Are they still going to do public excursions with steam? The OC has a lot of track, it would be a perfect place to run long distance steam excursions without bothering class 1's like NS and CSX who don't like to host steam excursions anymore pulling 1920's/30's friction bearing coaches. Is this the largest steam collection outside of Steamtown, Scranton, PA? I live between Philly and Scranton in Allentown, PA and got to Steamtown a few times.
Well not in the next two or three years because the owner of the steam locomotives has retired so it is still up in the air if Ohio Central Steam will even run in 09. I hope so because i would love to go back to Byesville.
The 1293 will be heading back to Byesville in October and there's a very good chance she'll make a return to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic as well. There may be additional trips too, but we'll see about that.
They let you drive! I thought it was aginst FRA rules. but what do they know lol. When i was at a museum in Indiana where I live the let me blow the whistle on a tank engine! :) i liked it!
Well Jerry Jacobson, the owner of 1293, was kind enough to let me drive for a bit. I also learned a month later how to fire and maintain this locomotive.
He owns that huge locomotive? cool! Firing is a pain because of maintaining an even level of coal and than watching the boiler water level and pressure level.
Yeah it is not his biggest engine though. He also owns GTW 6325. It is not running right now but it is huge. He just bought a NKP 2-8-4 #763 and it seems bigger than the 6325.
Yes he owned and operated the Ohio Central Railway System for many years. Rumor has it he is not owner now because of his health. He made a shit load of money and he is now going to spend it on his steamers.
I thought 6325 was in service. or did it have mechanical issues? I hope he fixes all of them and than does a 4 header. i didnt know what word to use lol.
Well it was running but the barrings keep overheating. There were also other little things but that is the main reason it is not running. Well i hope he gets the 763 done and maybe take it up to the train festival next year.
If he gets it operational it will probably happen. a doubleheader is scheduled with 765 and 1225 for the spring of '09 or ther're both going to be running at the same time adn place im not sure which.
6325 "officially" went out of service August 1st, 2004 during the TrainFestival in Dennison. She's been out since then and supposed to get repaired once 763 is done. And it'll be awhile since they're calling for 763's restoration to be done sometime in the next 3-4 years.

well i looked at byesville's site and it doesn't say if 1293 is going down or not. it just says they will have a steam engine. might be 33.
traindude666 3 years ago
Most likely it will be 1293, wouldn't be surprised if they fear 33 might beat up the Byesville tracks.

true but it would be better for speed and control as Tim and Scott said last year

He owns well-known engines! He has a berkshire! cool! Is he rich? has to be to obtain those.

Good thing to spend it on. :)

Hell yes. And i also hear he might return 6325 back to service and maybe 1278, 1293's sister.

oh i see. in a year? most places take years too restre their steamers, but like you said money isn't an object.
thetrainking 3 years ago
Well he has had 763 for a year now so i really don't know how far they have gotten. I hope to see her run with 765 and 1225
traindude666 3 years ago
A Berkshire tripple header. now that would be cool!
thetrainking 3 years ago
yeah that is what i thought. Well most likely it will just be a dream.

right but we won't know because Ohio Central is really bad about posting stuff and events on any site.
traindude666 3 years ago
oh. they need a internet communication person to keep thing up to date.
thetrainking 3 years ago
yes but they won't do it plus a lot of it is they like to surprise people.
traindude666 3 years ago
