@jaydakap Layne always had his soul, even near the end. In 2001 he visited the hospital to go see his newborn nephew. He brought a camcorder and was filming it. His family was greatly suprised that he left the house.
@ItHurtsWhenIPee100 yeah im not saying he didnt care about family or friends, im saying the drug's was so powerful that it stopped him from living he knew he had a problem was close to death and couldnt stop.
@jaydakap yea i knew what you were meaning by that. After the death of his girlfriend, he didn't care about his addiction. Almost as he was accepting his life up to that point.
There's only one Layne but If you've never heard the new lead singer "William Duvall" perform for AIC then you'll want to check out my live videos from when they played at The Gorge in George, WA last year.
Let me tell you, I never believed anyone could ever replace the legendary Lanyn but after seeing and hearing Duvall play I truly had a change of heart.
it so sad seeing layne like this... he just dosnt have the energy or voice as he does in the older stuff but thats just the affects of bein a smack addict i suppose.. r.i.p dude
define real deal? Tool have been consistantly brilliant for a long time. Try and compare any drummer to Danny Carrey. The successful thing wih this band is they have stayed away from any genre. They remain sincere & mastered musicians.
Yea Niel's a machine!, but I don't like Rush. I like guitar, but I hate lead breaks. How a tone or beat fits a mood is more important that skill flaunting. & Danny does it well.
ive just realized how great the early to mid-90s were, grunge and more rock, too bad all these bands now sucks, theyre poppy, the lead vocalist of most of the bands sound like girls (the guy ones),and its all gone to hell with hip hop,but hopefully there will be a rock savior, bringin back real rock
I hardly doubt that moron...Layne was so fuckin cool he could get away with shit like that..some people think this guy was a retard wen on heroin..not true..he performed almost everytime on heroin and he did just fine.
aic..best band ever.. and in reply to AIC69's "how the hell did they just jump from again into we die young? again is in standard tuning and we die young is in drop D" while playing a song its pretty easy just to downtune really quick to drop d.. long as u got the ears for it and im sure jerry and mike do =P
Sounds like Paul & company didn't realize Layne & company shifted to a different song until about 30 seconds after the fact. LOL. They're still playing an intrumental shadow of the "do do do" melody until about 3:21. I'd say they ruined it, but I'll take anything I can get from the original AIC these days. Rest his soul, Layne certainly isn't going to lay any more vocal tracks and Mr. Duvall, good as he may be, can't replace even the sickest version of Layne. Just my opinion of course.
we die young does sound like its higher in this performace...sounds like it to me atleast.ive learned almost all their songs on guitar and ur right, it is drop D, but sounds to me they play it regular in this song.
Scientists have concluded that the only way they could do that is by the use of 'Magic'... They are AIC you have to understand they can do anything...well with the exception of now with that Duvall guy, he tries to hard to mimick Layne and honestly, I've heard better cover bands with people who sound more like Layne.
Layne was one of those vocalist whose music should never be covered. It will never sound right coming from someone else's mouth. He was a true great the way a Marvin Gaye was of his genre. This is not a great performance and it is sad that it's one of Layne's last. I was living in San Francisco at this time and a couple of my neighbors supposedly saw Layne trying to cop in the Lower Haight earlier that day. Even in his condition Layne's talent was obvious.
alice in chains is comin here on aug. 31...and i mean im gonna see them but it wont be the same without layne...but i never had a chance to see him cuz he died when i was only 9 :( rip layne...music will never be the same with out u man
Man I miss this type of rock music. You know what sucks any band that I would have wanted to see live are either broken up or have a member dead. I'll never see AIC live(obviously) in this form, I'll probably never see Faith No More live, and the list goes on and on. Shit!!
Never underestimate someone's suffering. Dope is the worst. His life put him there and his soul was taken. Stay away form drugs. They are not your friend.
nirvana its awsome...alice in chains its awsome...but i like more aic cuz their sound its like more dark depresive and daaamn layne's voice its tssssss just...the best rock voice ever..and the feeling ...damn...i love to feel was he was trying to tell..bout him feeling like hell dying...and that he didnt knew how to be because of that ..how fuckin sad its that??..he was a rockstar but also a human being...i belived it was really hard to live arround friends when u know u r dying
Fucking drug statistic. Its a damn shame...too many ppl doing drugs. Well that's not what makes you cool. Look where layne is now, with all of the other druggies. 6 feet under.
I really miss this band......So unique...Layne was an amazing vocalist and lyric writer.....Can anyone tell me how he died, i know it was some-kind of drug overdose......? just curious...E.C.
Letterman loved that shit huh, "yo!" haha. Layne and Jerry never copied anyone's so called "get-up". they're the ones who were copied! like Lenny Kravitz copied Layne, and so did Linkin Park's lead

i love laynes stance. its the "im a fucking god" stance lol jk. love the song transition also. at 1:32 it sounds like theyres a keyboard in the backround or something. has anyone else heard it? maybe its just the shitty audio
Sadly, Layne was in a bad way by the time this was recorded and this turned out to be one of his last appearances before he disappeared from public view. 'We Die Young' is somehow pretty good though, pity there's not more of it.
Take into consideration they're only in a small television studio that seats, what, 150 people? He'd probably blow them out of their chairs if he ripped those hard notes in "We Die Young."
WTF? There's nothing wrong with this video, EXCEPT for the sound quality! "His voice is really thin"? Uh-uh, Layne was in fine form! Layne NEVER sounded 'thin'!
True. Layne was probably the most consistant singer, in that he was always up to par, in the pocket, whatever. One of the best and most original rock singers.
Compared to performances of the early 90's, Layne really sounded like shit in this video, particularly on "We Die Young." His voice is really thin when he hit those hit notes. Still cool to watch though.
