Loved this series, but felt this episode was a letdown. Derren makes no distinction between situations where the odds are loaded against you (ponzi schemes, casino games) and the idea of simply being more open to day-to-day opportunities.
@JamieLeeArzola There will probably be a new season next year I imagine, perhaps a Christmas special. I guess we will have to wait and see what Derren cooks up for us.
I wonder if that dice was somehow rigged to cast a four with a distance control or something. Great episode. I hope Wayne doesn't become an addict to gambling now! lol. There is a difference between embracing and creating opportunities and risking things just for the sake of it.
@bbbbbb222222 Yes it was a rigged dice. A magnet was placed on the opposite side of the number 4 on that black dice. On the underside of the platform He had installed an electromagnet that could be turned on at the press of a button thus "drawing" the magnet side down causing the 4 to be face up. To get the audience to pic the number "4" he used subliminal messaging just like he did in the beginning of the show with the song. (I.E. place the number 4 all over town). Boom a happy miracle!
The moment we find out it was Wayne who bet his life savings was truly beautiful. I came close to shedding tears. Derren's specials have such a powerful structure to them, it's almost like watching a movie with the way he takes you through a narrative and a roller coaster of emotions.
The first three experiments were about exposing our potential for darkness - this one was about exposing our potential for greatness. I vote for more like this one!
Finally, an "experiment" whose brilliance (and they were ALL brilliant) is directed toward something truly uplifting and positive. Leaves the viewer with the feeling of openness and wanting to embrace life in its limitless opportunities - and that's a great thing! I hope Derren takes his shows in more of this kind of direction. Thanks for posting!
All I have to say is 4 specials are not enough for a year. I am always carving more from Derren Brown. Thank you again for posting computersolutions164 I don't know what I'd do with out these specials :)
Derren went to Wayne and showed him all that they had set up opportunities that he had missed. Then he puts up flyers to say that he would be at the town hall to host a lucky dice roll, I mean, why in the hell would Wayne NOT go for it? He ALREADY knows Derren is up to something, expecting him to embrace more opportunities that wayne would obviously perceive to be 'set up' therefore having a good outcome.
anyway, what is up with his daughter?! she has like, NO reaction to the win.
Watching The Experiments was particularly fun for me because it was like having two of my favorite mind-bending Brits in one -- Richard Wiseman and Derren Brown. Thanks as always, computersolutions164.
Gotta agree that this happy ending didn't cause much of a surprise, but staged or not staged it's easy to assume that Derren always have a back up plan or speech, or is ready to intervene at any time should something go wrong (like in the Guilt Trip...) -- Like here I had no problem imagining the whole town chipping in to cover the loss, to a point where Wayne would have ended up with more than he'd have lost -- cause come on, the town's 'lucky' reputation was at stake there, and for £1,000...
I did not really like this series, it was too eleborate and not very convincing, I wonder what has happened with Derren. The Events also sucked, then Hero at 30.000 ft was great and wonderful but this I think was a bit of a let down.
@rdoetjes a magnet would only have an effect on rigged dice, since normal dice don't contain metal. Since the die came from the toy shop owner I think we can assume that it was not rigged.
@MatteDOgu Well switching a die is easy! But look at the slowmo you see it repel at one point and pull to the bottom the next. It looked very unnatural -- besides it's easy to create dice with 6 magnets in them, 5 repel to the electronmagnet underneath the wooden board and one to attract it.
Also assumption with a magician is a bad starting point ;) We mentalists use convincers to dust our traces to make you conclude things (like ruling out the die) to make the illusion happen.
Just the fact that Derren asked: "On which throw do you want it to land" out loud tipped me off -- it makes no sense it adds no value.
Gosh, I shed a few tears with this one. That story is going to have a life of its own now. Absolutely amazing. Thank you computersolutions164 again for all the brilliant uploads. I truly appreciate it as a viewer from the US.

@themerrygambit That's pretty much what I was thinking. But are you supposing this, or you know this?

UNSURPRISING A HAPPY ENDING.
Yeah anyone notice there was a ambiguity with 3 and 4 from the crowd.
those who know what to look for can see why four might have been forced

a bit of an anticlimax to a good series after watching Remote Control; in my opinion one of the most artistic and thought provoking TV episodes ever.

Is it me or did the die look like it was attracted to a magnet?
