  • This is how the world is, but on class grounds, justified by the idea of different ability as innate, this film was just saying that the idea of genetic differences of ability is a new justification for what is an effect of social organisation realised via such ideas. Reality is as this film portrays it but the rich buy credentials that prove their merit. Remember the Wizard of Oz where the Scarecrow wants a brain and they give him a certificate.

  • Please, does anyone know where's the building where Vincent drops the hair from Irene??

    I'd love to draw it!

  • I loved the movie the first time I saw it, but always wondered why Vincent's parents didn't get him a heart operation/transplant? If he had a 99% chance of having a heart condition, surgery or a transplant seems like a logical solution. Of course they might not have had the money, but they looked like they lived pretty well, so someone should've had insurance to cover it. Of course then there would be no inspiring story... :)

  • Jude law was amazing in this!

  • The Exchange Between Vincent and Anton at GATTACA is one of the most powerful scenes...that and Jerome and Vincents scenes were phenomenal, although, the whole movie is masterful really...

  • definetly in my personal top10 fav movies.

    big big movie

  • I love this movie!

  • you forgot my personal favorite line that goes to something like "you work so hard to get away from a place, but when you finally get a chance to leave, you find a reason to stay"

  • about human beings and their essence, which is to achieve their dreams no matter what, even if they seem unreachable: it is we who decide what we can or what we can't do. Maybe Gattaca hasn't touched everyone, but I'm sure it has changed some lives.

  • I remember when I bought the movie a few years ago, it was completely random but I felt attracted by it, though the jacket was not particularly beautiful, and though I hadn't even read what the story was about. I watched it as soon as I came home and... there is not a single word to describe how I felt at the end, my face was all covered in tears. Gattaca is not only a movie, it is a poem about life and its beauties, -

  • @Quyhm Well said. Even over the years, still remained as my favorite movie of all time, which somewhat compelled me to make this video. Just glad people have an appreciation of this movie as I do.

  • There's no gene for the human spirit.

  • If he never saved anything for the swim back, how did he swim back?

And if Anton was saving something for the swim back, how come he couldn't?

  • @FlentOrbix1138 idiot! he uses that phrase symbolically.

  • @ahmettopacoglu45hotm I understand the symbolism, but I'm just wondering how the genetically-modified-to-perfection brother couldn't beat his imperfect brother.

  • @FlentOrbix1138 because my friend, life and human staff don't consist only of maths. there are things in the world stronger than physical advantages. if you do some research about history, you'll see what I mean. to be more specific just look into the war history. there are many wars that ended in favour of the (seemingly) weaker side. it's this inspirational theme that make people follow their hopes I guess, at least for me ;)

  • I never saved anything for the swim back

  • "Im bored of talking with you, goodbye."

    ... or something.

  • Great movie, I'm curious if 2011's "In time" can reach it, as the subject seems to be quite similar.

  • You dont want to miss your flight Vincent.

  • That doctor was a perv.

  • Gattaca, The Matrix,

  • “I don’t know how to thank you.”

“No, no… I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body. You lent me your dream.”

  • “We have to ensure that people are meeting their potential.”

    “Not exceeding it?”

    “No one exceeds its potential.”

    “And if he did?”

“It’d simply mean that we did not accurately gauge his potential in the first place.”

  • "You dreaming of Space?! You can start by cleaning this space right here!"

  • GREAT INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE OF ALL TIME GATTACA

  • GREAT INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE OF ALL TIME GATTACA

  • GREAT INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE OF ALL TIME GATTACA

  • This movie tells so much about life in 106 minutes

  • "You're a God Child?"

  • The movie Gattaca inspires me in so many ways...

  • watched this when i was ten and fell asleep. six years later i watched this again, it became my favorite eventually.

  • Jerome: If at first you don't succeed... try, try again.

  • Anton : Vincent! How are you doing this Vincent? How have you done any of this? We have to go back.

Vincent: It's too late for that. We're closer to the other side.

  • Besides, the color doesn't match.

    - He's right.My eyes are prettier.

    :D

  • The ending makes me sad, it was so deep. Too bad this movie is so underrated :(

  • "Maybe I'm not leaving, Maybe I'm going home." -grasps heart, tear-

  • 0:31

best quote for me. ik how it feels :/

  • Comment removed

  • "A year's a long time."

"Not so long, just once around the Sun."

  • WHATZ UR NUMBA!!!

  • @TheChickenapple hahah good quote. I remember Jerome getting out of that squeeze with that line.

  • @MrRo330 yeah, this is an under-rated movie. It is a smart movie made in a nation of people who are either ignorant or just plain stupid.

  • Не се опитвам да заема ничие място или да се правя на това което не съм.

  • Does anyone know why Jerome gave Vincent his hair in that little envelope? It's got me confused.

  • @maximumridelife4me i'm guessing its a reminder of him, that or incase he needs jerome's dna he has it

  • @maximumridelife4me

For memorable reasons I guess, in contrast to the motif of single stands of hair throughout the movie (in relation to one's DNA profile), this one is a keepsake for Jerome/Vincent and the whole 'dream' they shared in those years.

  • Best line: "There's more vodka in this piss than there is piss!"

  • I watched this movie in biology the other day, it is the only movie I watched in school that I really love.

  • @TheMisplacedBeaver Lol, I saw it in Bio too but years ago.

  • I seriously think this movie needs to get best art direction even though it's over 10 years old. :/

  • the music really supports the emotional lines at some parts. Like "I was never more certain how far away I was from my goal when I was standing right beside it."

  • I feel like Ernest Borgnine had an incredibly powerful role in this movie and I can hardly explain why. One of the best movies ever.

  • I love the last line of the best.

  • I can't watch the ending of this movie without crying. It's an amazing movie in so many ways and I don't care how many times I see it,I watch it with the same enthusiasm I had the first time I saw it.

  • This movie is kinda spiritual like at the ending not just sientifical

  • Anyone mind telling me what the Utopia and Dystopia in this movie is?

  • @KesselPhaneuf813 the dystopia in this movie: doing your homework yourself.

  • @KesselPhaneuf813

    Dystopia: The genetic discrimination.

Utopia: Humans are colonising (or at least visiting) Titan, electric cars, the elimination of genetic diseases and the Human genome is so well understood you can get a genetic 'score'.

  • Well said, Fln4121. Can't get anywhere without it.

  • Sucha well thought out movie with a good premise and good acting too.

  • i find certain things more moving than other people i dont think there any one else that nearlyy lost my self when he said "your going to miss your flight Vincent" iunno its just perfect to me, kinds for personal reason of always feeling people wont ever trust i can do or achieve any thing, without me batteling for it every step just knowing some one else believes in what you can do no matter what every one else says, iunno just the only other time i almost lost it more was in schindlers list

  • @nohj1000000 Interesting. I can definitely relate, so much that I'd have to say that anyone who has the ability to appreciate good art doesn't just so for the things which revolve around it; the underlying components, including (especially) what it takes to make those components a reality.

  • You are the authority of what is not real, aren't you Irene

  • "For future reference: right handed men don't hold it with their left. Just one of those things." There will never be a better line of dialogue than that.

  • Gattaca and Bladrunner seem to get more recognized as time goes by which is a testament that story and vision are the true qualities of a great Sci-Fi movie.

  • I had watched this movie this year at school for English. I said this is the best movie since Bladerunner

  • @joe9320 :D same, cept I've never seen Bladerunner.

  • @Jem93rocks Bladerunner is well worth watching, it and Gattaca both have great soundtracks, amongst other things.

  • Jerome is freaking hilarious lol I love it when the investigator and him were at the parking lot and the investigator was looking at him weird cause he's crippled. And he was like "I'm not crippled! I just got done exercising! What's your number?! -follows him- WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER?!" He said something like that haha

  • I'm right handed. I hold it with my left.

  • @devourerofbabies hahaa me 2.

  • One of the best Sci-fi movies I have ever seen. I wouldn't mind seeing Gattaca a second time, or a third time. I'm glad that there wasn't a second Gattaca, or a third, because some of the best movies are left alone. The morals of this movie is hidden between these "Memorable Lines".

  • @WolvesDreamLight

Can you recomend me some movies like Gattaca?

  • @cypselusbg

I honestly don't know of any similar movies to Gattaca. 'tis why I think this movie is unique in it's own way. :)

  • one of my favorit movies but was there any blue skyies

  • "There's more vodka in this piss than there is piss!" or something like that. That is a line I love, lol. XD

  • Dude, you left out one of the best lines, and it would have been in there if you had just let the "legs wouldn't matter" clip go another 5 seconds. "I'm afraid of heights"

I'd say that's the second-best line in the whole movie!

  • This is easily my favorite movie.

  • @MrLawrenceV hahaha ill try it sometime

  • 2:21 - I used to use that quote on my teachers in middle and high school all the time.

  • That last line wow...really gets to me

  • Best line: "keep your eyelashes on your eyelids where they belong."

  • easier for you to see me through the glass when I'm on the other side...classic

  • In my opinion, the best lines in the film all come from Jerome;

"I'm bored of talking to you, no I'm bored. I'll call you back."

    "We must get drunk immediately."

    "Your signature needs work!"

  • Great thanx

  • This movie changed my life. Don't let anyone keep you from your dreams, and don't save anything for the swim back.

  • "So... What's Titan this time of year?" -"They found my eyelash." -"Where?" -"In the corridor." -"Oh, but that could be worse: they could have found it in your eye." "Two samples, two days. Either the suspect went back to the scene of the crime to get a drink of water -but I don't know anybody that thirsty- or he still works there." -"What was he like? -"Who, the cop?" -"Yeah." -"He was just a cop." -"Did you get his name?" -"Actually MY name was the topic of conversation."
  • This movie is a masterpiece!! It's beautiful and heartbreaking...

    Other great quotes:

"Ten fingers, ten toes. That's all that used to matter. Not now."

"Jerome Morrow was never meant to be one step down on the podium. With all I had going for me I was still second best. Me. So how do YOU expect to pull this off?"

    "No one exceeds his potential."

    "If he did?"

"It would simply mean that we did not accurately gauged his potential in the first place."

  • "It's funny: you work so hard, you do everything you can to get away from a place and when you finally get your chance to leave... You find a reason to stay." And a couple of funny quotes: "Who lives up there?" "Well, I certainly don't." "How tall are you?" "4'46"." "How tall were you before the accident?" "How are you, Jerome?" "Not bad, Jerome." "How the hell did you get up here?" "Oh, I could always walk: I was faking it."
  • The only way your going to see the inside of a spaceship is if you were cleaning it.

  • Amazing writer!!!

  • how about, " One finger or Twelve it's how you play"

  • @Nixom1334

    I don't understand that one

  • @cypselusbg it means that it doesn't matter what extra stuff you got it's how you use it and how much effort you out into it

  • "Of course they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe Im not leaving; maybe Im going home." Great quote! And it definitely true!

  • epic.

  • I live this movie and I KNOW what he feels. Genetics still screws with us and even when I touch my dream, I some how feel it's going to be taken away from me. I wish someone could understand me....except only a movie can.

  • @Ricks550 This is a human condition nearly all have experienced...recommend, though certainly less cerebral, youtub'ing "Rocky Balboa it ain't how hard you can hit" speech. You can only succeed by failing...no one walks and stands on their first attempt.

  • :D

Why would you feel that way.Exept if you are like Jerome?

Put aside the sophistic talks - I recomend to you the book of Paulo Coelu - the 3 questions - who am i,where am i going, whos going with me?

  • Please can you do memorable lines of; Solaris, End of the Affair & The English Patient... please please please please please...

  • Excellent video thanks for posting

  • "WHAT'S YOUR NUMBA?"

    jude law is GENIUS!!!!!

  • hahaa "you fucking flat foot!!" lmao

  • wait wheres that part??

  • best-movie-ever.

    best line @ 2:32.

"you wanna know how i did it?....i never saved anything for the swim back."

  • @officer2308 I AGREE!!!!!

  • @officer2308 - best line was : "Say hello to your mother for me, dicknose"

  • @officer2308 for anybody who has a brother that quote is sublime..

  • @officer2308 that was not the best line....

  • "I'm sorry... The wind caught it."

  • Best line in whole movie is by Jude law - we must get drunk immediately.

  • loool

  • I agree LOL. That made me laugh a little while watching the movie..

  • @Damasta129 close - it's "do you want to go dancing?"

  • Best movie, ever, and I'd add another line, when Uma Thurman says to him:"You couldn't see anything...but you crossed, anyway"!

  • I can't remember if its here but, most people forget "...it must be the light..." Scene.

  • My biggest aversion to allowing genetic engineering, the type shown in this film, is it will just become another tool of rich people to further distance themselves from the poor or middle class.

  • A true classic

  • hah, I didn't catch that about the medal. Thanks!

  • I love this movie

  • My two favourites would be the "I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal, then when I was standing right beside it" and the "You wanna know how I did it?! This is how I did it! I never saved anything for the swim back!"

  • "It's funny, you work so hard, you do everything you can to get away from a place, and when you finally get your chance to leave, you find a reason to stay."

  • definitely. best lines ever.

  • just the best cf movie.

  • Anton is the best of his parents, but not the best of their spirit.

  • Too true alex1marsh2.

  • Exact.!

  • Great video for one of my personal all time favorite films EVER! How this missed the academy's recognition is beyond me!

  • What about when he's a Janitor and the supervisor tells him if you work in space work on this space over here lol

  • yeah, i did catch that and i thought that was amazing. True about pride being a double edged sword.

  • that was the best one imo, i still cant watch jerome ending his life :/

    This movie fucking rocks!

  • I like those but the most emotional I think is vincents lines with Irene. "They got you looking so hard.."

  • This is one of the best movies of all time so underrated and i found it by coinsedence. Whenever you doubt yourself watch this and you will be reenergized i promise.

  • no shit! I actually fell the need to watch this now... And I have this big important job interview tomorrow that freaks me out. ah! life... there is no gene for faith

  • what about the line where uma thurman & ethan are in the resteraunt.

& she said "i have a crazy idea that you more interested in the investigation, than me."

& he says "yeah.......that is a crazy idea".

    or something like that.

    :)

    i loved that line.

  • Amazing!

  • yea or the one that the guy whas laying on the ground, not able to walk. and the crippled one in the weelchair asked: You wanna dance?

  • You forgot my favorite:

"We have to get drunk immediately."

  • just remember, that I was as good as any, and better than most.

    best movie ever

  • I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it :)

  • Then best line of the whole film...describes what i am going through.

  • subtle great line

  • great selection of quotes! loved this movie

  • love this movie
