Im sorry, I have respect for apple and i don't like to comment like this, but it sounded like the entire audience was trying to suck up the steve there.I mean, yeah its thin, but its still just a laptop
do i have to? you guys just rate negative on my comments because you love this laptop. Fact is it looks very breakable and im sure it is my opinion, not only that but this laptop is over rated good job Steve you made the thinnest laptop in the world but its pretty useless at least for what i do and yes i have a laptop.
sorry lol. i guess i just thought you said the macbook air IS breakable. maybe i am a 'fanboy' after all, protecting my mac products haha. still, even if it is useless for what you do, i'm sure apple knows what they're doing and that there's a market for this. from all the forums and the shortages in stores, it seems like the air is doing quite well. anyway, have a nice day :)
its actually faster than many "midrange" pc laptops at best buy which also have 1.6 ghz. But instead of Core 2 Duos, they have AMD turions. The Macbook air ialso has 2 gb of ram.
Incorrect, it's actually "more durable" than a MacBook. A MacBook is made from flexible plastic, while the Air is made from sturdy anodized aluminum. I have both and the Air is around 3 times stronger because of the material used and it's "seashell" design.
and it's Anodized, so it's FAR stronger than any Plastic based laptop. The MacBook Air is unbendable.
Anodized aluminum can be nearly as hard as diamond under the right anodizing process. Many modern buildings use anodized aluminum in places where the metal framework is exposed to the elements. Anodized aluminum is also a popular material for making high-end cookware. So, the MacBook Air is as strong as it gets.
im sorry mate, you just shot yourself in the foot:"you feel how durable it is", you cant "feel" how durable something is, ipods are always gonna be quite durable because of theyre dimensions, there just isnt enough depth in a mac book air to allow for a decent thickness of aluminium and the actuall computer.
your ignorance of materials is showing. the macbook air uses thick anodized aluminum, measuring around 4 times thicker than what is used on an iPod (classic) and about twice what is used on the MacBook Pro or previous PowerBooks. The bottom is carved out of a solid block anodized aluminum, so when you "feel" it, you can quickly tell it's a very sturdy object. Just curious, have you ever held a MacBook Air? If not, please keep your comments to yourself.
go on humor me, how thick is "thick". I reckon you need a thickness of about 3-5 mm for aluminium (anodised or not) to stand a chance compared to other laptops. And I have first hand experience of not being able to feel how sturdy something is, you can feel how dense something is, but you cant tell an items structure merely by touching it. For something that thin, I really think they could have splashed out on a more rigid material, such as a steel alloy, stainless probably.
A Lesson: The Universe is really just pure Energy, so with practice, when you "feel" something, you can tell its "energy level". The MacBook Air is thick,
No other laptop uses this thick of anodized aluminium which can be as strong as diamond.
No other material is this strong, this thin and can be used in a consumer product. You need to keep in mind Apple is a genius when it comes to materials, so once you touch, hold... the MBA, you'll clearly "feel" what I'm saying.
well you just lost all credibility. Unless in the last week or so serious technological advancement have been made, aluminium in any for cannot be as strong as diamond. I have bent 2mm thick anodised aluminium, with my hands (not easily ill give you), I know I could not do that to diamond (or snap it).
"No other material is this strong, this thin and can be used in a consumer product" - the IBM think pads use titanuim, which is lighter and stronger.
sure it can, google exactly for: anodized aluminum "hard as diamond" and look at the first link... egg on your face again :) Trust me, you don't know your metals nor processes. You can't bend the MacBook Air, it's more rigid than the ThinkPads by a large margin, you'll see what I'm talking about at a later date.
First, before you're gonna discuss wich metal/alloy is the "hardest" you've first have to define what you mean by "hard", did you mean the Scratch hardness, Indentation hardness, ... because it's different for some materials.
Secondly
Hardness (in any definition of it) doesn't say anything about the ability to bend! The yield stress does!
It's you who doesn't anything about this, your embarassing yourself.

There's no built-in Ethernet port This means you can't(apparently) network-boot unless you purchase the S$48 (US$31.58) USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Finally, you can't upgrade the MacBook Air's RAM (you're stuck with 2GB, the default) and there is no audio input port, though a built-in microphone is included.

no its made out of aluminum...or atleast its shell is aluminum. its actually pretty durable, from what i've heard.
i was thinking the same thing when i got my ipod touch, but its actually really durable.. you have to hold it, to feel how durable it is.
negron115 4 years ago 2
Of course its not a durable as a normal mac book, but life is full of sacrifices. You would get this if you wanted a thin laptop, not a durable one.
etone08 4 years ago
truth.

actually, it's MORE durable than the plastic MacBook. it's built like a tank.
