When I questioned the rep about any cost the company has to pay for the certification, she did a check and admitted the rabbinical union charges them $2000 per year. I thought it would be hard to avoid Kosher Tax items, but after two weeks of practice, I've limited my purchases of these items to 1-3% of my shopping budget. When manufacturers seek Kosher certification, they do so in the hope of acquiring a wider audience for their product.
The certification, itself, is but an infinitesimally small fraction of the products sale potential. So small is it, in fact, the manufacturer could not possibly tax the consumer on it. It wouldn't make sense.

When I questioned the rep about any cost the company has to pay for the certification, she did a check and admitted the rabbinical union charges them $2000 per year. Multiply that by the hundreds, if not thousands, of companies coerced into having their products 'kosherized', and you can see how highly profitable this religious scam is. Kosher certified food gives no assurances that the quality of the product is going to be any better. A recent report from Natural News regarding a company whose factory had become contaminated with salmonella indicated that many of the products were kosher approved.

go to little markets; try food from other countries (cookies, cereal etc.); your local chinese or korean shop won't allow Kosher Taxed items; Farmer's Markets. I thought it would be hard to avoid Kosher Tax items, but after two weeks of practice, I've limited my purchases of these items to 1-3% of my shopping budget. Before that, I had no idea I had been ripped off for years.
Shop locally, it helps your community also with jobs and revenue.
