Let me tell you all - this entire episode is so strong. It has spirit. THIS is the spirit of entrepreneur which causes you to overlook the pains of the day to seize the opportunities of tomorrow. This episode is dripping, overflowing, and gushing with excellence. I will not be that safe man that you guys saw. I will risk as an entrepreneur and I will refer to this in the future!
Discord: The Twilight you could have been, the one who did not pass the exam had quite a different life than the one you remember. That Twilight never earned a cutie mark, never got past her own limitations, never realized her true power or how important friendship was. So her life never came into focus. She drifted through much of her life, with no social interaction, going from one book to the next, never becoming a better pony. She learned to do things by herself & she never ever had friends
Discord (Q): I gave a second chance at life , Twilight Sparkle! You wanted to see what life would've been like hadn't lived in Ponyville....and now ALL you can do...is complain?
Twilight: That's not how I want to live, Discord! That young pony was bereft of magic....and FRIENDSHIP!!
It shows how the relationshipbetween Q and picard developed. Q who originally was suppose to judge humanity based off of Picard learned humanity so much that he was even able to teach picard. THe two actors are fantastic together.
Anyone know somewhere i can stream this for free? See, ponies made me interested in looking up q... and now q has made me interested in watching star trek... but not enough to DL a whole season ( let alone PAY for it). Thanks :)
@ReyaitheShadowWolf I Remember watching this Episode very well. I was staying at my Relatives house nea rWashington DC. Iwas job Hunting. Itwas a Saturday Early evening. It was a cold and clear Night out. How time does Move on doesn't it....
Liked this ep if u could go back and change things. a dreary job or a Great job with all the bells n whistles girl friends vacaction ect . Who was the young women cadet ? did she ever make it big? Don't be be a Pansy say what you want n do what u want. But don't get to crazy. Give people some what respect but don't be pushed around. ur adult .
Whenever the Enterprise gets destroyed/gets its ass kicked, I always feel bad for the non-com pussies that you rarely see on the show that signed on to study botany or tend bar or whatever.
This reminds me of something... "Risk - risk is our business. That's what building this starship was all about. That's why we're aboard her." ~ James Tiberius Kirk
@crazy4sian: Seconded. “In this economy” is the lamest excuse ever heard. It’s funny how the people think we would be in bad times right now, even though companies post record profits. The reason it’s bad for them, is BECAUSE the money went to the record profit makers. Which is BECAUSE they didn’t risk anything and didn’t fight for things.
@steveconn The strange thing is that The Next Generation preached about 24 century life being near utopian and how everyone has value, yet Picard's life as Lt. Jr Grade is seen as a "dreary man in a tedious job". Despite everything, Lt. Picard still got posted to the Enterprise, the show seemed to stress on many occasions that only the best of the best got to serve on the Enterprise. The Enterprise was like the Harvard or West Point of Starfleet.
@gothatway09 It's not so much about the job as what he wanted to do with his life. That simply wasn't the life Picard wanted. But there are plenty of people who would be happy with that kind of life.
O'Brien for example, is perfectly happy with living a much more "normal" life. He's fine being an engineer and has no desire to be a captain or command his own starship.
In fact, if Picard had instead became an admiral at a desk job, he might have felt the same way.
in first contact picard says that humans evolved and now did not need money as an incentive to work, but simply working to improve oneself and to gain knowledge. This explanation is understandable for guys like picard, but i always thought about if this noble motivation also holds for the odinary guy, who has to do routine assignments all day. As we see here picards evolved personality is also not capable to motivate for such a job...economy in star trek is ridiculous.
@steveconn Most of the 99 percent are the 99 percent because they're boring people with no passion and no imagination, just like Picard says here. The tragedy is when someone who does have amazing potential fails to meet it, not when someone with low potential lives a regular life. Extraordinary people are part of "real life" too, and you just sound jealous.
@XxHyoga87xX Because when we get past the age of, oh, I don't know, eight, we realize the world isn't made of pixey dust and unicorns and just make the best of what we're given.
@steveconn Look I aint sayin you gotta be a big baller or live in a fanstasy land. I'm sayin if you have a place around the world you always wanted to go. No matter what your situation is you should at least TRY to go there. Or if you have interest in something you study see how far you can take it.
@steveconn sry but it didn't. It sounded like you said you should just accept what ever life your stuck in and deal wit it. No hope for change or anything.
The whole thing brings a tear to my eye. Picard knows from experience that starting that fight is the stupidest thing he could possibly do. And now he also knows from experience that that's what needs to happen.
Most people can relate to the second life Picard is living - tedious and without direction. It takes courage and effort to break away from it, often with sacrifice.
Most people live this way and it's upsetting when I think about it. So many dreary lives.
i started with pony's and end with this...
