  • a jealous cellist sitting here, still liked the video!

  • 24 jealous cellists sitting on a tree;

    Wishing they had this Pugnani...

  • One of the best violinists in history in my opinion!

  • Even if he plays so well, this is accentued with his stradivarius.

  • @OangieOfullOchampiO

Assuming that a Strad actually sounds better than a modern violin...which is something of a heated debate over here.

    It doesn't btw.

  • The tone from his instrument is amazing to say the very least.

  • emotional!

  • ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gggggggggggggggggggggggooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The way he just pulls every ounce of color and sonority from that Strad is just ridiculous. There are so few artists capable of pushing an instrument to its limits like that.

  • @trevorpinnocky I think he playing a Guarnerius which would be a Guarn to you.

  • Comment removed

  • personally, I prefer an emotional and subtle interpretation/execution. I personally like the first half of the piece played defiantly and I found Perlman's heavy and constant vibrato a bit superficial and cheesy. The second half demonstrates his skills, and I know, fast+accurate 'should'= good. If Perlman's performance is to showcase his skills, I give him 5/5. But if his performance is to evoke deep emotions and tell a story, then I prefer others' interpretations.

  • I feel like I'm soo good at the violin until I hear Itzhak Perlman. Dang you Itzhak. Why are you so good?

  • @juliecatherine16 Polio :(

  • I think I just had my first eargasm.

  • Gave me chills = D

As expected from mr. Perlman ^^

  • Outstanding.

  • This was recorded back when he still gave a shit. Man, he was magnificent then.

  • @Ludlow889 And he still is :D

  • @JPLGaGa123 He's still got that gorgeous tone and phenomenal technique, but these past few years he sounds like he's on autopilot. The last recital I saw I could tell he was just going through the motions. He didn't come really alive till the end, when he was goofing around during the encores. I think maybe he needs to take some time off, cut back on his heavy touring schedule and just play the music he really wants to play and not what he feels he ought to play.

  • Okay, who disliked this and why?

  • Comment removed

  • daaannggg im learning this now. i wish it would sound this awesome :)

  • i disliked this because im a troll

  • @elitestick try no one cares?

  • trees are the answer to the worlds cupcake famine.

  • Dang I played this solo pretty god but nothing close to THAT! he must be an Alien or something

  • I'm playing this right now and it's really hard.. But Itzhak is playing it perfect!

  • Why is he so gooD?!?!?

  • he is the biggest violonist ever have been.i adore him<3

  • @99ileana He certainly is big xD

  • @VioliNaseem That's a harmonic. He played it correctly.

  • wowwy... I'm learning this right now

  • I'm normally listening to Deathcore and Brutal Death Metal.

    But this is fantastic! *-*

  • @TheHor1z0n

Just the first step on the road to enlightenment.

  • I start playing this with my new teacher next week. So excited. And bloody scared. I'm 19 and took a 4 year sabatical from violin coz my old teacher retired when I finished my Grade 8 at 15. Love this piece. Yet as I said before, scared. Especially because the last three minutes of the piece is very intimidating. But I love a good challenge :D

  • @cjh27878 I'm a violist >:( And I'm very offended by your comment!

lol jk @ offended by comment part... violists are used to being ridiculed by those who are jealous of us so fire away! Fire away those ridicules and jokes. We will still be the best!

  • woohoo

  • ...

  • WAAAW !!! AMAZING evem more than amazing !! but i think he tripped in a note !! :P check 1:53 or maybe its in 1:54 :P thumbs up if u noticed it :P but still though !! amaaaazing !! :D

  • @VioliNaseem That was a harmonic...

  • @Spangley03 well :/ i play this piece :) and im pretty sure that there are no harmonics in it !!! i dont know i u play the piece but if u do ... i meant when he goes to Do he does kinda a mistake which plays a different note then quckly comes back to the Do .... anyway i have nothing against perlman ... he's a great violinist .. and plays the piece 10036580061 tiems better than me ... im just a 14 years old kid who is trying to play it ... and listening who proffessionals do it ;) xD anyway thx

  • @VioliNaseem there are harmonics.

  • @VioliNaseem At the beginning, when you play the quarter notes, you can take liberty with the notes. The arpeggios that start with C, and go C>D>A, you can play the A as a harmonic as an added affect.

  • @VioliNaseem I wouldn't really call that messing up... It was just a lilt between notes.

  • @xblondiekins ya thats the word xD

  • SO CLEAR

  • this is so different from how I play it (besides the obvious skill disparity)

  • @ShrieK1295 YA U SUCK BRO

  • *sniff* *sniff* It's so beautiful. :*)

  • Such power! Fantastic!

  • i like its clearness

  • I have heard many performances of this piece, but I have NEVER heard it played so clearly and with such great emotion! BRAVISSIMO!!!

  • @superviolinist14 its itzhak perlman...duh?

  • @superviolinist14 Oh the wonders of audio editing.

  • @GoToHell987987

you know deaf people DO listen to classical music... they feel it with the vibration you know. Sometimes you can see deaf people in concert hall with their shoes off so that they can feel the sound with their feet.

    so they aren't 20 deaf people, they're 20 jealous cellists :P

  • @cathechung Or tone-deaf violists. Then again, tone-deaf was probably superfluous; the word 'violist' would probably have sufficed on its own.

  • @cjh37878

    HA!

Elitist pianist or something? Good one :P

  • @Surtak No, just a sarcastically big-headed violinist.

  • @cathechung You can't listen if your deaf.

  • Comment removed

  • epic!!!!!! dats relly good!

  • Hi people!!!

  • There are 20 deaf people...

  • Dang it... I'm still not that fast ... :(

  • stylish playing

  • Y U NO HAVE 1 MILLION VIEWS?

  • I highly recommend Joo Young Oh!!!!!!!

  • He played it great but really it was too tame not enough emotion but otherwise it was fine

  • @theamazingdoughnut I thought it was just fine having too much emotion would ruin this piece..... its always about having the right amount of it not too much.....

  • how do these professionals play all these notes with no in-between-sounds?

    is it practice?

  • @ConquistadorAlfred it is practise. Around a year ago, i kept having squeaky sounds and all, and eventually without really noticing, those sounds go away. Play your pieces slow and eventually when you get familiar with it everything will come together :)

  • awesome playing!!!

  • La versión de Midori es un poco más "tierna" :)

  • It's very great...but in my opinion a bit too fast interpretation ;)

  • @HaveFunWithGunz then i dare u to do it 10x slower and upload it i triple dog dare u

  • @superajlee Sry I don' t play the violin, but the clarinet and the piano... You can visit my channel and take a look at it ;) (Channel: 4vonwarschau ) ... but still I think it could be played a bit slower ;)

  • Брависсимо, Bravissimo!!

  • Ну какие здесь могут быть комментарии? Совершенен как Бог!

  • this is such a beautiful

my old violin teacher always said

"you always pick such sad and soworful pieces"

i don't know about you but sad pieces end up being the most beautiful ones.

  • I think Perlman is so inspiring. I'm playing this piece right now, and listening to this really gives me a picture of what it should sound like.

  • Brabo!! Thank you!!!

  • I'd go to hell and back to get the same sound that Perlman can get out of my violin

  • i like the roboto part with the 16th notes and dotted quarters

  • @whatismyname1253 roboto??

  • @duhhh86 i mean rubato music definition below :)

    ru·ba·to (r-bät) Music

    n. pl. ru·ba·tos

Rhythmic flexibility within a phrase or measure; a relaxation of strict time.

    adj.

    Containing or characterized by rubato.

  • @duhhh86 fudge i tryed posting it three times now and canceled it twice on acident

rubato flexible time in which you can add and cut time just as long as your with the piano once your done with the section that is rubato and sorry for my phail spelling :)

  • I like Joo Young Oh,s interpretion....no offense to Perlman's followers...this version is so direct and very cerebral...predictable!!!!!

  • i just got owned by a man who cant walk :/

  • wonderful !!!!!!!!!

  • This piece is such fun to play!

  • Comment removed

  • I can't get over how awesome he plays the last page, hahaha

  • Can't touch this...enough said

  • #1 the best

  • I'm always amazed with this man. He has the best musicality. True, true talent.

  • This is my favorite violin piece. It has action and feeling and Itzhak does it justice. I watched Leila Josefowicz version and she smoked it. In that video I think she was thirteen. Unbelievable talent. Thanks for posting this, it is great.

  • When I watched this video a year and a half ago, it had 149,000 views..now look at it. Amazing.

  • Когда слышу эту музыку - "мороз по коже". Не страшно жить, если есть эта музыка. Но почему-то слезы льются...

  • I am currently working on this piece and Im hoping to play it for my high school spring concert :) This has been one of my favorite pieces of music, and the way he plays it with so much feeling and heart is just breath taking :') I hope that when I play it I play with as much feeling for the music as he does :)

  • que genio!

  • Perlman himself said in a masterclass that you will never play the same piece twice the same. Each performance is a new interpretation or variant interpretation. Flattening or sharpening a tone here and there and myriad other variations to a piece is caused by the emotion generated by a particular performance. There are thousands out that can play pieces technically right but will never stand out and will remain 2nd string. Music is human emotion put into sound, perfection isn't in exactness.

  • @kaleigh37 you don't have to be better than someone to offer them criticism, and you should take all criticism seriously, since even if it's wrong, you still put the idea in their head, which means you can do something to improve

  • anyone who criticizes his playing had better be able to play better.

feel free to link to a video of you playing better than this, then we'll take your critique seriously, ok?

  • beautiful

  • absolutely amazing~ i can't wait till i'm finished learning this piece of art

  • WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DERANGED HOBOS TALKING ABOUT? I just saw one of his concerts in Chicago recently and they said he is undoubtedly the reigning musician of today! Itzhak Perlman is my sole inspiration! I WILL NOT LET YOU TALK ABOUT HIM LIKE THIS! His emotions and own interpretation are incorporated within everything he plays. He has Godly skill and technique! His intonation is horrifyingly amazing! I have yet to find something to criticize him with! SO BE QUIET!

  • @DragonHeart64358 you tell 'em :D personally I like JooYoung, Oh's version of this song

  • @ohverrmynd I really like JooYoung's version too!

  • @ohverrmynd if u listen to his playing, irs great. Watching it makes you think hes having a period...

  • Comment removed

  • simply fantastic

Perlman is a violin maestro. His speed is perfect, intonation is almost perfect, almost everything is perfect but his intonation is kind of sharp/high. But his solo part is just simply AWESOME!

  • @kiduarhl What in the world are you talking about, his intonation is too high?? Come on! I have performed with Hilary H. Joshua B., Perlman, Midori, and all the rest. If you don't understand intonation by now, individualized, then really, you shouldn't be playing anymore. Intonation is a personal thing to a large degree, and believe me, if this was OUT OF TUNE, especially with piano accompaniment, we would know. There are glitches, as there are in any performance, but so it is for everyone.

  • 18 people are over jealous

  • Feel totally uplifted whenever listening to Pugnani-Kreisler Prelude and Allegro.

  • do ppl really have to be so critical? c'mon, its music

  • Thank you so much for posting this up! And thank you, Mr. Perlman, for being what you are: an incredible violinist.

I've been working on this piece for several months and Perlman's interpretation and skill really gives me a sense of direction to how this piece should and CAN sound like.

  • @PinkYachi

You are correct but Perlman needs a tiny bit better intonation.

  • @kiduarhl I don't think so...Perlman is a genius.....a great violinist

  • i luv him and i am 11 and i hav played a duet with him before.

  • Love it!!! I can really learn from this video on how to make the sound

  • Simply magnificent...

  • I LOVE this sound and cannot wait to start playing it!

  • WOW ... he doesn't even have to move to play this piece.....

  • @KensiPodHelp hahahahaha :p

  • @KensiPodHelp wow ... my comment has 99 likes!!! yay

  • men, 18 guys don´t know about REAL music. >:( and, potpourri360 has all the reason, Itzhak prelman is wonderful

  • 18 guys don´t know about REAL music.

  • *looks at the likes and dislikes* 18 people are Justin Bieber fans! >:(

  • Plays with great style & panache. If you fancy a trip down memory lane, check out Barenboim, Jackie Du Pre, Mehta, Perlman & "Pinky" Zukerman { all incredibly young}, playing Schubert's TROUT QUINTET. There are several tantalisingly short clips on U-Tube of them rehearsing, generally clowning around, and in performance. A wonderful insight into their youth and with the sad exception of Jackie, clues as to the talent they would later unleash upon the world for our benefit.

  • 18 people dont know about real music!

  • I personally love his interpretation. The andante isn't dragging, and the allegro is just thrilling to listen to! This is my favorite performance of this song. I hear it in my head when I go running.

  • Yes, I have been treated to so many thin-toned, pansy violin players. Give me the rich, good bow arm of Perlman every time.

  • Ethereal!

  • fantastic!!!!!!

  • IT IS A VERY FANTASTIC PERFORMACES!!!!!!maybe the first part is without a strong caracter that would the autor but with the second you're fascinating me!!!!!!!BRAVO

  • @TheEmmaviolin

I think the first part is trong enough! :D

  • I think 17 people misread the dislike button and thought it said dis i like.

  • Dnload the audio from this video at thetunify doht cohm.

  • Wonderful. Played with great poise and style.

But who's that guy making noise in the background, with a piano I think?

I know this is Violin all the way here, but why leave out the name of the poor stooge? I'd bet he's some pro since he's playing with one of the top musicians in the world, still he doesn't deserve to come in the light. Sheesh...

  • if you tune all your strings perfectly note-wise using the most scientifically accurate equipment and then play a double stop on the open strings it will not sound right, a perfect fifth is to the ear of the listener like a piece of music depends on the listener not perfect intonation, do you listen out like this for contemporary songs?

  • agree with it or not, his playing is with emotions.

  • Perfect Intonation is a lie. We are humans, not robots. No one should listen for, nor learn the vionlin to play everything perfectly in tune. It will ruin your musicality, along with your enjoyment of music. As Jai77 said, if you want to listen too lifeless technique, watch any other mediocre violinist who is really not musically ready for this piece.

  • @2007wesman Personally, I believe that "perfect intonation" can be defined in two words: JASCHA HEIFETZ !!

  • @CLASSICALFAN100 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BRAVO!!!!

  • The fact about Perlman (this happens with Oistrach too) is that you don't just admire but you also love him.You listen to them and you want to continue Fighting with the Biest. With Heifetz or Kogan you want to quit. Those qualities of being human and friendly are not so obvious to other top level virtuosos.

  • @apogram My point is Perlman is not even in the conversation when discussing great violinists like Kogan or Heifetz. He's simply not as good those guys. He's a very good violinist but not a great violinist.

  • @andreasamati but he is more natural than most of them.some people estimate this aspect too, in the consideration of a talent

  • @apogram I'm not saying he's not natural or not good. He's a good violinist, but there are many good violinists in the world. Some people get very annoyed at me when I point out how Perlman isn't the best of all time.

  • @andreasamati he maybe is not the best of all ages but he belongs to the greats.he is not just one of the many good violinists that exist almost everywhere.especially in '70s and 80s he was the hottest name.He was selling as a record product and a violin hero on stage. And he doesn't need my support and your comments are also without any real value.this debate has no meaning.Let us stop it here. You don't have to change your mind and let his admirers believe he is the best ever.

  • @apogram no no, perlman also makes me wana quit.

  • Unfortunately a vast majority of strongly disagree with you. Could someone of mediocre talent, as you describe him, have attained the fame and respect that he has achieved throughout the world? No. He is one of the greats, not because I say so, but because a majority of the world's musicians say so.

  • @porkyfry Can someone of mediocre talent attain fame in music? Yes. Itzhak Perlman isnt mediocre, he's quite good, but is he one of the greatest violinists of all time or one of the best violinists today? No. There are hundreds if not thousands of little kids in China and Russia to name a few places that could play better. He's not even one of the best Israeli violinists. There's a video of 13 year old Leila Josefowicz on Youtube, playing this piece with more precision than Perlman.

  • @andreasamati "Thousands of little kids in China and Russia..." Wow. Do us all a favor, go get educated, then come back here to have a discussion, rather than throw around a bunch of made up facts and your personal opinions. You've already taken up enough time and garnered enough attention on this video, so I will not be reading anything further from you.

    Last word: owned.

  • @porkyfry Intonation is not personal opinion. You are certainly entitled to believe Perlman's advertising, it's a free world. This recording and others of Perlman are not in tune to the highest standards. He is advertised to be this great violinist in the league of Heifetz, Milstein, Menuhin which I find absolutely absurd. He is not even the greatest violinist from Israel. Ever hear of a man named Yuval Yaron? He plays rings around Perlman in every sense.

  • I've been playing violin for four years, and I know I'll never play as beautifully as this man does. Bravo.

  • Still breathtaking after the 50th time, love playing this piece.

  • my dream is.. see a concert with Itzhak Perlman.

  • @loverrmyshades WTF does tht have to do with anything?? WHO CARES if ur here to post random things then u can play ur own music and post tht there. Most of us r listening to either learn, enjoy beautiful classical music or trying to get away from Justin bieber.

  • Fuck off about Justin Bieber, seriously. It's not even related to this video.

  • he really makes his violoin sing, every string, every note's sound and vibe is divine

  • The opening is really not in tune.

  • @andreasamati as someone who plays this piece, it's more in tune than I've ever heard. you have to shift up down and everywhere for EVERY SINGLE NOTE!

  • @TSmunt There are actually more in tune recordings even on Youtube.. Perlman certainly isn't the worst violinist in the world, but there are many that play better. His misleading PR makes you think he's the best in history (which is far from the case).

  • @TSmunt If you are shifting for every note... you are doing something wrong. I personally play this piece as well. The mastery of Itzhak is in his tone. He manages to make every note melt into a beautiful song. The double stops are unbelievable. I have heard every version of praeludium and allegro on youtube and itzhaks is far and away superior to the lot. As to whether he is the greatest violinist in history, that is an impossible conclusion to come to. (I heard Paganini was pretty good... :)

  • Now I know what a ;"Strad", Violin sounds like.

  • i was the 1000th person who liked this video :)

  • perlman is the best

  • @Juscch yup when it comes to everything but for bach henryk szeryng is the BEST in bach and no arthur grumiaux is NOT better henryk plays it with much more feeling. u r awesome itzhak :)
