BTW 2003 ALCS “goat” Tim Wakefield pitches 3 scoreless innings for a team that is pretty much out of pitchers. They have to go back to New York where the Yankees were 57-24 during the regular season, which was 10 games better than anyone in baseball. We all know about the Curt Schilling and the bloody sock in game 6 Derek Lowe lights out in game 7 and the rest is history. Love hockey, it is my favorite sport to watch but in the world of sports the Flyers pale by comparison. 'nuf said
The Flyer??? Really? Having lost the previous game 19-8 the Sox were down 0-3 and down to their last 3 outs trailing by a run. Dave Roberts makes an impossible steal of second when the Yankees know he is going to run, gets batted in by Bill Mueller. The hit was off of Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer of the modern era and they win that game on an Ortiz homerun. Down by 2 the next game, they win that in extra 14 innings on a two out single by Ortiz, in a 14 pitch at bat.
@MGoffer Someone seems a little desperate. Mixing sports just to make a point. Regardless of the fact Boston still is a winning city 7 titles in 10 years. Beat that!
@MaxxRedSox beat what? in fact i was at the 2010 winter classic at fenway. you wonna know one thing we had in common?... both us and the bruins fans were chanting YANKEES SUCK lol. the 04 comeback the sox made was amazing. if im not mistaken a team coming back to win a series after being down 0-3 has only been done 4 times in north american sports history. 3 in hockey, once in baseball. the '42 maple leafs, the '75 islanders, the '04 red sox, and the '10 flyers.
@MGoffer You know what I don't even like the Bruins anyway why do I care? I'm not even a huge hockey fan like that. I'm glad that the Bruins lost that 3-0 lead that team and their fans are so damn cocky it's not even funny. I hope they miss the playoffs or lose in the playoffs this year. Let me tell you Bruins fans are sooooo annoying. They are more annoying than Yankees fans. It's that bad.
i remember this series aginst the yankees kurt silling pitch great with a bleeding foot pedro was awesome they destroy the cardinal 4-0 that world series was boring
Not enough love for Mark Bellhorn. Great team player and came up big alot in that 2004 postseason. Shout out to Mark Bellhorn's huge blast off the right field foul pole in game one of the World Series.
The baseball gods say Yankees but not in the Nation.27 championships but nothing came remotely close to what this Nation overcame and I don't think god could have wrote a story like this one.
Brace yourselves Red Sox fans the next championship will be in 2097. How do you lose the series and the season to the Last Place Orioles? How was it in Boston today? Rainy and quiet? I thought it might be.
@xhemexx Ok the Red Sox owned the Yankees head to head in 2011. But you fail to realize that the Yankees still have a winning record against the Dead Sox life time over all. So how is that head to head owning helping you now with the wild card drifting away slowly? Go cry me a river!
@xhemexx Being swept by the last place Orioles on 5/2/10. That is sad and embarrassing. Sigh I guess you won't see another world series until 2097 judging by the way they are playing as of late.
@Surfer041 90% of the 20th century? lol you need to go back to grade school and relearn basic math. and like i just said in another comment, baseball not having a salary cap is such a joke. its no wonder the yankees won so many championships, and look what happens when the sox finally start flexing their wallet, they win championships too. you have teams that spend triple of what others have going up against each other. such a pathetic joke
@beckydo07 they are also the richest and have always spent more money. i know the sox spend a shit ton of money ( now at least ) but baseball desperately needs a salary cap. the amount of championships the yankees have only shows how lop sided and unfair baseball use to be and still is.
@Moman893 ur telling me if you had all this money u would not spend it on good players to increse ur chances of winning a title. Just because u get very good free agents doesnt mean that ur going to automatically win a title . It all depends on how u play and ur chemistry. For example the Miami Heat
@beckydo07 You can NEVER compare basketball to baseball. basketball is MUCH more of a team sport. baseball the only time where you really play as a team is when your making routine defensive plays. but i absolutely would if i had all that money, i love that the sox finally went out and spent some money. but the point is soo many teams can NOT do that..money is such a ridiculous unfair advantage in sports. a salary cap is needed to level the playing field
@HEAD363 Not quite. Don't forget about the Flyers 3-0 series comeback against the Bruins. Then when tehy went down 3-0 in game 7 and came back to win the game 4-3 was amazing.
@Surfer041 No you Idiot. A century has 100 years..starting from year 1, not year zero. Therefore the last century ended when the year 2000 ended.. I suggest you go back to school and take basic math...Its pretty clear you dont understand the concept of 100
@pmdnyc Better team my aSS! How bout that double that tony clark hit in game 5 that miraculously climbed up the wall in right which costs the yankees the go ahead run in game 5. And you wanna talk 07! The Indians 3rd base coach holding up kenny lofton at 3rd when he should have scored the go ahead run in the 8th of game 6. And Torre not going to Rivera in the 8th inning of game 5 (which he always did in the playoffs) But instead letting Tom Gordon who was throwing up in the bullpen!
@Surfer041 Going to Rivera? you had Rivera on the mound with the lead...and he couldnt hold it. so there goes your point there. The Sox were a better team that year case closed. Stop complaining about breaks...you love em when you get em and cry when you dont...typical yankee fan.
@kidkong584 no it isnt, the red sox cameback down 3-0 against their ancient rivals the yankees, to be the first team in baseball to comeback down 3-0 to win a best of 7 series 4-3, and went on to win their first world series in 86 years. The flyers came back down 3-0, to win 4-3, which had already been done 3 times in hockey previously, and the flyers went on to LOSE the stanley cup. How is the flyers series better?
@jayblob716 if you would have looked thorough it, you would have realized that that series along with the flyers playoff run was the most amazing i've ever seen by ANY team, in game 7 the flyers went down 0-3 and came back to win it 4-3. simon gagne was a hero in that series. just watch it please...
@jayblob716 well the red sox were predicted to win that series. so it wasn't too big of a shock that they won. yeah the comeback was suprising but not really anything to brag about. in the flyers, they were predicted to be slaughtered by the bruins. then they came back and just pwnd the bruins. it was really just amazing. how was the red sox comeback better?
@kidkong584 your on crack son. The red sox finished second behind the yankees, the yankees had over 100 wins that year. Not anything to brag about? So the red sox doing something thats never been done before in the history of baseball over their long time rivals is nothing to brag about? The bruins weren't predicted to slaughter anyone, they finished just ahead of phili. And we actually won the championship, after an 86 year drought and breaking a curse. You guys lost in the finals. Congrats!
@jayblob716 Well you seem to be a Bruins fan still sulking from that choke. Actually, I don't think it should be classified as a "choke." It's more like the Flyers worked their asses off and got what they deserved. But Boston was predicted to steamroll over Philly and win the cup. I completly remember that series between Boston and New York and I remember watching ESPN and hearing the one guy say how Red Sox were goin got dominate the Yankees.
@kidkong584 And you seem to be a Flyers fan, whos diluted to thinking that just because his team completed a comeback that it makes it the greatest comeback of all time. The one guy say the red sox were going to dominate? Yea because the yankees hadn't acquired a-rod, they didn't have a full healthy all-star lineup, the red sox hadn't lost to them in 03 in game 7 of the alcs. Nope the red sox had an easy road ahead of them. The bruins finished 5th and had to play miller.
@kidkong584 Considering Miller had just come off playing great for team USA, and our best forward in marc savard was still in a dark room with a concussion, the bruins werent even expected to get past the sabres, never mind win the cup. I have no idea what herb your smoking but let me know where I can get some.
@jayblob716 I'm sorry about that, I wrote that when I was very busy. What I meant to say was that Boston was NOT expected to beat the Sabres, but once they did, they were expected to easily beat the rest of the competition in the east. Red Sox were predicted to win their comeback series. Also, remember the Flyers just barely made the playoffs! (They made it in by a shootout on the last game of the regular season.
@kidkong584 the bruins only finished 3 points ahead of phili, they werent sure if they were going to make it until about week before the season ended. And as for the red sox, its always divided when it comes to sox/yankees. Sure there were people who predicted the sox to win, there were also people who predicted the yankees to win. It wasnt like everyone expected the sox to win.
@jayblob716 Well if you can find someone who predicted the Flyers to beat the Bruins that wasn't a Flyers fan, please let me know. Even I thought the Bruins would win that one. How about we just set it that the Red Sox had the best Baseball comeback and the Flyers had the best Hockey comback? Because Me and you obviously aren't getting anywhere.
@kidkong584 honestly I don't think any comeback is better than any other comeback. The best comebacks are the ones your hometeam makes, I mean why would I care if the flyers made a huge comeback? I don't follow that team so it means little to me. Yet I follow the red sox and if they make a huge comeback then I'll be happy. So honestly its all a matter of opinion.
@kidkong584 Because the Flyers didn't have that great of a comeback. The Red Sox had to rally in two of the four games to win, and both were very close to the end. The Flyers pretty much led in all of the games during their four game rally except the last one and the last one they tied with well over half the game still left. Not to mention it's been done in hockey two times prior to that so it doesn't even automatically clinch as greatest hockey comeback.
@kidkong584 Lastly, (and more importantly) baseball is far more popular than hockey so it's going to be very challenging to convince someone that a hockey comeback is as impressive (esp in a baseball vid) also with the baseball season being twice as long it can be looked at much of a bigger accomplishment than in hockey.
@raidpirate15 You have several facts wrong. The NHL's season is the longest out of the four American Major League Sports. Boston's wasn't as good as the Flyer's, the Flyers had been down throughout the whole series. The Flyers didn't have two of their top scorers (Gagne and Carter), and the better of their goaltenders last year was Leighton, but he was injured, leaving Boucher to be starter. Then in game 6 Boucher had a terrible injury and Leighton was forced to play in his return game.
@kidkong584 omg...you have no idea wtf you're talking about. Baseball plays like 160+ games in season, hockey has 82. Boucher was injured in game 5, not 6, dumb ass. The Flyers were in complete control of game 4 and it was the Bruins that came back in that game and forced overtime and Gagne got the winner. Game 5 was all Flyers and in game 6 the Flyers were given the power play countless number of times and never once trailed in game 4,5, or 6. Get your facts straight.
@raidpirate15 Baseball has more games, but hockey lasts a longer period of time. Sorry for missing the number five. Being that the Flyers were behind 3-0, it was still extremely scary every time someone went down. The flyers were predicted to lose this series, while my teacher at the time that was a yankees fan even said that the sox were probably going to win. The sox had a great pitching staff, what did the Flyers have?
@kidkong584 I recall Bruins players going down as well. Also the Flyers were regaining some of those good players such as Gagne like you mentioned. When did your teacher say that? After game 6? Yeah the Red Sox had good pitching but whose to say the Yankees had terrible? If you assume me to take your word for it then take my word that I predicted the Flyers to win the series during game 5.
@raidpirate15 She said it from the beginning. Actually, the Bruins were getting some of their key players back. One being Savard, who scored in the overtime of game one. I'm saying the Red Sox had a BETTER pitching staff then the Yankees. Everyone I knew thought the Red Sox would win, but when they went down 3-0, everyone I knew was shocked.
@raidpirate15 They were also out of luck with their lead penalty killer, Ian Laperriere. The flyers were forced to kill of several penalties thoroughout that series. The Flyers had the best post-season run of all time. If only it could have ended with a cup...
BTW 2003 ALCS “goat” Tim Wakefield pitches 3 scoreless innings for a team that is pretty much out of pitchers. They have to go back to New York where the Yankees were 57-24 during the regular season, which was 10 games better than anyone in baseball.
