  • This is a very "spotless" video. =p

  • lol. love her eyebrows. ^^

  • she is the girl with "brown" hair LOL

  • Most of what you see on televised shows these days is a lush studio track lip-synched. This is the real deal, and a testimony to the tremendous talent Karen had. She was one-of-a-kind.

  • the tempo on this seems slightly off, does anyone know if she ever recorded this??? If she did, I'm sure it was awesome. She was good on stage, but the studio seems to be where she truly shined.

  • Me encanta Karen..

me da tanta pena como se ve U_U

  • this song is just lovely, she gave a very unique touch. but those eyebrows.

  • @bolong The eyebrows are great because they were part of her. It's thoughts - like a persons eyebrows need to be a certain way - that are the problem--NOT the eybrows. I love the voice, and by all accounts she wa sa damn fine human being--If only she could still be here with us I don't care if she weighed 400 pounds and had a unibrow-she would still be stunning.

  • Acá estaba en uno de los picos de su anorexia, se la ve muy debilitada. una lástima-

  • This music is absolutely perfect that she sings. It describes her. It's a talent that everyone listen to her when she sings.

  • thank you dear karen where ever you are , thanks for the music your music and beautiful voice / gracias querida karen donde quiera que estes gracias por tu musica y tu bella voz /egberto #fan

  • her voice is top notch!!!!!

  • im 18 and i really love the carpenters... i wonder what karen would look like if she's still alive now... i wish im alive during 70's, they have such great songs, unlike now...

  • @Msmonkeyeater maybe a couple of wrinkles in her forehead and cheeks and half turned hair pulled back in a french twist and grayish ring around those golden brown eyes also a few inches shorter in height

  • Thank you to Abba for giving us this song,

Thank you for Karen Carpenter for singing it to perfection <3

  • Thank you for the music Abba.

  • @zlatantillifk And let me say the same goes for Carpenters.

  • I have the utmost admiration and respect for the talent that is Karen Carpenter. What a voice. It is hard to believe that, if she was still with us, she would be 61!

  • I have the utmost admiration and respect for the talent that is Karen Carpenter. What a voice. It is hard to believe that, if she was still with us, she would be 61!

  • I always thought that this song was perfect for Agnetha Fältskog and for Karen Carpenter.

    Two very talented women!!!

  • Super talent. RIP Karen.

  • I love 70's music, I hate 70's Hairdos, the interviewer hair looks like fake fake hair

  • @beangie

I guess you've never seen Farrah Fawcett in the 70s. Her hair looked just fine...

  • @Stryc9Nine I've seen her, but I'm just not a fan of the fluffy Wookie hair look :(

  • look how i sing this song! hope you enjoy!

  • Karen is special and never a bore

  • ABBA rocks and Karen rocks !!!

  • I prefer Abba's version

  • the song sounds cute coz of her voice...

  • I am SO glad that Karen did this song. I absolutely cannot stand ABBA's version.

  • i love you karen..

  • She was never a bore.

  • When it's her who sings the song, the song sounded more beautiful than the original. Her voice and interpretation is phenomenal, she hits the notes perfectly and her low voice is rich and full. She's unmatched and extraordinary.

  • ABBA Rocks!

  • Abba and TC had a deal, relax, don't worry..musicians does it all the tiem ;)

  • she looked gr8 in here

  • it doesn't matter to me whether ABBA or Karen Carpenter sang it better, they are both great artistes!

  • ABBA did this better

  • thumbs up if you think that she is an angel.

  • Never seen this before - done Miss Carpenter style - heavenly of course x

  • Her voice was a conformation of something larger than just a musical idea. It gave you the idea of a higher force.

  • Really looking forward to the day some of the Carpenters backstage footage is released, of before & after the shows. I've been lucky enough a while back to see some INCREDIBLE footage. Now as far as someones question of who Karen admired as friends most. Karen Loved Debbie & Carol very much & would of Loved to get back to conn. much more. Karen didn't look at herself as famous & these two ladies are down to earth & not out for the celebrity. Only mistake they made was talking to Randy Schmidt.

  • If you had a chance to see the Carpenters at the MGM (now Ballys) it would have been well worth it. She has the best voice ever.

  • I thought this song was written after Karen's death...... im getting my dates confused...

  • What a terrible version. Even something as gorgeous as Karen's voice is completely killed by the corny, run-of-the-mill arrangement suitable for the lousiest of Las Vegas joints.

  • @gormarx I agree. Where is the oomf!?

  • Most beautiful voice of all time. Whoever disagrees with this is in total denial. Her voice quality and interpretation of songs are one of a kind and unmatched. Her low vocal range is extraordinary and she can hit some high notes beautifully. Has very good personality.

  • @grobanfan2 Her voice was a conformation of something larger than just a musical idea. It gave you the idea of a higher force.

  • Oops... Thought I was searching :)

  • Abba thank you for the music

  • I prefer abba's performance,.. agnetha sing it with a sweet touch :)

  • Karen thank YOU for the music.

  • so i say Thank you for butchering this son, Abba was better, doo doo doo doo doooo

  • I like abba but Karen is amazing...every song she sings has so much soul

  • Karen is amazing. She might not have had the most "rangy" voice but is was certainly the most soulful and rich. RIP Karen we will cherish your contributions. HOWEVER Richard is a total douche bag. I am tired of seeing interviews where he minimizes him and his parents lack of care for Karen and her illness yet he MAXIMIZES him being the talent behind the Carpenters. Minus Karen this band wouldn't have stood a chance and would have been utterly dismissible.

  • agnetha sings it better, but she's ok

  • 50 people disliked it?!? Are they deaf or something??

  • ABBA got owned by there own song. Karen! hands down. respect

  • @areumybitch haha, ABBA did actually do a really good live performance of this song. I dunno, they're both good

  • @Meconfusedalot yah exactly. did not mean to offend abba fans but both of them actually did an awesome job

  • She is

  • Sdhe id best voice voice of all

  • Love her voice <3

  • Muito bom...... Adorei!

    Obrigada Robert por me enviar...

    Beijos da Sissa ♥

  • I was expecting nothing after listening the Abba version...not that bad. I like his voice but prefer the musical backrgound of Abba.

  • She was SO beautiful in SO many ways....... nothing more needs to be said.

  • Do you remember were you were when her death was announced? I was having my Hemorrhoids Cauterised by a catholic heavy weight boxer in a sleazy hotel in Manchester UK

  • her eyebrows are horrible!

  • i very like it

  • foi o ano que eu nasci

    bons tempos

  • Ironically, when I saw Agnetha of ABBA doing this song, I thought she was covering a Carpenters song. I was wrong. It was their original song. So here is Karen Carpenter covering the song that I thought was hers in the first place.

  • @at90percent

The "I am the girl with golden hair" should have been a giveaway. :)

  • Karen, still The Voice

    adalberto tripicchio

  • is karen very thin?

  • @josuecochi yes bec. she was addicted in slimming pills...

  • very good

  • Yes ...

    C&P12

  • did they record this befor ABBA?

  • @wcwnumber1fan The Carpenters did not record this song before ABBA. The song's music and lyrics were written by ABBA and the song is an ABBA original. The Carpenters performed a cover of this song.

  • @ieatpeas24 What do you mean ABBA ripped this song off? This song was written by ABBA, specifically Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus.

  • @lightspeedv how dare you

  • @lightspeedv yea i believe they have composed the song but seriously the carpenters sing so much better than their version and pwned them. Even MaMa Mia version is better than the ABBA version in my opinion.

  • @wingwing0404 To say "i believe they have composed the song" meant that there's a chance ABBA did not compose it. FACT: Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus composed this song, released in 1977.

While Karen Carpenter is a phenomenal singer and The Carpenters were amazing, IMO, they do not sing this song as well as Agnetha does. This song was written specifically with Agnetha in mind. "Thank You for the Music" was intended to form part of a "mini-musical" called "The Girl with the Golden Hair".

  • I agree that Karen has/had one of the most beautiful voices but the ABBA version of this is the de facto standard.

The arrangement is weak compared to ABBA.

  • Isn't this ABBA who sang this originally ?

  • I must say the ABBA singers did this much better, but i love Karen.

  • The The Most Pristine and the ever beautiful Voice that ever graced the Show Biz. You will always live in all of our hearts Karen.

  • awesome! I love both Carpenters & ABBA

  • great always. love you

  • All my respect to you Karen-I love you.

  • We lost Karen way to early in life. But her music lives on forever........

  • ...for the rest of their lives... :(

  • Well i don't know about josh groban but karen is my all time favourite singer ever!!!

  • Thank YOU, Karen, for all of the beautiful music you gave to US. You'll never be forgotten; your music will live on forever.

Thank you, XqueenringX, for uploading this. Karen is my all-time favorite female singer, while Josh Groban is my all-time favorite male singer.

  • ang ganda talaga ng carpenters

  • thanks for your comment your probably right.

  • Yes this was an Abba song, and no one could do it better, but Karen did a great job and did not change a word, keeping "golden hair".. It is sad that her voice was lost too soon..but her voice will also live forever in songs like this.

  • I just can't look at skinny Karen :( She's got the best female voice ever, like often posted, but the abba version is - in my humble opinion - sung with more passion and feeling.

  • versione scandalosa.

  • Finally! Long have I waited this video to hit one million views. Hope more people will view this now. <3 Karen.

  • THE WHITE STRIPES AINT GOT NOTHING ON THE CARPENTERS

  • Voice like warm honey

  • She butchered this song, only an American can possibly appreciate this terrible rendition of an Abba classic,R.I.P anyway i did admire some of her other work, but she will be forgotten long before Abba.

  • @arfies Couldn't agree with you more!!!!!!

  • @TheSsmith64 Couldn't agree with you more. Although Karen had good voice their music was very dated and not of the time, considering to what the rest of the world was producing.

  • Applause from Brazil!

  • What a beautiful voice and beautiful girl. What a waste she had to die so young.

  • Scary Movie 9 Killing eyebrow.

    Agnetha Fältskog rules.

  • Come on!!! 8K more views till it hits the 1,000,000 views!!!!!

  • I am a huge ABBA fan, and I really love Agnetha Faltskog's and Anni-Frida's voices, but I have to say Karen's voice was better than either one of the ABBA girls. this is how I look at it, after years and years of close listening---Karen Carpenter's voice did the job of both Agnetha's and Frida's voices combined. On their own, Agnetha's voice and Frida's voice was nice, but they achieved a better sound when the two ABBA girls combined their voices. Karen's voice didn't need extra help.

  • Song starts at 0:40.

  • Karen had the voice of an angel but... When I first heard this song on a cassette years ago I thought it was cringeworthy. I thought they were so much better than this debacle. Richard has been quoted as saying he heard the song, liked it and they started work on it before deciding not to finish it off. Essentially he realised what he was doing was copying the song and that, as an arranger, was something he just didn't do.

  • I always wondered if The Carpenters and ABBA ever met. I know Olivia Newton John was a very good friend of Karen Carpenter, and that ABBA guest starred on Olivia's t.v. special in the late 70s (and were friends with Olivia too). I am guessing that Karen picked this song to sing because of the mutual association with ABBA by Olivia Newton John.

  • @mrshinyshoes Olivia Newton John and Abba's careers constantly crossed from the early years starting at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, which Abba won.

  • @thatsme1945 Yes, i know that, but did ABBA ever meet the Carpenters?

  • @mrshinyshoes Yes, the Carpenters met ABBA in Germany during "Starparade." That's where they heard ABBA do this song and liked it. Richard considered releasing it as a single (since ABBA wouldn't until the '80s) but decided not to since he didn't want to copy their version. Apparently the reason the band sounds under-rehearsed is because the Carpenters were a last-minute guest as a favor to host/friend John Davidson.

  • John Davidson hit the nail on the head when he said "The Carpenters gave us a new sound." They certainly did. It's wonderful to see Karen singing this ABBA song. The Carpenters and ABBA are my two favorite groups of all time.

  • This is 1978 , 5 years before Karen died. It beggars belief that no one seemed to care about her enough to notice her weight loss and get her help before her tragic end.

  • i was at the the first two abba concerts in sydney australia when abba performed this song on stage for the first time. it was a one of a kind experience. i think just as highly of the carpenters but why did karen choose to cover a song that was very much abba in 1978 just a year after abba produced it to perfection?

  • She and even Ric at 3:47 were off their usual best tempo with this song, only happens when doing a cover you haven't played enough. And I notice how her health must have been failing her, even to sing while walking and at her arm jives. Not her best day.So sad she was consumed so early, from the highest star fallen on this earth back to the angels choir from where she came. Her voice, music sensibility,as her borther's were one of a kind.

  • I love and adore Karen Carpenter and her wonderful voice, but damn, this song sux. Not even her angelic voice can save it. I am not dissing her, they can't ALL be hits. When you write music, some rises to the top and some falls to the bottom where it hopefully it stays. But her voice is still beautiful.

  • Did the Carpenters or ABBA compose the song ?

  • @mommygaga1

Bjorn Ulveaus, who was "the first B"

  • @mommygaga1 ABBA!

  • @mommygaga1 It was ABBA who composed this song.

  • @mommygaga1 This song was composed by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA.

  • Wonder why this video hasn't hit 1,000,000 views yet.

  • I just came back from putting a bouquet of daisies on the doorstep of her home in Downey. 28 years ago today she left us. It was a soul searching moment to stand in front of her home and be reminded of the pure talent that was and still is Karen Carpenter. You are missed.

  • 4th february 1983, the day we lost Karen Carpenter. Rest In Peace <3

  • @CarpentersFanForLife Abba did this song sooooo much better. The Carpenters packed the stage with musicians yet this performance sounds dull and empty compared to Abba. This is a long way off their best, I think Karen should have stuck to the drums.

  • thanks for your music karen 4 february rip

  • Was it worth it, Karen? :(

She was sooo incredible. God, why?...

    a voice of an angel

and one of the best songs ever

  • Most beautiful voice of all time and whoever disagrees with this is in total denial. Her voice quality and her interpretation of her songs are one of a kind and unmatched. Her low vocal range is extraordinary and she could hit some high notes beautifully. Has very good personality.

  • @grobanfan2 I totally agree; Karen has the best female voice. Maybe not octave range or hitting epic notes but has x factor; the voice of something cosmic.

  • @SuperBingo96 3 octaves doesn't count as a good range?

  • @marvelboy74 yes ur right. re-reading my comment it was rather stupid but u get what i'm trying to say yeah

  • @grobanfan2 i totally disagree. freddie mercury has the most beautiful voice of all times. you're in total denial child.

  • @grobanfan2 so true. her voice is so impressive. Always loved her voice.

  • @grobanfan2 i can't remember what we were arguing about but you are still in the wrong child.

  • Really and wholeheartedly, thank you for the song and music you gave to us.

  • Although Karen carpenter had a good voice the music was very middle of the road, not current of the scene in the seventies outside of America.

  • Comment removed

  • Although she is not among us anymore, Karen has the most beautiful voice of the world, and always will have. She always makes me love her when she starts to sing. Thank you for the music.
