  • At the final position (the line in which the White player doesn't fall for the trap) moves like B5 make a good alternative, with the idea of Bb7 -> a6 -> b4 and c5

  • c'mon c'mon....doooo eeeet!! i'm heeeeyah!!

  • lol

  • @FinalBossDesu

exactly, i knew about this when i was 1000, i cant believe someone would fall for it at KC's level. bad idea to try it unless for the lulz of losing :P

  • Very naughty indeed!

  • Thats a good one. I think this would work in blitz against someone who doesn't know the trap, but as far as over the board, you could try to immitate (I believe it was Kasparov, maybe Karpov) but the expression on his face when he blunder his queen in that famous you tube video. I can't seem to find it now, it was everywhere a few months ago. Wierd. But yea after you take his knight then look down to realize you left your Queen open you really need to make a gut wrenching expression.

  • @Nola213 Look for "kasparov wrong move"

  • Why is it called the "Elephant" trap?

  • @senorgringolingo Back in the mists bishops were known as elephants

  • Now this is a trap :)

  • Thanks for the video! I like this trap. If white doesn't play 5. cxd5, I've found that the light-square bishop can be freed using an idea borrowed from the Meran. For example:

    5. Nf3 c6

    6. e3 a6

    7. Bd3 dxc5

    8. Bxc5 b5

    9. Be2 Bb7

And now c5 is coming, after which the light-squared bishop is comfortably placed on the long diagonal.

  • Nbd7 is fine. I play it heading into a Cambridge Springs setup so I see trap unfold from time to time.

  • Hi KC there is a nasty trap in the queens indian. cant recall it but think it starts with a M. If my memory is ok even Capablanca fell into this trap twice!!!! May you can do a video on that? Thanks

  • hi KC, Yea saw this trap for the first time in a book called the "the most instructive games of chess ever played" by Irvin Chernew i think. There are quiet a few a traps in that book, some very good games as well. Might want to do some of them. It was my frist chess book and I could not put it down!!!!

  • KC, you're not watching the Olympiad games?

  • First!!! Thanks!
