Who are "they"? I'm an American and I don't want to destroy islam. If we wanted to destroy Islam we would have bombed Mecca and Medina. We would have banned islam in America. We would have made sure NO shariat is in the Iraqi legal system. That, however, did not happen.
Today the Iraqi legal system is heavily influenced by the Shariat, possibly even more-so then under Saddam. We are also trying to get out of Iraq by 2012, but Al-Qaeda attacks are not helping us do that.

Article 2 in the Iraqi Constitution says:
"No law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established."
Article 89 in the Iraqi constitution provides provisions for experts in Islamic jurisprudence in the Federal Supreme Court.
This shows Iraqi law today being VERY much influenced by the Shariat.

I agree that the Iraq War was mainly a war for oil. I believe Iraqis had the right to resist occupation. However, like it or not, they have to sell oil to somebody. The invasion was to insure that America had a secure source of oil. Iraq still gets the money from the oil and will not be in debt to anybody unlike the United States. The Wahhabi movement was not started by the British. Today it is one of the most powerful Sunni ideologies along with Salafis, Qutbists, and Deobandis.

I say the above because I've never heard any Salafi Shyakh write any detailed plan on how a Muslim state can still be a modern one co-existing in a globalized economy. Plus there are many reports which suggest, the treasuries themselves dont have the gold reserves/resources to back up the amount of paper money printed. Yes, I know it is haraam, but it is the core of global economics. If you want to start a company and need financing because you have no money, then you need a bank to assist. It is the ABUSE of interest that preys by credit card companies and banks that prey upon the poor. There are creative Islamic lending institutions however that look interesting and can work well for small scale lending. However it is hard to employ people without making a small profit by charging a fee for its services.

there is also the issue of IMF loans which cause the less economically developed countries as slaves to the west. In Islamic societys there are institutions/ groups which can lend you money at 0%. Even gold and silver, like money, is based upon the value that humans put into that gold and silver. It really is not that much different then money other then being more difficult to find and produce. Thus its value is more stable as long as humans put faith in it. Economics is almost like religion. Faith in Gold or Allah? Islam clearly says faith in Allah is the only faith, with economics being mainly for the good of the Ummah if done fairly and justly. thats true but gold and silver is generally more stable because of its rareity, paper money is based upon gold reserves, but the paper itself is like a reciept thats why it says on the note, 'I promise to pay the bearer...'. But whats worrying is they dont actually have our money, the numbers dont represent the true capital, and eveidence of this is northern rock, in which they lent more money than they had and because nobody could pay it back, it resulted in some very angry people....

I agree. The U.S. left the Gold Standard a long time ago. The U.S. Dollar is purely faith-based. Ironic isn't it? Still, the fact of the matter is how do you convince all Muslims to abandon modern life that is dependent on this global faith based economy? We can only blame ourselves for this lazy attitude to providing alternatives. If only we had the same zeal we had when intoducing a substitute for halal chicken and meat for muslims living in the west. Which initself was no where near as important as the issue of interest based systems. As for killing, lol that is definately not the way forward in this matter

Finally, yes, it is completely understandable why ANYONE would fight someone who killed a family member. However, if it is accidental, the father can ask for blood money instead of revenge in Shariat law. Also you can't expect a country to become Muslim overnight. Actually yes. I saw on many American news sources the carnage from American bombs. The Obama administration is trying to decrease civilian deaths by changing the rules used for calling in bombing (which were not being followed before). But its difficult when the Taliban position themselves in populated areas and do not always evacuate villages. Even in house-to-house infantry fighting, civilians will die from stray bullets and grenades if they are not evacuated before a battle.
