Total shit... I'm not actually wake up after the 70 years of history fucked up in 5/10 days.....How sad it is?!?!... you people of the west can't really understand russian people.
Does anyone know what happened with Natalia Laschenova's green card? She and her family were in danger of being deported a few years ago and the US gov't was taking its own, sweet time approving their paperwork so they could stay and work here. I can't find any info more recent than '08 and I have no idea whether they got everything worked out so they could stay here.
Interesting video - Soviet-era gymnastics with Contemporary-Christian Worship Music. Great video! I miss the old-school gymnastics - I just feel there is no art anymore in gymnastics, its all SKILL-SKILL-SKILL!!!
beautiful video and the song is such a nice one too. i would've liked to see some of shushunova in there as well as she was a tour de force before lashenova hit the scene
this was the essence of gymnastics...shaposhnikova, bichorova, yurchencko, mostepanova (who really invented the onodi on beam)....the beauty they posess in their gymnastics is really missing today with the exception of Liukin
yeah i s'pose, and i definately agree that pavlova is more elegant, i just meant that the russians arent winning as much any more, they're not quite so dominent.
yeah, they didn't win many medals, but they had won the hearts of many people. I still consider the Russians to the Americans or Chinese. They are simply great!
yeah, me too, definately, they just seem to have that rue gymnastics spirit, with the amerivans ists a little too commercialised and the chinese a little too forced.
That is a young Stella Zakharova, she was one of the best Soviet era gymnasts. If you Google her name, you will find out a lot of stuff about her; she was so gorgeous-looking here, really young and cute!
we found a old bars at my gym and we sat it up and i tried to do like one of thos move things where you put your hips on the bar.. HOLY CRAP IT HURTS SOOOOO BAD
Yes, they were called "belly beats" for a reason!!! You certainly felt like your belly had been beaten up after doing many sets of those, believe me!!
You mean Kips? I remember doing Kips back in the day. (1976-1992 when I was in gymnastics) Ugh I hated them. Gymnasts today are very lucky that they don't have to do Kips, lucky them.
No, kips are upstarts; the move that you do before you cast to handstand. Belly beats are where the stomach is whipped against the bottom bar, Very painful!!
Me too: seeing Elena Mukhina makes me feel very sad indeed:( I have the whole documentary from which those clips are taken; its also on Youtube, its called "1978 Soviet training documentary" or something like that. The whole documentary is beautiful too.
It is marvelous to see gymnasts such as Natalia Shaposhnikova and Yelena Davydova looking so playful and jubilant. However,we also get to view their perseverance, discipline and disppointments.
It poignantly ends with images of the great Yelena Mukhina!
Loved Laschenova and her era of gymnastics... Truely artistic, they had the grace and the difficulty needed to leave people stunned I think. I love gymnastics still but sometimes I miss when they truely perform their routines, especially FX...
You are just jealous. Those athletes worked so hard for themselves and were as motivated as Americans will never be. Go blame the system now, but you can never diminish their greatness! I am so proud of them, just as I am proud to be born in the USSR.
Thank you. These gymnasts were so awesome not only because they worked hard, but because they really did have a burning passion for the sport. They HAD TO. You can't live and train and breathe gymnastics from age 5 being away from your family in a dormitory hundred of miles from home training that hard and not learn to love it. Especially knowing that this sport, that you, were actively supporting the well-being of your family back home. I miss alot of these gymnasts..sigh.
No. Elvira Saadi appears in this wonderful montage, but not until 5minutes 36 seconds into it.I am not sure who the girl at 52 seconds is, obviously she was on the Soviet team, as she is with Ludmila Tourischeva, but I am not sure who it is.
All countries do it every time you guys put Soviets under the microscope for everything just because they are so successful at everything they do you guys are jealous.
successful at everything they do? no they weren't, those athletes were because they worked their butts off! and correct me if i'm wrong, but they weren't that successful in keeping their whole system from collapsing.
The Soviet system was proof positive that if you take all the available resources and marshall all those resources into one area, you can succeed beyond wildest dreams. In a country where very little worked, sports worked.
Every sport trains their athletes to their fullest extent, and pushes them out beyond their limits and comfort zone. If they don't then what kind of coaches are they. It's the same like this everywhere for every sport and army just because the Soviets did it you guys are sympathizing with the "mistreated athletes" and making a HUGE BIG fucking deal out of it.
Are those girls like fucking 9 years old. And btw my dad uncle and dad were both athletes for the Soviet Union that competed at the Olympics and they said they never mistreated them only disciplined them and train them hard THAT IS WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL ATHLETE. All you guys are sitting here complaining about how they are mistreated BULLSHIT.
Soviets had such grace and elegance. Those young girls had to go through such hell under such vicious dictatorship. To an extent, one could say they still do. This was beautifully put together, almost makes you cry with the music choice as well. Thank you for sharing this; it was/is amazing.
"..embodied (and embody) the correctness of the political path we have chosen, the advantages of the system, and they are becoming a symbol of superiority. Hence the demand for victory - at any price" Her words on russia's obsession with gold medals.
I think they are amazing, but it's just sick the way they were treated back in the former USSR. The same thing with the hammer throwers and the wrestlers, but the succeded! no doubt.
That's Olga Korbut. I dunno, it's appears she's training some type of toe-shoot to the low bar. Not sure it she ever competed it, but it looks like she might be trying to finish by going into a front hip circle on th low bar or something.
It's from a documentary on her, like a biography. I generally get my videos from messageboards. If you want, I can try to upload it for you in the next week and then I'll send you a link.
Yes I made the montage. A lot of the footage comes from old Soviet documentaries etc. The main documentary I used was one filmed in the late 1970's called 'You in Gymnastics'.
