why is it that when it comes to the virtual console we have to get the genesis port of a game? on wikipedia, it says that we will get the genesis versions of earthworm jim and clayfighter.

Yeah, with all of the graphics and digital sound, this was really a game that was made for the SNES that just was incidentally ported to the Genesis with downgraded versions of everything (versus Earthworm Jim, where both platform versions have their pluses and minuses, and both versions were made to play to the strengths of either console).
