It's not that Seth MacFarlane isn't funny, it's just that his humor isn't fit for a cartoon show. His gag humor is great, but that's all his shows are based off of. Gag humor. It's just a WTF moment after WTF moment. Not even his characters hold any sense of depth and he'll willingly have them stray from their usual personalities for a cheap laugh. Hell, he even throws in five flashbacks per-show just to wedge in jokes completely unrelated to the things going on in the episode.

The concept of American Dad itself is funnier, the characters don't stray from their personalities, and half the show doesn't consist of disjointed flashbacks. But, it's still jammed with similar WTF humor, and, because of how annoyed Family Guy makes me, I truly can't appreciate any of Seth's work out of bias, especially now that he's been given a THIRD show, and worse yet, it's a Family Guy spinoff.

Seth certainly doesn't have the comedic genius of The Simpsons' during their first ten years.
