I hate how The Crusade songs are always compared to Metallica. I personally don't hear the resemblance at all. Matt's vocals are a lot harsher than Hetfield's and he's often said that his biggest inspiration on that vocal style was Rob from Machine Head. And on terms of guitar, there's not that big a difference in the sound of guitar parts from that of Ascendancy, maybe on a couple of songs like The Rising, Anthem and To The Rats, just sounds a lot heavier to me.

I hear people talk about Metallica and Megadeath and Trivium here but the thing with Trivium is they managed to play almost every genre of metal from speed metal, trash, death to heavy metal on one album (The Crusade) their genre cannot be defined in this album, they play them all... And some songs will modulate into another kind of metal right in the middle of the song. You can't put a label on this band because they just play all the good metal the Trivium way. They are extremely versatile.

I think if a band plays good music then they're good regardless of genre.
