Good illustration of the cost of pot control. Harrington on Cash Games Vol 1 talks about raising 3 X BB with KK, c-betting 1/2 pot on flop, then checking the turn since, "You only have a pair and you don't want to play a huge pot with anything less than a set." Although I agree with Harrington in some ways, it opens up a LOT of river bluffs, esp against good players. He can have any draw on the turn and that can make almost ANY card look scary on the river.
that's a pretty dubious laydown. if you're not gonna bet the turn, surely you have to call a defensive river prod
