  • This section is from the "Best of Ernie and Bert" video that was out in the 1990's. Gina, Big Bird, and Ernestine were looking at a photo album of Ernie and Bert.

  • This is one of the better Ernie songs. It kind of makes you sad, but it is peaceful. It is kind of like a lullaby.

  • I think I cried after this sone when I was young.. and yesterday.

  • @berserk539 I worked at Sesame Place and heared this song 3 times a day, and I would tear up everytime i hear this one, and just one person and one small voice. There are so many beautiful songs in the muppet world

  • who can dislike this?

  • This is my childhood right here

  • i miss you sesame street!

  • this song always came in my mind when i was in 4th grade, it brought tears to my eyes... ='(

  • I remember seeing this as a kid. For 13 I still want to see it on PBS. It doesn't come on anymore. I miss this and this made me cry. RIP Jim Henson 1936-1990 :(

  • This song is so beautiful and powerful. It brings back so many wonderful memories. I sang it as a lullaby once to my little baby cousin and he loved it. Now he wants to learn the song. I cried remembering how I wanted to learn the song but also remembering that Jim Henson is gone. He may be gone, but he's still here in heart, soul, and spirit. Jim Henson, me and millions of others still miss you dearly and we will never forget the gifts you've given us. REST IN PEACE JIM HENSON!!! :'(

  • Still makes me cry and I'm 29

  • gets me thinking

  • this song spoke to me when i was little...ernie:"i would like to visit the moon; but i dont think i'd like to live there" me:"ME TOO, i want to visit the moon but not live there cuz i'll be alone"

  • I generally do not like when characters singing. But,many songs from Ernie and / or Bert make me cry. Songs like, "But I Like You," Things That I Remember"," I Wish I Had a Friend to Play With Me","" I Don't Want to Live on the Moon"..

I remember I always imagined myself going to other places and living there,I always thought that any other place would be better than my house. But Ernie was more intelligent, he knew it would be nice to visit these places, but would not live.

  • @nickk4283 Or he may just be YET another closeted homosexual Republican. But I'm pretty sure he's a felt covered foam puppet.

  • Its ok ernie you, and Jim, went home!

  • Aw, my mom would sing this to me at night when I was little!

  • I am crying. Nothing makes me cry except this!

  • Is Ernie a democrat or republican?

  • @Leatherbubba i think he's a Republicrat

  • This song has always made me cry a little.

  • I just love this song! Brings tears to my eyes! Sesame Street is so old! & I'm so happy it's still on television,I'm only 15& this song just reminds me of when I was young!

  • so beautiful

  • i am 38 years old and when i hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. Jim henson you will be missed and loved.

  • My parents used to sing this to me before bed. Before a lot of stuff happened. This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I just want to hear this song every time I'm about to go to bed...and I think I'll start doing that now.

  • to the 9 dislikes: how do you sleep at night?

  • I'm a 35-year-old man and I have to admit it, this video STILL brings tears to my eyes every time. It's for a lot of reasons... it time-warps me to childhood, it makes me miss the genius that was Jim Henson, and I appreciate the underlying message of the song. Kids can think the song's about visiting the moon and that's fine, but adults know what's up. We often get caught up in what we THINK we want to do, not realizing the important thing is to be with the people we love.

  • I loved this as a child and i am almost 30 years old ( GASP) where did the CLASSIC Sesame Street go? Now days it teaches NOTHING and sucks

  • OMG, i LOVE this. i'm 18 now. and i use to watch this 24/7. the new sesame street isnt the same, i love the original ones and the ones they had when i was a kid. this song is so deep. when i listen to it, i feel at peace. and i downloaded this to my ipod.

now that i think about it, i makes me realize that i'm not a kid anymore. wow its funny how time flies.

  • My son loves this song and it calms him down if he's having a meltdown.

  • Life is so simple back then. It's was simplicity that all of us missed, and Jim Henson's creations make us remember. Thanks Jim.

  • This song makes me teary eyed...I sometimes miss the innocence of childhood.

  • It seems that 9 people missed the like button

  • His arms are longer than his dang legs!:P LOL

  • this song sounds amazing with one voice and a guitar. a staff member used to play it in wilderness. best homesick song ever

  • 9 people missed the like button.

    ...

I wish there was a "love" button.

  • I would love to visit the moon, but never live there. A friend asked me if a meteor was going to crash into the Earth, would I stay. I told him that if my family was going, then I would go with them, but if they weren't, I'd stay and die where I stood.

  • my mom would look at my baby brother and cry when she heard this song bcuz she had postpartum depression lol shes crying now and hes 11 years old!

  • This is cleary a femenist song.

  • @Leatherbubba

    Haha what

  • @Leatherbubba how? and please learn to spell.

  • @auntbecky Fuck you.

  • Beautiful song!

  • This is SOOO beautiful. I sometimes have to hold back a tear when I listen to it

  • Truly magical. Sesame has such great memories, I don't know why they don't rerun them.

To fans of this, I highly recommend "One Little Star" from the 1985 Sesame Street movie, "Follow That Bird".

  • I'm tearing up as I type this comment...>__<

It's a nice thing when no matter where you go, in the end you always have the same home to come back to. I've lived in the same old house and slept in the same little bedroom for almost 20 years now and my family is going to move soon...when that day comes I'll never be able to come back to this house again...

  • always made me cry as a child

  • I almost cried! Ernie is so adorable!

  • Ernie hits some of the real heartwarming moments at night. :) That's why we love him.

  • @battybuddy

Yeah, Ernie was always the more imaginative and abstract thinker. Remember how bored he was with Bert rhapsodizing about his bottle cap collection?

  • One of the best "Sesame" songs of all, and probably *the* best non-Raposo one.

  • fav song from sesame street

  • It's dreamy and melancholy and it kind of makes me emotional. ^_^ I loved Sesame Street as a child and I've realized that as an adult I still do.

  • Ernie can't sing but he is freakin' cute though!! :)

  • I remember watching Sesame Street with my son, Van, when he was 3 or 4 years old, and we saw Ernie sing this song. Van always loved this song. Today Van is 29 years old, and I recorded him singing it. I have posted it as a Video response. It's a wonderful song, and brings back such sweet memories.

  • Maybe, it's certainly one of the more melancholy SS songs

  • im making a CD for my son to make so he can sleep. This song is going on it and so is i think it is wonderful and moon shines

  • This song always made me cry, for as long as I can remember (I'm 25).

Not this time, for some reason. Perhaps I'm just not in the mood.

  • I have this on cassette, always made me feel quite melancholy as a child, and it still does today. Never thought I'd be able to go on the internet and hear it whenever I please. Makes me a happy guy...

  • I have made love to this song.

    I'm not even kidding.

  • I can't believe I never heard this when I was a child... or if I did, I somehow don't recall it at all.

This made me cry. And I'm a grown woman.

  • My mom used to sing me this lullaby when I was only two now I sing it to my baby cousin! He loves it! I can't wait to pass this song onto my own children! Thank you, Jim Henson! Your genius work will never be forgotten!!!

  • Dear Jim Henson, This world needs you more than ever, right now. Please come back. We miss you so much it hurts.

This video totally made me cry. I remember this and it was great to see it again-but damn. It kinda hurt to..

  • So true, DVDSKY81. The world went downhill when vintage Sesame Street went away.

  • @dvdsky81 i hope you relize that jim henson die in 1990

  • @littlemac2929 did you not read my post....Of course I know he died...that was the point of my post...What? Im one of the biggest Henson fans you'd ever meet....I know he's dead, unfortunately, but thanks for the update ;) ..re-read my post and you can tell that I know..lol.

  • @dvdsky81 I'm afraid that Jim Henson will never come back.

  • i love this, back when sesame street wasn't ELMO street....ahhh the good ol days

  • oh my goodness!!!

i danced to this song for my ballet class when i was 7...

im 16 now, and havent heard the song in soooo long... until now!! :D

  • who is that guy singing with him

  • this just came on tv and I was trying to find the singer lol

  • I really like this song since my childhood.

The part where (2:12) Ernie, says, "Although I may be going, I will be coming home soon."

My mom said the same thing in hospital before she passed away. :'(

  • :[..............

  • Where's Bert? lol

  • wow

  • is this a joe raposo song?

  • This is what I thought from 1:00 to 1:30:

How on Earth did they do that?

  • uh... a tank of bubbles in front of the camera?

    youre joking right?

  • You know, you could have said that in a friendlier way, and I am NOT stupid, it's just that since the scenery is not black, how are they hiding the person/people andling Ernie.

And besides all that, how do we know that YOU are right?

  • This is beautiful. It made me cry the first time I saw it!

  • this song makes me wonder why i ever wanted to grow up...

  • One of my favorite sesame street songs from my childhood

  • i can't listen to this with out crying a little

  • i know :( makes me wanna be a kid again

  • I just saw this and I didn't cry at ALL.

  • one of my favorite's from my childhood.. now my daughter is watching and she's 1 and a half.

  • Jim Henson was a great man who worked for, and started, SS from 1969 till 1990 when he passed away. He was the man who originally performed ernie and kermit. He also started the Muppet show around the 70's.

  • he was a genius1

  • missing aaron neville to make it a special song

  • The funny thing is, it's not really a sad song, when you listen to the lyrics. But there's something wistful about it that tugs at the heartstrings...
