Althoughthis guy seems physically gifted, I would like to see him in full contact tournaments or mma fights.Demonstrations like these make even aikido look cool.Well sort of
his attacks is silat indeed, but his stance is not... I don't see the traditional dancing hand which is one of the signature of silat in here. This guy clearly practical oriented, which is good, but unfortunately make it look like other MA to those who unfamiliar with silat.
though nobody really know where the origin of pencak silat came from... it definitely comes from the archipelago of south east asia. The three countries that have a tradition of silat are Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines
Indonesia has a lot more varieties of pencak silat because of the numerous ethnic groups, but most come from Sumatra and Java...
@daijishin Silat was first created and developed in the island of Java and Sumatra. Centuries later silat reached areas beyond Indonesia through diaspora of people from Indonesia islands. People from Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi moved into and settled in Malay peninsula and other islands. They brought silat and passed on to their descendants who later modified and developed it into more various and distinct styles.
Hence, Malaysia has Silat Melayu and Philipines with their Kali Silat..
Though the exact time remain unknown but it's confirmed by historians that early silat is from Indonesia. All oldest records about silat is only found in Indonesia, including bas reliefs during Srivijayan era.
Indonesian silat is parent to silat styles in other SEA countries. Silat in Malaysia was derived from Indonesian styles, and as such is younger than Indonesian silat. Indonesian people migrated to Malaysia for centuries. Over 80% of Malaysian Malay today is of Indonesian descent.
@sempoyon82 sorry.. i have to disagree.. 80% of malaysian malay are not indonesian descent.. have you heard majapahit? srivijaya? langkasuka? kedah kingdom? for your information.. majapahit and srivijaya are not indonesia at that time.. it were different kingdom at their time. Srivijaya also known melayu kingdom had war with majapahit. lost to majapahit and run to malay peninsular.
what i am try to say, it was not a nation but a malay race who settel in malay peninsular
Kedah and Langkasuka were not of Malay origin. It was later that they embraced Islam and adopt Malay culture, thus bcame part of "Malay".
Both Srivijaya & Majapahit are Indonesian kingdoms as both were emerged and based in Indonesia (Sumatera and Java).
Indonesian consist of many ethnic groups, not only Java, but also Malay, Minang, Bugis/Makassar, Banjar, etc. These people of Indonesia has been migrated to peninsula for centuries. That's the reason M'sia have similar culture with Indo.
At the time of Malaka's peak, being muslim automatically a Malay by law. Semenanjung was under Malaka's sphere of influence, and the people who embrace Islam counted as Malays regardless of their origin (the same law now preserved by UMNO in modern Malaysia). Hence, you got many Malays in Malaysia that actually NOT of Malay origin. If Indonesia abide the same law, you got 200 million "Malays".
... Up until Malaysia's independence in 1963, Malays was not the majority. The Malaysia govt. then reenacted old law of Malaka and merged groups of "muslim austronesian" in Malaysia into one, MALAY, based on their religion of Islam. All being "Malaynized". From the late 60s until today, millions of Indonesians migrated to Malaysia (mostly Javanese). Many of them are given citizenship by the Govt., and since they're muslim, they are officially Malay of Malaysia.
uh, no. the origin is still unknown as far as anyone knows but pencak silat is from indonesia. seni gayong, cekak or lian is definitely malaysian silat. but as for silat roots, no 1 really knows, sum say silat originatesd from phillipines.
Wow that the real action for live silat. coz fight in real live never use any unnecesary movement. belive that. U may ask some crazy nuty and scary gang leader from your most scary place (known) lol.
Agreed. Silat is multi-directional and vicious like a tornado, here it seems to face only one direction not so silat. Also the fine subtleties of silat not so evident, clearly influenced by other arts, probably western since his upper body didn't make use much of 3D space
I have made some seminars with Franck Ropers in Belgium. He is truly a wonderful guy and a grand recognized Silat master. He has also powerful legs ! Nice job Franck ! Best regards !
soo fast, and nice kick !
