Her voice was never technically the "best" but I enjoy listening to her as much or more than any other opera singer - and isn't that what it's really about? The joy of listening to beautiful music?
Marìa, eterna, divina, TU VOZ ES UN MILAGRO.
Actually you are right about the C in this posting. It is definitely sharp.
However, I have this recording at home and I just played it because I couldn't remember her being out of tune anywhere... much less with such an exposed note.
Well, I honestly tell you she ISN'T! The tone is warmer than in this posting and as on pitch as any C has ever been...
you're right, this was replayed on faulty equipment. changed keys (really sharp) just before the c and they fluttered arround before coming back to the original key. in spite of the worst technique in the history of the universe i still love callas in every thing. what expresion! what drama! caballe is as close to angelic as you can get, too.
I agree. I adore all great singers. There is not one singer out there that I would not hear with respect.
Caballe is definitely one of the few at the top of my list. Her glory was the impeccable drive of the breath, even sacrificing words on the way, often not hesitating to completely omit "uncomfortable" consonants.
That would never be the case with Callas. She lived every word and nuance in the text and music. For Callas "angelic" was not the objective, but only a means to achieve a "whole".
The worst technique of the world?LOL.You can't sing Lady Macbeth and Medea without a great technique.Just listen to her legato no other singer had such a legato line without blurring consonants
(Caballe,Sutherland) or singing all notes portamento(Tebaldi) this requires a great technique don't you think so?
This is Callas second (and last) outing of Aida in her Mexico City period (when she also interpolated a high E flat in the triumphal scene, as she had done the year before). This is a great performance. Amazingly, during these two years she also treated the Mexican public to Norma, Rigoletto, I puritani, La traviata, Tosca, and Il trovatore. Brava!
Yes, my grandpaqrents had the luck of been in all of those performances. My gran pa told me that any other soprano was just insignificant next to Callas, all of them had there own thing, but nome had it all, like Callas did.
They heard all the top sopranos. As i said, every soprano had there thing, but Callas was the only Assoluta they heard, especially since she was the only one that could "sing the acting". They told me: "We love opera, we go to see all the singers and hear them and decide if they are good or not for us, if we like them we go and see them sing again and if we don't we never pay to see them again".
WITH WHOM SHE SANG AIDA IN MEXICO WHEN INTERPOLATING A HIGH E FLAT IN AIDA? BAUM OR MONACO? OR IN BOTH PRESENTATIONS???

recording quality may effect our judgement
Maybe the voice is the best but recording quality distort some of the voice

actually she is technically perfect here and only Leontyne Price can technically match this kind of singing in this particular aria.

Pido disculpas, no quería ofenderte. También me encanta Renata Tebaldi, pero prefiero no compararlo con Callas, las dos son maravillosas.

I believe that Aida wasn't a role for Callas' voice. The high C is out of tone up
