lol, nonono, premier elements pro doesn't exist. Premier elements 7/8 is the cheaper one(the one i have). and premier pro CS3/4 is the one your brother has. lol you mixed them together. and get premier first don't buy the converter first, once you import it into pro it might work but if its anything like the problem i have then yes you will need the converter. although pro will support the HD files it will just lag a lot!
btw, if you're going to get adobe premiere elements or like a good editing system, you don't need a file/video converter. Because the editing probably already supports the type of video your camera takes. For emample, a type a video is avi. Go on the site of the editing system and it will tell you what types of video it supports, and check what type your video does. So you don't need to spend $30 on a converter! =)
