I guarantee that in 5 years when Seguin is 23 like Kessel he will be a better overall player, so have fun with Kessel Leafs fans.
So basically this is how the trade went down, we dumped Kessel to re-sign the money for Savard, had two first rounders and traded ours to acquire Horton and we drafted Seguin and Knight and have another first rounder this year.
Hmmmmm how about that you deluded Leaf fans, what your opinion on that???
@RedsoxDude1546 Were still happy to have Kessel on our team, despite the fact seguin could be the better player in the future. We have had the worst luck ever when it comes to first round draft picks. The odds of the leafs getting a franchise player from the draft are against them. We have not had a franchise player from the draft since 1985 Wendel Clark.
I will always be disappointed the Oilers didn't pick Seguin. Centres are more important than wingers imo. Plus, Seguin is a right handed shooter, those are kinda rare. He also had less time to develop in the juniors than Hall and did equally well (point wise) on a weaker team in his second year when Hall was on his third .
LOL at Toronto fans trying to sound like they got the better of the deal. This guy will get 40-45 points this season (don't quote me) and is obviously only on his first year
Sorry laughing at Toronto how shit kessel is going to be Phill Kessel -7 goals Tyler seguin- 1 goal no disrespect to eguin great hockey player but rather have kessel on my team. iam pretty sure alot of bruins fans would love him back
@bluenoob101 Bruins already payed the price for giving up Kessel. They could of knocked out the flyers in the playoffs but instead they choose to roll the dice on a top prospect that just might be better than kessel. Yet people overate prospects just because they play well in junior. The definition of a prospect is an unproven nhl player.
@bluenoob101 When bruins fans were shouting "thank you kessel" I think it is pretty clear that they would rather have seguin. He will be much better than kessel.
Actually we don't want him back, Seguin is 18 and is playing great so far while learning how to play defense. You can keep your selfish one dimensional player, I think I speak for the Bruins nation that we would much rather have Seguin. Also since we had two first round picks we traded ours to get Nathan Horton who is leading our team in points thus far. Oh and did I forget the second round pick Jared Knight who is vastly under-rated and or did I forget the other first rounder?
@bluenoob101 typical leafs fan, if your going to compare seguin and kessel, wait until seguin gets to be about 23 and develops in the nhl. Of course seguins not gonna be as good as kessel right now. Hes been playing for alot longer. Compare their stats when seguin is fully developed... time will tell. But leave it to a leafs fan to compare an 18 year old kid in his rookie year to a 23 year old man. Leafs fans make me laugh... ooo and you can keep kessel, I would take Seguin over him anyday
You can argue that if the Bruins still had Phil Kessel they would have beat the Flyers. So they already are paying for the Kessel trade where as the Leafs have nothing to lose right now. We will take Phil Kessel's 4 goals and enjoy our 4 - 0 - 0 start to the season.
@kennnnn5 I am a huge Bruins fan and Seguin fan of course... And I would agree that Eberle's first goal was better. That being said, they're both gonna be stars in the NHL as their careers develop. It's awsome to see all this talent coming into the league at one time.

@quig66 Nothing without Savard? Do you people not READ statistics? LOL. He scored 30 goals without a training camp and limited amount of games played. He also has one of the best wrist shots I've seen in a LONG time.
He's also like what, 22-23? You're funny, kid. How's Savard doing over in Boston? Oh, wait a second...
@KingHiggins03 lol I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are probably a smart guy in real life, but I can't take your comment about Seguin eventually being better than Kessel seriously. Just don't see that happening. Seguin doesn't seem like a natural talent.
@MrRareFind (Seguin) "Doesn't seem like a natural talent" ? You obviously don't know much about hockey... Or you are just a jealous leafs fan, and are trying to compensate for your teams loss due to the trade... Actually, from what I have seen posted by leafs fans here and on other sites, I would say both would apply. Seguin cannot be compared to Kessel right now (he is an 18 year old straight out of only two seasons in the OHL) and Kessel is a veteran. Kessel was playing college hockey at 18...
@Bruinology Wow did my comment hurt you? lol faggot go take a chill pill and go sit in the corner. It's my fucking point of view, and don't get your panties in a knot.
@MrRareFind lol... Internet tough guys... Gotta love it. It's fine to have an opinion, but when its clearly one based off of ignorance, then it holds no validation and is void of any consideration. To put it simple for you; You don't know shit about hockey if you think Tyler Seguin is not a naturally gifted hockey player based on what we have seen thus far. Will he become a star in the nhl? I think he will, but regardless if he does or not, he still is an obvious talent.
@Bruinology Hahaha you must be retarded. You are the one acting all tough and knowledgeable on the net, when you are clearly biased bruins fan who has his head up his ass.
Seguin needs another year in the OHL. He won't have a good season this year. I'm saying Eberle takes the Calder this year. He is the most NHL ready rookie in the league.
@LuongoRocks2733 I for one don't expect too much out of him this year... I think he is fine on the team right now... I could name some veterans that could do worse than a green rookie with obvious talent and potential. I think it will be good for Seguin to play at this level this season and get acclimated to the league. As far as Eberle, he is the most ready because he spent a year in the AHL prior to this season...
lol you think seguin is better than kessel? I doubt it. Still a good trade by toronto, we dont have to take a chance on prospects with a proven 30+ goal scorer.
@Essie77 how many goals/points does kessel have two games in? and now how many does seguin have? yea great deal for u guys. also not a leafs fans but boston sucks way more dick then the leafs.
@Essie77 if you would have looked at my comment u would notice i dont like the leafs.. boston just sucks way more dick. and yea who would you rather have chara or phaneuf? oh,good luck with Seguin he sates like he's got a pickle in his ass..
@Haptiic You can't be serious.... How old is Kessel, and how many years has he been in the Nation Hockey League? Kessel was playing in college at the same age as Seguin is now... So, get your head straight and stop comparing the two at this stage of Seguin's development. Kessel is a gifted goal scorer, but that is where his value ends. He is not the best team guy and is a one dimensional player with a bad attitude to boot. I am glad we traded him.
@Essie77 I used to really think the trade was in your favour, but after seeing Kessel's attitude this summer and how hard he worked out, I'm sorry but unless the Leafs finish in the bottom ten (and even then, it'd have to be a top 5er, imo) I don't think you guys remotely won this trade. If Kessel was 26, okay, but he's not and he's showing the ability to score 40 or more goals.
Seguin seems like a solid player, but I'm not sure he'll ever be an elite player. Will Kessel? He already is.
@GGnextMatt Are you honestly trying to say an unproven player is better than a proven player? Are you honestly trying to say just HAVING a first round pick is valuable? Are you kidding me? Do you not know hockey, haha? First round picks, beyond the top 10, is generally considered a crapshoot. Anything can happen. You can't disagree with that, considering guys like Zetterburg came quite late in the draft.
@games4lifefreak Brian Burke loves to give away draft pick...the Bruins will win the Kessel trade. I think Kessel is a pure goal scorer and will notch quite a few but that trade will prove to be disastrous for the Leafs. Just my opinion
@donovan1971 i doubt it, segiun will be a top line centre no doubt, but wont put up more than 70-80 points and 30 goals, and thats best case. they wont get a top 5 draft pick again so who won?
@Darionthisguy Boston, i thought I was clear on that? ;-) Seriously though Segiun will learn a lot from Bergeron and Savard (when healthy), Boston has a good learning (curve) system.
The leafs will (most likely) have a new head coach before the playoffs (which they will miss again, sorry but it's true). I'm not trying to troll here but look closely at Burke's resume.........Won 1 cup (with another general managers team) kudoos for ditching Federov's salary in Anaheim. That's it.
@Darionthisguy "Seguin won't put up more than 70-80 points" and you say that like it's set in stone. You're obviously a Leafs fan just trying to justify the Kessel trade, it was a horrible trade get over it. Seguin a better talent and better all around player than Kessel. Did you even watch this goal? the kids 18 and making it look easy in the NHL. Kessel was 20 when he first got to the NHL he played 70games and got 11 goals and 29 points. Seguin will easily top those numbers in his first year
@Ih8PorchMonkeys13 That's true but where does Seguin fit in your team right now? You already have a better playmaker (Savard) you guys have no goal scorers at all and that's why the trade hurt you. You'd be much better with Kessel.
@Ih8PorchMonkeys13 Kessel didnt get the ice time seguin is getting in his first year, after proving himself his first year the second he puts up 36 goals? no way seguin will have 36 goals this year, if ever. ive wacthed him play in plymouth plenty and i wont doubt that hes a talented hockey player, but there is now way this is a " horrible trade". 2011 is going to be the worst draft in the last 15 years, and yea you did get seguin, but thats only cause we had unexpected struggles. it was even.
@Darionthisguy Actually, Kessel scored 36 in his third year, just wanted to point that out. Also, this upcoming draft isn't THAT weak, especially if it's a top 10 pick: keep in mind that the majority of the media is based around Toronto and Ontario, and a big reason they're selling this draft short is because the OHL is lacking this season compared to previous years talent-wise. However, there is still tons of talent to be had otherwise. It won't be as strong as '09, but it won't be horrible.
@EnderSoldier it has been touted by the majority of CHL scouts as the worst in 15 years. The OHL is responsible for a good majority of top prospects and the WHL are responsible for most of the rest, the Q is a weak league so theres a reason so much focus is put no OHL. it will be weak, and thats not just one persons opionion, thats mosts scouts and gms
@Darionthisguy What you say is indeed correct, but I get the feeling this is going to be a stronger draft than initially anticipated. Some players are stepping up so far this season, the Ty Ratties of the world. Keep one thing in mind: heading into the 1999 draft, the scouts predicted it would be one of the strongest in years. Aside from the Sedins and maybe Havlat, not one first rounder became an impact player. In fact, some have called it the worst draft ever in hindsight.
@Darionthisguy what the fuck ? tyler seguin is a very talented player and i think he will reach 20 goals for this season and about 50 points in general, of course, when he will play the whole season at least 75 games
@games4lifefreak: The trade is STILL in our favor and will continue to be. Kessel is fucking soft and doesnt like to play defense. I'll take a Tyler Seguin over Phil Kessel any day. I'd also like to thank you guys for Tuuka Rask. Kessel is a great goal scorer no doubt. Seguin will definatly be an elite player. I understand you're bitter but come on now. Elite player is someone who does everything well. Kessel scores goals and thats about it.
@ShogunGorilla 'Thank you guys'? I'm not offended by what my team does, nor do I really understand why people like to 'thank' fans. We have nothing to do with the trade, and like any prospect, it's a crap shoot. You got a lucky trade with an inexperienced GM, kudos. Not sure why you need to bring it up. Is it relevant to Kessel? Nope. You seem defensive, considering I wasn't bitter in my post at all. You just seem to think I'm some angsty Leafs fan. Sadly, I'm not... BTW, defense can be taught.
@games4lifefreak: The trade is STILL in our favor and will continue to be. Kessel is soft and doesnt like to play defense. I'll take a Tyler Seguin over Phil Kessel any day. @SonnyA89 Seguin is playing better than Kessel did at the same age... Also, you say Seguin is not a goal scorer? I would have to strongly disagree... He scored eight more goals than hall did last season in the OHL (48 goals). The kid has a great shot and has already shown the ability to bury the puck at the NHL level ( 4 goals in 4 games in the preseason as an 18 year old rookie). He also has a goal and an assist and counting in the regular season so far.
@Bruinology No I agree completely with you. In the long run Seguin will be a better player than Kessel but as of right now Toronto needs some firepower and Kessel fits perfectly in our roster. He has a wicked shot, i'd say he has the best wrister in the league apart from Ovy. The Bruins need some offence as well and as good a player as Seguin is I seriously doubt he'd be able to fill the gap of a much needed pure goal scorer on your team. Anyways I have nothing against the Bruins, good luck.
@Essie77 nasty but so appropriate lol, Oilers fan here and i can't imagine what it would feel like if the oilers had that happen to them. But hey it's toronto.......lol CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!
The play by play announcers add a funny aspect to the game. They have become a custom to new England hockey fans. To be brutally honest though if you don't like them, then pay the money to go to a game. There a lot better then the guy over at NBC and Eddie in Chicago thats for sure. Can't stand to watch any game on VS with Eddie.
I have the same birthday as Seguin no joke: January 31st baby

Seguin needs another year in the OHL. He won't have a good season this year. I'm saying Eberle takes the Calder this year. He is the most NHL ready rookie in the league.
LuongoRocks2733 1 year ago
@LuongoRocks2733 I for one don't expect too much out of him this year... I think he is fine on the team right now... I could name some veterans that could do worse than a green rookie with obvious talent and potential. I think it will be good for Seguin to play at this level this season and get acclimated to the league. As far as Eberle, he is the most ready because he spent a year in the AHL prior to this season...

lol you think seguin is better than kessel? I doubt it. Still a good trade by toronto, we dont have to take a chance on prospects with a proven 30+ goal scorer.

@bumchoda Yeah the Kessel trade paid off in dividends for Toronto last year.

@Essie77 how many goals/points does kessel have two games in? and now how many does seguin have? yea great deal for u guys. also not a leafs fans but boston sucks way more dick then the leafs.
Haptiic 1 year ago
@Haptiic What's a Kessel? Did I mention we took Tuka Rask as well! LOL. Enjoy your season with Dion The Pylon as your captain!Lol
Essie77 1 year ago
@Essie77 lol Dion is no worse than Chara as a Captain.
MrRareFind 1 year ago
@Essie77 if you would have looked at my comment u would notice i dont like the leafs.. boston just sucks way more dick. and yea who would you rather have chara or phaneuf? oh,good luck with Seguin he sates like he's got a pickle in his ass..
Haptiic 1 year ago
@Haptiic You can't be serious.... How old is Kessel, and how many years has he been in the Nation Hockey League? Kessel was playing in college at the same age as Seguin is now... So, get your head straight and stop comparing the two at this stage of Seguin's development. Kessel is a gifted goal scorer, but that is where his value ends. He is not the best team guy and is a one dimensional player with a bad attitude to boot. I am glad we traded him.
Bruinology 1 year ago
@Essie77 I used to really think the trade was in your favour, but after seeing Kessel's attitude this summer and how hard he worked out, I'm sorry but unless the Leafs finish in the bottom ten (and even then, it'd have to be a top 5er, imo) I don't think you guys remotely won this trade. If Kessel was 26, okay, but he's not and he's showing the ability to score 40 or more goals.
Seguin seems like a solid player, but I'm not sure he'll ever be an elite player. Will Kessel? He already is.
games4lifefreak 1 year ago
@games4lifefreak the bruins will get another high draft pick, so they will likely win the trade
NHLArchive 1 year ago
@games4lifefreak
Are you honestly trying to say Kessel is as good as Seguin and then ANOTHER 1st round pick.
Remember when the leafs finished second last last year....yeah they had Kessel during that time as well.
GGnextMatt 1 year ago
@GGnextMatt Are you honestly trying to say an unproven player is better than a proven player? Are you honestly trying to say just HAVING a first round pick is valuable? Are you kidding me? Do you not know hockey, haha? First round picks, beyond the top 10, is generally considered a crapshoot. Anything can happen. You can't disagree with that, considering guys like Zetterburg came quite late in the draft.
games4lifefreak 1 year ago
@games4lifefreak Brian Burke loves to give away draft pick...the Bruins will win the Kessel trade. I think Kessel is a pure goal scorer and will notch quite a few but that trade will prove to be disastrous for the Leafs. Just my opinion
donovan1971 1 year ago
@donovan1971 i doubt it, segiun will be a top line centre no doubt, but wont put up more than 70-80 points and 30 goals, and thats best case. they wont get a top 5 draft pick again so who won?
Darionthisguy 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy Boston, i thought I was clear on that? ;-) Seriously though Segiun will learn a lot from Bergeron and Savard (when healthy), Boston has a good learning (curve) system.
The leafs will (most likely) have a new head coach before the playoffs (which they will miss again, sorry but it's true). I'm not trying to troll here but look closely at Burke's resume.........Won 1 cup (with another general managers team) kudoos for ditching Federov's salary in Anaheim. That's it.
donovan1971 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy "Seguin won't put up more than 70-80 points" and you say that like it's set in stone. You're obviously a Leafs fan just trying to justify the Kessel trade, it was a horrible trade get over it. Seguin a better talent and better all around player than Kessel. Did you even watch this goal? the kids 18 and making it look easy in the NHL. Kessel was 20 when he first got to the NHL he played 70games and got 11 goals and 29 points. Seguin will easily top those numbers in his first year
Ih8PorchMonkeys13 1 year ago
@Ih8PorchMonkeys13 That's true but where does Seguin fit in your team right now? You already have a better playmaker (Savard) you guys have no goal scorers at all and that's why the trade hurt you. You'd be much better with Kessel.
SonnyA89 1 year ago
@SonnyA89 No goal scorers? Do you watch them this year?
ACOLLEGECONSERVATIVE 1 year ago
@Ih8PorchMonkeys13 Kessel didnt get the ice time seguin is getting in his first year, after proving himself his first year the second he puts up 36 goals? no way seguin will have 36 goals this year, if ever. ive wacthed him play in plymouth plenty and i wont doubt that hes a talented hockey player, but there is now way this is a " horrible trade". 2011 is going to be the worst draft in the last 15 years, and yea you did get seguin, but thats only cause we had unexpected struggles. it was even.
Darionthisguy 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy he scored 19 in his 2nd year. he got 36 his 3rd
link0zelda123 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy well only TO fans thought it was unexpected troubles. To the rest of Canada you guys did better than expected.
DoYouThinkForUrselF 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy Actually, Kessel scored 36 in his third year, just wanted to point that out. Also, this upcoming draft isn't THAT weak, especially if it's a top 10 pick: keep in mind that the majority of the media is based around Toronto and Ontario, and a big reason they're selling this draft short is because the OHL is lacking this season compared to previous years talent-wise. However, there is still tons of talent to be had otherwise. It won't be as strong as '09, but it won't be horrible.
EnderSoldier 1 year ago
@EnderSoldier it has been touted by the majority of CHL scouts as the worst in 15 years. The OHL is responsible for a good majority of top prospects and the WHL are responsible for most of the rest, the Q is a weak league so theres a reason so much focus is put no OHL. it will be weak, and thats not just one persons opionion, thats mosts scouts and gms
Darionthisguy 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy What you say is indeed correct, but I get the feeling this is going to be a stronger draft than initially anticipated. Some players are stepping up so far this season, the Ty Ratties of the world. Keep one thing in mind: heading into the 1999 draft, the scouts predicted it would be one of the strongest in years. Aside from the Sedins and maybe Havlat, not one first rounder became an impact player. In fact, some have called it the worst draft ever in hindsight.
EnderSoldier 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy Seguin will be much better than kessel.
ACOLLEGECONSERVATIVE 1 year ago
@Darionthisguy Actually, Kessel had 36 goals in his third year. He had 19 in his second year.
EnderSoldier 1 year ago

ShogunGorilla 1 year ago
@ShogunGorilla 'Thank you guys'? I'm not offended by what my team does, nor do I really understand why people like to 'thank' fans. We have nothing to do with the trade, and like any prospect, it's a crap shoot. You got a lucky trade with an inexperienced GM, kudos. Not sure why you need to bring it up. Is it relevant to Kessel? Nope. You seem defensive, considering I wasn't bitter in my post at all. You just seem to think I'm some angsty Leafs fan. Sadly, I'm not... BTW, defense can be taught.

@Essie77 Seguin's not a goal scorer and Boston is hurting without Kessel. He's doing great with us. Thank you Boston!!!LOL
SonnyA89 1 year ago
@SonnyA89 Seguin is playing better than Kessel did at the same age... Also, you say Seguin is not a goal scorer? I would have to strongly disagree... He scored eight more goals than hall did last season in the OHL (48 goals). The kid has a great shot and has already shown the ability to bury the puck at the NHL level ( 4 goals in 4 games in the preseason as an 18 year old rookie). He also has a goal and an assist and counting in the regular season so far.
Bruinology 1 year ago
@Bruinology No I agree completely with you. In the long run Seguin will be a better player than Kessel but as of right now Toronto needs some firepower and Kessel fits perfectly in our roster. He has a wicked shot, i'd say he has the best wrister in the league apart from Ovy. The Bruins need some offence as well and as good a player as Seguin is I seriously doubt he'd be able to fill the gap of a much needed pure goal scorer on your team. Anyways I have nothing against the Bruins, good luck.
