  • @blacksalkonsungodzzz yes you're right and it's just simply the truth. It's there it's music history for generations to come and for us to learn where it comes from I'm a Mexican and I love the Negro Spirit-the DooWop Sound of those days.

  • My dad was in the first 8 soundies ever made at Radio City Music Hall.. he is still alive at 89... was playing first sax and clarinet in the Donahue Band and was only 17 or 18 years old.

  • @themaclady Hi there, and hope this email reaches you. Please allow me to introduce myself as a historian working on a definitive filmography of SOUNDIES. You say that your dad is in the Al Donahue band.... I would love to speak with him, if possible, and try nd establish a personnel for the band. I can be reached at

  • I love Duke Ellingtons music..it was his song East St louis Toodle oo and a picture of Lauren Bacall that got me started on all the love I have for these eras:D

  • Man; lets keep it Real.,, the Sound is based on BLACK MUSIC, ok if we didnt start this sound.,, hollywood whould not be able to swing?? take a look at HIP-HOP, everything you see is based on our BLACK MUSIC STYLE..,,like it or not, we are the trend setters !

  • Of coure you are! No-one doubts it, surely. Most jazz is black, all the greatest players -- Armstrong, Parker, Davis, Coltrane -- were black.

  • @blackfalconsungodzzz

You're right. No doubt about it people

  • just saw this last night. Great! Great! Great!

  • yeah there are legends,but i don't like Cab

Calloway he was talented no doubt but not my cup of tea.

  • I feel the same way about Michael Feinstein hosting this show - Like tea, he'd be Oolong.

  • Yvonne DeCarlo.. what a hottie!!

  • Cyd Charisse! Ay carrumba!!!

  • BBC TV did a series of programmes on 'The Soundies' a few years ago which introduced the existence of these American treasures to British fans. I don't know if the 'Panoram' mchine ever appeared in the UK but I remember watch a French made video jukebox in London in 1959 which featured color film of rockers like Vince Eager and possibly Eddie Cochran - maybe the latter was wishful thinking!

  • Jesus, Lawrence Welk looked creepy back then!

  • Great Sounds.. Thank you for posting!!
