Hyenas are closer genetically to cats than dogs. So I seriously doubt they have that innate loyalty to their friendlies that canines have. Smart, maybe. Trainable? If kept full, sure. Loyal? Sorry, but probably not.

Simply put. a one vs one battle between a domesticated dog, I don't care how big it is, against a Hyena, the odds are more on the Hyenas side. It all depends on the animals fighting skill.

Ridgebacks weren't bred to kill the lion. It does not have the bite force, nor the weight to take down even an adolescent lion.

Of course hyenas have to kill a lion in a pack, any canine would. The only animal that could stand up to a lion alone is a Tiger.

And no, a domesticated dog, could not take out a hyena as hyena's are not domesticated and their instincts are more fine-tuned than a domesticated dog's. Not sure where you get your info...
