around the time 451° recorded their album (1980). If I recall, Martin Barre (guitarist/Jethro Tull) guested on a couple tracks on that LP.
"If any else runs into him take him back in time and ask about Murphy's"....
Do you mean Murphy's Pub? I know (knew) it well, Lol.
Goin' Home to Rock and Roll 7:30
