@ariascan2 Personally I don't care for him. What I love about the depiction between John Rolfe & Pocahontas is that this was relationship about being selfless. In this film, John Smith had a girl's infatuation. John Rolfe earned a woman's love. Christian played character as a man willing to put his wife's peace of mind above his own happiness. In essance that's my definition of a prrince charming. My favorite quote from the film is "You are the man I thought you were, and more". Beautiful. :)

Sorry, since I have ancestry from the Powhatan/Rappahannock nations, I'm always upset about the presentation of the Pocohantas story. WHY the ultra strong English accent for Poca? She should be speaking with a tribal accent and dialect even if there are only a few tribal words to throw in. That would be more historically accurrate.

@cefanine i completely agree and i also questioned weather he ever loved her which scared me cause of the how much it impacted me the depth of the relationship they brought to the screen strictly speaking for the movie not the real account in history cause we all know thats not how it all went but i belive he trully did and he just didnt want to have to face his wrong doing a way of saving face rather than admitting to his ambitions you can see some subliminal emotion in his eyes its very--

@cefanine its very subtle colin farrell did an excellent act of composure with just the right hint key factor of yearning in his stare when he says John Smith: I thought it was dream... what we knew in the forest. It's the only truth. n then he ends it with i feel like we are meeting for the first time he may say this cause of the ambient so diff then what they knew and it can go both ways but when she realizes or think him ungreatful and blind for not percieveing all she did for him she bows--

Movie lokks good but is inaccurate. SHe and Smith were never loves or in love. She was his sister. THe infamous scene where she saved from being the war clubs was actually apart of the Powhatans adoption ceremony which Powhatan(father) devised to deal with the settlers : thinking they wouldn't fight with people who were family.That's how his empire got so big-he married 10 women from different tribes, had kids, then she went bak to her home. Matoaka was not an only child-had 26 siblings!

matoaka was captured and taken away from her real first husband...

this is when john came in.

he met her when she was captured and was her "ticket" to getting out.

So she married him...and died at age 21

I think Matoaka/Pocahontas/Rebecca has one of the sad stories in history.

This was a cute video, but where did this come from...like what movie. It's not completely accurate but it sure does beat DISNEY!

Actually, Matoaka was around 15when she was captured . She was Powhatan's favorite so he wouldn't have wanted her to be married that fast to begin with . (no first real husband)

you're right about her being 15, but there was someone that she was "married" to (althought there wasnt really a marriage in their culture, more like a bondage) the guys was one of Powhatan's chiefs, named Kocoum

When she Married John Rolfe she was no less than 16 and no more than 20. The most widely accepted age for her at that time is 18. The Pamunkey tribe to which she belonged, did not have writing and hence no written record of when she was born. She was at least 21 when she died.

Fun fact, couple years after she died the first "20 odd negars" as John Rolfe wrote it, arrived in Jamestown. My ancestors were among that group, and the natives of the area.
