Sad Elephant at PA Renaissance Faire October 17 2010

I'm (ironically) glad to see this video. I visited the Pennsylvania Ren faire on 8/2/11 and was saddened by the poor environment/treatment of the falcons and the elephant. Those who say that this film shows NO welfare abuses are horribly mistaken. I was horrified to see the handler carrying a bull hook the entire 8 -10 hours that this poor animal worked without breaks. A BULL HOOK? I mean come on...you are all idiots if you don't think that animal isnt beaten to be controlled.

It is a sad fact that animals are abused. And rowinmorrison has every right to be concerned. But id have to agree with tjnadrie and say the home movie does not show that this animal is being abused in any way. I'm sure it gets constant vet visits. And if there where abuse i'm sure the vet would call the authorities. Lets not jump to conclusions people.

And you never answered my question what about horses??? They give rides all day. Or dogs on leashes? LOL Id like you to go to the greyhound rescue stand at the faire and tell them they cant be on a leash because its restricting the dog.....they would cuss you out chick. LOL

lol Oh by the way. i was just wondering how you felt about the Horses in the joust? Are they chained up and mistreated also? You seem to know how animals feel so i was just wondering if you had a chance to talk to them or not.

@tjnadrie I have studied elephants and understand their needs, which can never be met when being used as a side show at a fair. I realize that you see them as ways to make money, so we'll never agree on many things. But I suggest if you plan to make your living off animals who have no choice, you at least learn their gender and their basic needs. You clearlhy are very confused about both.

And the problem is that you already came to the conclusion that she's chained up and kept in a small pen and mistreated. @tjnadrie are you claiming that this elephant was NOT chained up or kept in a small pen at night? Where did she spend the night - free roaming? Better check up on YOUR facts before claiming others don't know what they're talking about.

And, no need to resort to insults when confronted with the facts. Please calm down, take a deep breath, and read up on the needs of elephants. I guarantee that you will agree that "Lady Wrinkles" deserves better than life as an amusement park ride.

@rowanmorrison no shes not chained up and she is NOT kept in a small pen. thats a fact. And just because she is not free roaming doesn't mean she is abused. that's absurd. Its just like saying a dog on a leash is abused because the leash restricts the dog. What i say are facts and yours are speculation based on your agenda.

The fact is that Lady Wrinkles is kept chained or in a small pen at night. Keeping a social, roaming elephant confined and forced to give rides day after day IS abuse, no matter how may times you say "loved" and "healthy."

Sad Elephant??? You know nothing about this elephant. This elephant is treated better then most house dogs. I know because his name is Wrinkles and i have worked with him. The only sad animal that was at the Pa Ren Faire that day was YOU. So dont speak up for animals you know nothing about.

@tjnadrie If you worked with "him," you don't know much about elephants at all, because this is an elephant cow - a female.

You also don't know a thing about elephants' needs. For elephants, family is everything. This elephant was separated from her famliy at a young age to be put to work in the entertainment industry. She is kept alone, which is extremely stressful for elephants, and dominated with bullhooks. So yes, seeing this elephant in such a state made me very, very sad.
