  • Choppy animation that is obviously hastily made. Mediocre to bad voice acting. This is obviously not up to worldwide standards yet, but we have to start somewhere.... and I'm happy that they at least thought of reviving interest in this industry.

  • I wonder if super inggo at ang super tropa meet this guys = epic!

  • any1 has a copy?

  • to those who dosen't like our country, back off

  • In uot country it's called fucker bullshit!!!!!!!

  • in our country its called a manananggal. its a filipino mythical creature somewhat similar to a vampire, only it can cut itself into half.

  • this has better animation than Urduja..

  • well maganda yung story kaso gandahan pa nila yung animation and sana magtagalog n lang kung phil. cartoons 2 sana walang eng. pero pagpatuloy nila ng paggawa ng ganito

  • lol. just watched this in the cinemas yesterday

  • me.. too..hahaa,,,,

  • I think this will be better if they hire more experienced dubbers.. the dubbers as i see this trailer lacks emotions and all. and the background music.. urghhh. good animation tho. kudos Philippines!

  • nice animation... very nifty movement.

  • creepy halfbodied girl

  • this is definitely for the kids! have you watch the movie XD876CX?

  • i dont think this was made for young children

  • wow..be awesome if I knew what htey were saying XD

  • learning Filipino language is never too late. hehehe.

  • lol

  • the same maker as urduja?

  • nope... :D

  • we have own originality....so why you compare the disney quality to our movies??

  • They're not comparing it., its because this is the ONLY animated film from the philippines. Not because they want disney quality.

  • what about Urduja? its the first animated feature ever made in Philippines.

  • own originality? is there such thing as originality that is not our own?

  • are you saying that filipinos are mere copycats?

  • ganda

  • duh

    I think

    they should

    spend hundred of millions

    before they meet the quality

    of disney..

    but I think its awesome!

  • that's the real thing..

    they've done it great.

what more can they do with such a big amount?

  • yawn.....

  • i watched it just today in SM Fairview

  • zokamaru (3 weeks ago) ,,,,,,shut up!! early 80's a lot of filipino animator contributes a lot in hanna barbera and jim henson...baka di mo alam...pinoy c samuel ondillo a background artist ng hanna barbera, wala pa c bohol ng "nemo" noon...hee...hee...at ang no. 1 sa western na animator at art director ay pinoy...wag mo small-lin mga pinoy...hinde natin magawa dahil bulok system natin, nkatuon lng sa iyakan at pag-big film industry ng pinoy...

  • dammit. I missed urduja now I missed dayo too. DVDs please!!

  • the japs and americans have more money and more experience than this little production... At least the local animation scene is getting somewhere and I'm really happy for it...

I think the character designs are actually avoiding anime and western drawing styles. I think thats a pretty good move. Not everyone wants to copy japs and americans right?

  • @scraperindustry : Why avoid anime and US drawing styles? Is there another style that is better, and proven to be better than those, and are already producing $billions a year? The anime market in the USA alone is worth $3B per year. Avatar Legend of Aang is a good example of a blend of anime and US style. That show lead to a spin-off of a movie (irregardless of how horrible it was) that resulted in $300M revenue. Those style are where the money is, outside of that, probably won't grow.

  • @petrusromanus21 I personally believe that when it comes to artistic expression, its important to have your own style. If everyone copied the popular animation styles of Japan and America just because it "sells" then people might as well just invest your money in the originals. Where's the artistic merit in copying? Be influenced and inspired, yes, but straight out copy the anime style?

Your comment is full of corporate arrogance. It has no place on an indie production like this.

  • @scraperindustry That's how the world works. Hollywood, Video Games recycle what works (remakes, existing series) more often than invest in risky new material. Dayo didn't sell. P58M budget earned P5M. No one will bankroll this again no matter how fantastic the art style is. If no one liked daVinci or Michaelangelo's styles, no one would have bankrolled them either. History proves art does not flourish without money. No money, no "indie" production. I say go with what already works and sells.

  • @scraperindustry In fairness to the movie Dayo itself, the makers failed to make money because it launched with 7 or so other competitors in a narrow 2 week window. It had no working plan to market overseas and instead focused on the small local market. They know how to make a movie, but they don't know how to sell it.

  • @petrusromanus21 Admittedly Dayo was pretty bad in terms of story and choppy animation and didn't have the substance of other independent movies. But Persepolis for example, is a great film with a unique art style and a small budget of only $7.3million, compared to the 100+million dollar budget of mainstream animations such as Disney. But like I said, I am happy they tried at least to incorporate something truly FILIPINO instead of just copying.

  • @scraperindustry Besides, if no one ever tried anything new, where would the animation industry be in the first place? All of these so called "tried and true" formulas started out as something new and innovative once upon a time. I'm a fan of indiecinema and while many of them can be pretty bad, some have been absolutely brilliant but of course only catered to a niche market. If something doesn't sell, do you have to stop making it? No. Just the fact you are creating something original is enough

  • @scraperindustry in terms of story, I would say, it is a story meant for kids. It is a kids' movie. The Dora TV show has probably earned $25B over the years, I would say it is bad in terms of story appeal, but it IS a children's show, hence it will only appeal to very specific age groups. If I were a kid age 3-5, I would likely say, Dora is the best, and apply the same logic to Dayo.

  • @petrusromanus21 However, my point is that they should try to be original at least instead of just copying the Dora the Explorer formula as you seem to be insinuating. In case you haven't noticed, Dora is a good example of something with an identity and its own art style. How many other children's shows are geared towards a (primarily) American audience yet seeks to introduce kids to Latin-american culture and Spanish? I dont think we should resort to plagiarism just to maximize profits. :/

  • @scraperindustry Also... I think that they already tried using the whole "copying the best" thing with Urduja. That film tried to follow the Disney Princess musical formula complete with spunky animal sidekicks. I personally think it didn't work... Dayo was somewhat better even if I didn't like it but I hear the latest filipino animation RPG Metanoia (even if it is CGI) was actually pretty good though I haven't seen it yet. I'm glad that films like Dayo and Urduja at least got the ball rolling

  • @scraperindustry As I said earlier, they may know how to make a movie, but they don't know how to sell it. They cannot expect to see the numbers they need if they limit themselves to distributing in the Philippines. They need to look at the overseas market. More than half of the income in US made movies come from the international market. If they settle on the small local market, they will continue to fail. Without any commercial success, this art form/industry will not flourish.

  • loser.

  • Waaaaa!

  • matindi talaga ang pinoy

  • they should put the white lady in this.. :)

    this seems pretty.. good.

  • the only thing lopsided about this movie is the alarming amount of commercial refferences..

  • napanood ko lang to kahapon out of curiosity. Well, so far eto palang ang nakita kong matinong animated movie na gawa ng pinoy. Ang ganda ng Score at Sound! The story is fine. maganda panoorin ito ng mga bata.

  • woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 anyway..i loved this movie...i was at the red carpet premiere last december 19, 2008...then there was a party afterwards and i got home at 3am...=)) we should appreciate the hard work the producers, directors, animators and everyone who worked on this movie...=))

    it won:

    best original score

    best original theme song

    best visual effects

    best sound

in the 34th metro manila film festival

the awarding was last night but they're going to air it today on c/s9..

  • pra skin, mejo hindi ako nsatisfied sa movie kse yung graphics hindi mxadong appealing pra siyang lumang cartoon unlike malaysia and thailnd nkkgawa n cla ng 3d anmation movie.

  • I think they're trying too hard in doing the backgrounds in the movie...

That, or it should be watching in from of a computer screen.

  • hello..if they have budget..that is possible..common sense please

  • palabas na kahapon eto ha.

  • Sana ginawa nalang nilang live-action!

I'd love to see the Philippine creature in life!

  • If you ask me, I do not want to hear other people criticism If ever na hindi pa nila napapanuod. Yung tipong unang tingin nila. For me, before I criticize one whole pinoy animation, panunuorin ko muna para malaman ko ang buong palabas kung kailangan pa ng improvement, maganda or pangit ba. Take a risk sa kagagastuhing pera.

  • they're all lip synch charices hitman is much better watch charice & arnel duet 4 appetizer

  • this is waaayy better than urduja... nagi-improve na... :D

  • gusto ko syang panoorin! ^_^

  • Maybe it a good film but yung dubbing walang emotion ,just close your eyes and listen to their dialogs .

Try these softwares : Toonbooms Studio 4, Anime Studio.

Kung trip mo naman yung 3D, try Lightwave or Maya or 3D max or Cinema 4D.

  • Kahit tablet from Genius o CDR-King pwede na.

  • The Genius F-610s from CDR-King is garbage. Its size is 6x8, but the active area is only 4x6. There is also input lag, not to mention the stylus is battery-operated.

Just add about P500 more to get the Wacom Graphire 4x6. Far superior by fixing all problems mentioned.

  • Kahit yung mas cheaper na Wacom Bamboo, it also works great. Pwede na for zbrushing.

  • tama bro

  • Japan? Ay. Nakita ko ang unang Japan Animation nila. Ang pangit. I mean, hindi naman pangit.

  • UMASENSO KA AKING MAHAL NA PILIPINAS! please support our animated films and other filipino made things..thank you!

    I can't wait to watch this..excited nq! ^_^

  • the sound quality of the voices isn't good at all. parang they just used a cheap dynamic microphone and slapped the sound files into the movie... maganda nga ang visuals, but i hope the production offers advances in the audio aspect of the film as well...

  • Hi Jetter, eto yung lumang test trailer nila, dapat ang panoorin mo yung Dayo Full Cinema Trailer. Advances in Audio? sa Technicolor Thailand lang naman nila Final mix in Dolby Digital 7.1, there you go.

  • okay, that's good to know. it was just startling to view the trailer--you'll know in an instant the animation & scoring are stellar, and then there's the quality of the vox dubs, lol. looking forward to watching Dayo then...

  • wow..nice yung animation.. galing talaga ng pinoy..

bydwy, anoh kaya ginamit nilang animation software??

    galing.. parang flash..hehehe

    nice!

  • mwahahaha!

  • Alam ko madaming changes na ginawa upto the last minute alam ko hanan ngayon before ipalabas. Well sana nga maganda ang end product.

Pinipilit ko pero I'm just not impressed.

  • its not true, CUTTING EDGE cannot be duplicated it was the same American based company, please visit their website before you accused me wrong.

  • sorry but it was not 100% pinoy, cutting edge is an animation company based in America.

  • 3D animated na uso ngayun!

  • There's a full movie trailer, it was shown at Animahinasyon 2008 yesterday. I'm hoping that there'll be an official blog/usergroup for this movie soon, kinda like what Geneon did with Blassreiter. I think that'll be very good advertisement for the movie... instead of the usual random clips all over just YouTube, 'coz it'd have official information and everything~ ^^

  • there is an official website which included a community forum in it...

  • Go Filipino Films! preserve and develop our culture!

  • haha philipine airlines yung eroplano

  • Parang Arthur and the Minimoys.. : )

Cheers!!

  • Oo, alam ko yan, part ako nung orchestra/team of orchestrators :)

  • we should call it.....

    Follywood... >:))

  • sana maimprove pa nila ung effects saka ung galaw ng lips nila..

pero infairness ok 2 for their first release

  • Mas maganda kung gawing animation ang Encantadia or Mulawin, but still it's a great leap for Filipinos, lagi na lang kasing kinukuha ng ibang dayo ang mga talents natin. It's time to create our own!!!

  • bkit naging philippine's 1st full lenght animated film to eh dba nauna nman ung URDUJA?

It is not the first and not 100% Filipino as what most believed in. Cutting edge is an American Animation Production.

    Cheers!

  • manonood ako nito dahil nandito ang moymoypalaboy. sina moymoy and roadfill!!! hehee!!! but of course din, the all-star cast like nash, michael v, johnny delgado, nova villa, pokwang! and the impressive animation!

  • uwaa!!! SI NASH UN!? uwaa!! ang kyuuutt!! i lab nash chuu much!

  • ang cute ng boses ni nash

  • Not bad for a first try!

ANO BA ANG SPARK NG MOVING ITO??? what motivates the veiwers to watch????

  • cute :) dubbing is much better than Urduja but both make me proud to be pinoy :D

keep it up kapatid. May mararating.

    3

  • Pre check out niyo yung Dayo Official teaser trailer.

  • PARANG URDUJA DIN!!

  • PANGIT!!!

Brainwash mo muka nyo! Mga bobo lang mahahatak nyan!

  • yes dude, i know that. what i mean is through art. alam mo, dahil sanay na ang pinoy sa kahirapan, nawawalan na ng gana para mag protesta ang ilang pinoy, lalo na kung ang papalit man sa pinatalsik ay walang pinagka iba sa naunang pinatalsik, kaya tumayo nalang tayo sa sarili nating paa. kung aasa tayo sa mga tuso sa gobyerno, walang mangyayari satin.

  • Manananggal na bida ?!?

    Holy syet !!!!

  • Filipino animators are among the best! A Filipino artist at Pixar for WALL-E Animation (design team) that we all should be proud of, his name is Nelson Bohol.

TOEI Animation is the largest anime studio in Japan, pero more than 80% of the production is done here in the Philippines, from key drawing, background, pagpapagalaw, effects, etc. etc. pag ok na,binabalik uli yun s Japan for dubbing, sound effects and putting Japanese text then for TV release...

Japan and USA are probably the main producers of these shows, but most of their animators are PINOY!!! lam nyo kung bakit? iba daw kasi pag pilipino ang guamgawa...

  • neat, i quite like it. Congratz Phillipenes

  • can't wait...nakakainis i wasn't able to watch urduja..but i want to watch this! salute to the filipino animators!

  • Watch out for the official teaser trailer of DAYO, sabi nila lalabas daw end of this month. Cheers!!

  • it is a third world country, so we are trying our best to do what we can given the limited amount of resources we have.

making our own animation is still quite new,

so a little consideration is greatly appreciated.

  • No, don't give him that.

    With all due respect,

this fool is NOT worth it.

He can't even spell things right.

    ' Philippinians ', oh Christ.

Makes me want to hurl at Disney.

  • we may be poor, but we're not ignorant.

  • good one!

  • If you wanna see terrible animation, watch Winx clan...

  • shut up did you know the makers of walt disney cartoons picture its all pinoy!!!!!!

  • Your menial level of comprehension astounds me.

  • awesome...too bad im not in the Philippines anymore

  • BIDA Animation circa 2003. An all pinoy TV series aired every saturday NBN-4. Although it was short lived and not as well marketed in my opinion one of the better animated feature in the philippines. And it was all digital as well 5 years earlier than Urduja and Dayo.

  • operative words:

feature-length animated film (not tv series)

fully-digital or paperless (perhaps your ink and paint was digital, but not your animation, clean-up and in-between)

  • Very Hannah Barbera but overall style looks better than Urduja (that's my only personal opinion). Maganda sana if both Urduja and Dayo fit each other on the December 2008 MIFF. Parang Pacquiao Vs. Marquez hehehe...

  • Looks like its made for kids, but I'll watch it anyway and I hope the story is good. So far the animation is okay, even though it seems to look like its produced for TV. I hope it doesn't have the story and design flaws like that in Urduja.

  • world of the vampire by jefferson red maganda ring gawan ng animation

  • the animation of filipino talents are now quaite remarkable.next time sana ang magawan naman ninyo ng animation ay ang world of the vampire ni jefferson red purong pinoy. pambato sa international market.

  • So let's see... since wala namang Best Animation award sa MMFF, how'd Dayo fit into this?

I just hope Dayo wins most of the awards and shove that crap up their... somewhere.

  • this film looks promising.

    i love philippine mythology.

is the protagonist voiced by Makisig Morales?

  • Nope! A project like this should only be given to the best.

Buboy is being voiced by none other than 2-time MMFF Best Child Performer (and Star Awards's Best Child Actor this year) NASH AGUAS! ^_^

  • Go! Ipagpatuloy pa natin to mga Pinoys! Wag tayong mawalan ng pag asa even our country is currupt. Through art, ipakita natin ang galing natin.

Anong ' magaling ' dun ?

  • Hmmm. Looks like Philippine Animation is off to a good start. Hope it somehow develops into something that, preferably, isn't cliche'd as the latest offerings of the ailing Philippine Cinema.

  • Frey, 100% Filipino Production ang DAYO, kung american production, hindi papayagan ng Metro Manila Film Fest Committee na sumali kasi exclusively for pinoy films and companies ang MMFF.

  • have ever heard about world of the vampire?

  • we can't be proud of this, why because it is not fully FILIPINO, tagalog nga pero AMERICAN PRODUCTION NMN.

  • It's official! After much deliberation, the MMFF Executive Committee had chosen DAYO as one of the entries for the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. 12 entries were officially entered for the 8 slots alloted by the committee. After the 7 slots were given to festival staples, it became a toss-up between DAYO and another film. Deliberations went on 'till late Sunday evening, and after much debate, the last slot was finally given to DAYO.

  • Looks promising..

  • I should watch this...

  • Great News!!! Its official. DAYO is part one of the 8 entries in this years Film Festival!!! something to look forward to.

  • check out dayo movie link, or the dayo on qtv for the videos of paperless animation! very cool! something to look forward to.

  • paperless animation using cintiq? this is interesting and nice story you got there! Keep up the good work dayo team!

  • and i think their using ctp pro... on macs.

  • what we can do is use these things na ibinasura sa atin ng amerika against them. let's make a gold mine from their trash. like when they threw jim henson's muppets in the philippines when we were young gaya nina pong pagong at kiko matsing, akala nila hindi magki-klik. e biglang natalo ang sesame street ng three years straight ng batibot sa international awards noon. napahiya sila. sampal sa kanila. kaya binawi nila.

  • So,nagpupulot lang tayo ng basura , ganon ?

    ' Payatas ' ng mundo ?

  • actually, ang dating sa ilang mga kakilala ko, with the release of urduja and others to come, dahil mas patok na sa global audience ang mga 3-D animation ng pixar at dreamworks kesa flat na animation, tinapunan na naman tayo ng hollywood ng mga basura nilang kagamitan na pinaglumaan. tapos tayo, parang 30 years-50 years na delayed. ngayon lang tayo gumagawa ng ganito.
