How do these atheists that don't even know everything that exists in our own solar system let alone the entire universe, KNOW God does not exist?
You can not make positive claims based on a lack of information
Atheists are the most illogical group of people I have ever come across. Its no wonder they believe chemical reactions can create the highly complex cell with over 300 conserved molecular machines
@IDScience Atheists are humans and ALL humans are VERY confused, The Bible tells us why, Satan has dominion over the earth through the will of GOD. Confusion and chaos are Satan's attack. Atheism is something being promoted on TV and other frequencies of airwaves. Satan is also called in Eph2:1 "the prince of the power of the air." It is no coincidence that the expression to alert broadcasters they are being broadcast is "on the air." I enjoyed your logic, praise GOD for your brain.
@NotOfThisWorld567 "The Bible tells us why, Satan has dominion over the earth through the will of GOD. Confusion and chaos are Satan's attack"
I agree they are being blinded by a power greater than themselves, there is no other way they could believe the absurdity of abiogenesis. But I believe this deception is being inflicted upon them through FEELINGS not logic & reason.
Atheists (and liberals in general) are controlled by feelings and not critical thinking
It's okay, Penn. I know you don't believe there is a God and I still love and pray for you. (Mainly because I know you are a smart guy and you may eventually relent that there is no way you can ever know for sure there is no God, since you don't know EVERYthing. You and I both know that it is impossible for a human (even with all humans collectively pooling their knowledge) to know all things. Unless, of course, you are God. Which, of course, you aren't.)
As a Christian, I totally get and respect Penn's point. I am convicted by it, in that I firmly believe in heaven and hell after death, while at the same time I don't always live that out on a daily basis. Too many Christians (myself included) give God a bad name, and it honestly breaks my heart. I vow to love more, accept more, listen more, and judge less. Above all, Christianity is about love - and I want my life to reflect that - ESPECIALLY to those that believe differently than I do.
Jesus says, Matthew 7:21-23, True and False Disciples “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ ”
Seems there will be many disappointed Christians, real or fake?
I wouldn't have a problem with some atheists if you guys didn't think you are Albert Einstein, and attack the Christians so much more than others. I realize their are millions of ignorant, fake and extremely judgmental Christians out there, but there are a few out there who are simply Christian. I guess you guys don't realize you offend the ACTUAL Christians when you mock the fake Christians(not saying fakes shouldn't be set straight but you know).
@nedyahniwre15 "I wouldn't have a problem with some atheists if you guys didn't think you are Albert Einstein, and attack the Christians so much more than others."
Penn, you are an open-minded, cool atheist. I saw your video and I get what you are saying. Thank you for respecting those who believe differently. Makes me wonder why we can't all be like this. Yes, I'm a "believer."
I have no problem with debating religion, if the other person is respectful. And open minded. iam a christian and im open to anything i liestin to atheist and all other religions. I just cant stand when people bash religion it doesn't make me mad it just makes me sad that thats how people act nowadays its sad there is no respect for other people. ): and im not saying that about all people there are some good ones like pen (:
@CHICKENNNNNNNNN I agree that we should all be more respectful. But, I can't tell you how many times christians have said at the end of a debate that I was going to burn in hell and they felt sorry for me. Some even stated that I deserve such. Atheist have heard these messages for years; that may be why they're not always so "respectful" of christians. Atheist have just started to be able to freely express their views without being ostracized or worse. Nowadays, people aren't afraid to speak up
@womanlybassplayer Yea man. "Freedom of speech" and I completely agree with it. Just cause someone doesn't believe what I do doesn't mean i wont respect them. I agree you have been held down from speaking what you believe. And Its wrong for any christian to say that. As Christians we told not to judge, And condemning people to hell is defiantly not what were supposed to do. Only one person can judge us, And Thanks for being understanding dude!!
Penn: If you're ever reading this stuff, I feel I need to ask for clarification.
Did you mean by the video: "If you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that a belief in Jesus equals heaven after death, trying to save everyone around you who you care about is a sign of good character."?
As all these other intelligent people seem to be missing the point, I must assume there is a chance I have too.
Thank you, Mr. Jillette, for your integrity and honesty. I am a Christian and am unequivocally convinced that God offers life after death through his son Jesus, but I cannot stand it when some Christians make all Christians look like fools by spouting off any old tripe with God's name attached without checking their facts and worse, without knowing what the Bible actually says. Your video on proselytizing was very inspiring, and I believe that God speaks through his people. Keep listening!
@sblyde1 Being a Satanist I have little respect for the majority of Christians but you have just earned my respect by showing how decent Christians are I believe that people like you who are respectful, caring, loving, and all that other good jazz are the true christians. I mean this in the most sincere way possible, please don't take it as condescending. I truly and fully mean everything I said above, thanks.
@LogicalBrutality Just wanted to ask, (seriously) what's the point, or attraction of being a Satanist. With your statement to sblyde, you are seemingly a decent person, just wondering. BTW, I am a Christian.
@ffjsb Oh wow heh, I posted this awhile back but the reason why Satanism draws to me so much is because I basically see Christianity as a flawed/contradicting religion. I used to be a Christian but then I realized that with all that is bad in the world "god" made it all possible. I also just don't enjoy the way other Christians around me acted by judging people 24/7 when the religion says to not judge. I feel more empowered as a Satanist. That's just me, hope this explained my insight.
@LogicalBrutality I would agree that Christians sometimes are their own worst enemies. But it's kind of a falsehood that Christians aren't supposed to "judge". They are however called to rebuke other Christians who are in sin. (Lovingly, not being hateful) I think you should go back and check out what the Bible says, don't go by people's actions. BTW, what is your eternal destiny as a Satanist? If you believe in Satan I assume you believe in an afterlife. Thanks for the reply BTW.
@ffjsb Well you see i'm what you call a LaVeyan Satanist basically I am my own god. As in I make my own decisions and never question it. So basically it's the same as an Atheist's views, my eternal destiny is nothing but to live and die. I strongly believe in this and hold it very dear to my heart. So I pretty much live my life up while I have it now. And no problem i'm all for listening to other religion's views. You're welcome for the reply by the way.
@LogicalBrutality Thanks for the info. Here's a site for you to check out my side of it, (without being hasseled by us Christians, lol) it's xenos dot org. Thanks for the adult conversation, it's hard to come by on YouTube.
I like the video more because it's an atheist's point of view. Obviously Christian's are all for proselytizing but after getting the door slammed in your face day after day when you're only trying to tell someone what you truly believe, it's encouraging to know that someone who doesn't believe what you do still thinks it's ok for you to keep pressing on. You do start to feel pretty defeated after a while and it's rather refreshing to hear that someone wants you to keep talking.
I don't slam the door in the faces of the religious nuts who come to my door, but I can tell you that it's not that you're trying to share what you truly believe that's the problem. The fact that you're claiming to know - for sure - things that you could not possibly know is what is obnoxious. You don't know what, if anything, happens after we die any more than I do, but you arrogantly pretend to know. That is why people slam the door in your face.
I'm not sure why you have to refer to people who have a religious preference as "nuts" but it's not appreciated. Also, the fact that you have decided that all people of religion are arrogant is also unappreciated and, according to Webster, a bit arrogant.
Claiming to have special knowledge about the universe that you could not possibly have - not to mention believing yourself elect or chosen - is arrogant and delusional. I live in the US, so you'd have to be a little off to somehow think that someone hasn't heard the "good news" that didn't sound so great. Why pester people? We've heard it before.
I get that the label is not appreciated, but neither is the proselytizing (by anyone but Penn).
Like I said, the whole reason I love this video is because it proves that not everyone has the same opinion you do. And you should really consider the fact that yours and my opinions are not the center of the world. The way you talk about your opinions and how they seem to apparently be the same for all those in favor of your beliefs, it's rather ironic that you call others arrogant and delusional.
But what you just claimed that you don't like is the whole point of this video. That if we believe we KNOW the truth, we SHOULD tell. That's why I appreciate an unbeliever saying this. That not everyone has the same opinion as you.
@Poisinn Hmmm, noodles and Spam, I'll have to try that. Its not spam, its funny. Most believers do worship some form of RAmen. But there's a big difference between philsophical concepts of God and religious philosophy based on blind belief (or social agenda). We could come to terms (politically) with the first, but the second will always devide us because its culturally based.
@666or999-- cool name. What does "obviously present" require? An old man in a robe with a beard walking around, who can wave a wand and make everything perfect? And who's idea of "perfect" would that be? What we don't know will always be more than we can know-- because we are creatures with limited cognitive abililities. Atheists also assume science backs them up, but that was the imperial science of 200 years ago! Read "Quantum Questions". The major physicists of our day are agnostic.
@jamoster Wow, the first person to bring up 'Quantum Questions' nearly EVERY atheist/god discussion video it seems all the comments r from people who've ONLY read stuff pumped out at the atheist market, things like 'the god delusion' etc. I remember reading a physics book that covered the history of physics and it brought up Quantum Interpretations like a 'consciousness-created reality' etc. Modern scientific knowledge indeed seems to suggest that agnosticism is the most reasonable perspective
"There is no God" is a belief based on an over-estimation of the human intellect. I always find it amusing when atheists pronounce "I see no proof...etc." somehow assuming that they unquestionably possess the mental faculties necessary to make a final call on the subject. Can dogs play chess? Yet, you would jump into God's game. Nobody knows; best to admit it and leave it open-ended.
"There is no Flying Spaghetti Monster" is a belief based on an over-estimation of the human intellect. I always find it amusing when atheists pronounce "I see no proof...etc." somehow assuming that they unquestionably possess the mental faculties necessary to make a final call on the subject. Can dogs play chess? Yet, you would jump into His Noodliness' game. Nobody knows; best to admit it and leave it open-ended.
@jamoster We would certainly know that god exists if he was obviously present so it is definatley within our mental capabilities to know if god exists. and before you attack the phrase 'I see no proof' consider what this actually means. It means that this world is indistinguishable from a godless one.
I saw that video a while back and this one was in my recommendations. It's very unfortunate that either that church misrepresented him or that the individual woman in the hair salon is incapable of comprehending what is being presented to her at church. When I saw the video it seemed very clear to me what his point was.
@dreamlink so we shoukd just let all the very crazy people out of insane asylums who truly believe there are imaginary flying monsters telling then to do things because its just there personal opinion right? No. When someone makes a claim i.e. there is a magical fairy man who created the universe an is omnipotent then its your job to prove it true and until you can it remains a fact that no such thing exists. Its not his opinion its fact
You can't technically say "there is no God" when that's you're own personal opinion. My personal opinion Is that their is a God but you don't hear me speaking for everyone saying there is a God. All tho I believe that to be true. It is more respectful to others to say "I believe there is no God" and quite honestly what you said (tho false) just make you sound kinda like a jerk.
@dreamlink100 There is no Giant purple Spider crawling up my leg, I'm sorry, I mean 'I believe' that there is no Giant purple spider crawling up my leg. Can you not see the flaw in your argument?
I say your requiring me to constantly say 'I believe' just makes you sound kinda like a jerk when 'I believe' is precisely what I don't do.
AlanCFA. Because we are all sinners. Romans 3:23. We need forgiveness. Ephesians 4:32. Eternal life is a free gift. Romans 6:23. But it must be received. John 1:12. If not you will go to hell. John 3:36. Revelation 20:15. Ephesians 2:12.
The thing is is that christianity is about a relationship not religion. Many Christians go to church and pray before dinner, but thats being religious. Christ wants a relationship, getting to know him. Many Christians say a prayer at dinner ad attend church but only so they can get a point for the day or a reward from God. But carrying on a relationship with god is wanting to pray, go to church, and reading your bible to get to know him better.
@marrissa88 Marissa, don't get me wrong, but should we be reading the portions wherein God promotes and even commands or helms genocide and the murder of children? Are you *really* sure you want them to delve into the Old Testament and "get to know him better"?
@treymaclin sure go ahead.. also note that God created man put him in Eden and man chose to dance with the devil making Satan the god of this age.. God profesied in Genesis that He would send a savior and throughout the OT Satan did all he could to stop that from happening... lots of bloodshed... but Jesus came.. Just like in the days of Noah before the flood, men scoffed, it didnt stop the flood from coming and your scoffing will not prevent Jesus' 2nd coming!
@gHoStsOfTheHollow If God is omniscient and omnipotent, then God knew man's flaws and choices long before they were made. He also knew Lucifer's choices long before they were made. So we can agree man fell from grace, etc., but let's at least follow through on the logic and admit: Man operated according to God's design. If I create a dog from scratch I'd be responsible for its performance, yes?
dogsiter. I don't have to prove it! Prove there is no God. Prove there is no hell. Keep turning down the free gift of called and end up in hell! As you burn in agony you will then get your proof!
@jacksmack77 Ah, the "argument from ignorance" - if we *cannot* prove a negative then you must be right. Interesting. I, myself, cannot prove that there are giant, purple, undetectably invisible bunnies orbiting Uranus, so it must be so.
@jacksmack77 "Jesus Christ died on the cross for all of your sins." Um... why did he need to die for anybody's sins? Was it because the all-powerful Yahweh, the God of infinite mercy, would not forgive us unless an innocent man was tortured and murdered?
Verily, verily, verily, verily, life is but a dream.
Penn, I understoood ur vid about the bible it wasnt shwn in my mega church (harvest,in riverside pastor greg laurie) but i'll tell u this, what i took from it was that u believe in freedom of speech and u believe that ppl should b allowed freedom of speech about what they believe including athiests and ppl of religion. i pray for u buddy. ur a very talented man.
No God... Interesting concept. So where did Father TRUTH come from? You know, the invisible, eternal, creative, destructive, inflexible, jealous, TRUTH, who created everything, everywhere? Oh, but you think that TRUTH is what you create? Or is TRUTH what you discover? So if you don't believe that TRUTH operating in LOVE is God, then you must believe that you a mere mortal can invent your own TRUTH. Well when you get a handle on immortality, let me know but I doubt you can save yourself.
Well, it's the idea that, religions make it seem that the only way to be good is to belive in a supernatural being thats watching everything you do and if you go along with freethinking and scienctific understanding then you are a harritic and not realy a good person. That is my persception of religion because I went threw it, my church was conservitive and rejected intellectual and ratinal ideals. Dogma is bad, rejecting science for church/religious authority is worse!!
you fuckers have no right to insult atheists, can't we all just fucking get along instead of playing bully on a world of a religion playground? shiiiiit.... T.T
Penn, from the video I watched of you sharing of the "very good man" that gave you "the gift of a Bible," I'm sure other Christians as I saw the way you were touched almost to tears, and I do believe that God is dealing with you. Christians have so much love and are so thankful for all God saved them from...we have to tell others of God's love. I believe you wish to believe you're an athiest, but my Bible tells me there is no such thing. Read Romans 1:19-22. God Bless
"For the truth about God is known to them instinctively; God has put this knowledge in their hearts. Since earliest times men have seen the earth and sky and all God made, and have known of His existence and great eternal power. So they will have no excuse [when they stand before God at Judgement Day.] Yes, they knew about Him all right, but they wouldn't admit it or worship Him or even thank Him for all His daily care." {I'll continue in my response to this post}
And after awhile they began to think up silly ideas of what God was like and what He wanted them to do. The result was that their foolish minds becamse dark and confused, claiming themselves to be wise without God, they became utter fools instead." (This is Verse 22 or Romans 1. Vs 19-21 were shared first.) {This is taken from "The Living Bible" which is paraphrased from the King James Version of the Bible...writen in a language more like we speak today.}

To those who do not believe our God: We have nothing to gain by telling you the truth. God won't love us more (because we can't earn His love and He loves us infinitely already, anyways), we don't get money. We don't become popular, quite the contrary, actually. We risk being humiliated, ostracized and even prosecuted by proselytizing.
Why would we risk all that for a lie? Because you are worth something to us and you deserve to know the truth.
Religion is man made...believing in a Creator who is God and having a personal relationship with His Son Jesus Christ is not religion it is a truly awesome rerlationship with honestly the best person anyone could ever have...Amen
Dearest Penn. I recently have been suggesting to everyone the book titled Pagan Christianity......funny thing is......it's actually a book promoting what a REAL new testament church SHOULD be. I invite you and everyone else with spiked curiosity to read the second book as well... life changing is an understatement for what this author has for any who chose to read it.
Talk about people hearing what they want to hear. His point is clear, If you believe you have information that could save someone form eternal torment you should tell them. That is what he is saying. He is not saying he believes it the claim to be true.

People misinterpret videos all the time. Something gets said and they twist the truth. That sounds like there's a lack of listening skills or pastoral skills. In big churches there tends to be a lot of distraction. To be honest with you, your video about proselytising put me in check and brought me to tears. It made me look at my own life and see if i'm doing everything right--as far as sharing my faith goes--according to my belief system. And, I know it wrecked a lot of people as well. Good vid
Gen 3:1 The serpent was more subtle than any... Sony and Penn are only using a marketing gimmick; that is to pretend to be receptive to proselytizing and to respect Christians who do. Don't be deceived my brothers and sisters in Christ...Penn clearly shows contempt for the Word of God in many of his videos. This is all part of the enemy's strategy he used in the Garden; to question if what the Lord says is true. And he wants you to watch his videos so he can plant a seed of doubt in you.
@barriebrown There is no god. And magical taking snakes? And you believe in them? And you believe in the "fall?" OMG, ever consider maybe opening a non-debonked book of fairie tales for your information about the world? No?
I like Penn's clarity & honesty. Indeed, if one really believes a message, they will proclaim it. The Bible speaks to Penn's statement that there is no God...twice, in fact.
Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." and
Psalm 53:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good."
I am a Christian, saw your video, and knew you were atheist..I'm not here to get into a religion debate, but in the video you even state "I know there's no God" so I feel like the ones who think you have converted did not understand the video..but I can certainly tell you are an intelligent man, and very well spoken, and I am very pleased that you'd give Christians who share their belief so much credit..thanks again
Hello Penn ...I have used your video to lead into a bit of proselytizing of my own to others but I do say you are an atheist. I don't know how anyone can get that you are a Christian from that video. A Christian giving you some materials does not make you a Christian and you saying what you did about proselytizing does not make you a Christian. But me praying for you will do it. I am asking God to reveal Himself to you and help you to understand so you not end up in hell ...but in heaven!!
@Trigunflame I'm sorry you feel this way against Christians or a certain sect. I don't know if it's just Christians though. I'd probably use "mankind" where you have used "Christians". I can't help but to think about Hitler when it comes to holding an entire sect or belief accountable for actions of a few. I'd love to talk plainly and openly to you and anyone else who would like to discuss the topic absent of hatred. My email is bswilliams929@gmail.com and I eagerly await responses.
I hear you jaiden. I have a daughter who was raised in church since she was two, and baptized, which i believed was her choice, now she says it wasnt. But she tells me the same thing that i am stupid for believing that. I told her in a loving way, that it is NOT stupid to believe in God. I am not perfect and i do make mistakes, but i still love God and i am a Christian. I pray for Penn everyday that he will see that too sometime. I do appreciate how he does not put us down and say nasty things.
Thank you for your words on proselytizing. I am deeply religious and have been for many years - God reached me as an alcoholic more than 20 years ago. I am now a pastor (part time on little pay while I work a full time job). I thought it was pretty clear on your proselytizing video that you did not believe in God, yet your words about the subject were still very true indeed. I appreciate your candor.
Thank you for not reacting harshly. I am a Christian and I respect your opinion. I think you are wrong but I respect it and thank you for encouraging those of us who believe that Jesus Christ is our savior to go out and share this most important news with everyone. Please forgive those who did not ask for permission to use your video and for those who may have misinterpreted your remarks.
My name is Eric and there IS a God, but hey, you're a good man Penn and I think people need to quit busting your balls about being an atheist. The only difference between a believer and a non-believer is salvation. A believer is saved and going to heaven and a non-believer simply isn't. That's all. People have way too much pride about these subjects and true Christians will submit themselves one to another. Ephesians 5:27. God bless you all.
That sentence was a little incoherent, but I think I know what you're asking.
People will always say things that you dont agree with or dont believe in. So you live and let live. He doesn't hate my faith he just doesn't believe it. And it goes the other way around for me to him.
I thought your other video made it very clear that you were still atheist but appreciated the kindness of the man who gave you the Gideon Bible. Some people really are dumb.
Penn, your the only atheist I respect, God Bless you man! even though you don't believe you and I still have something in common, we're both Libertarians. lol have a nice day.
@DarkFrostX5 Love your neighbor as you love yourself, eh? And there's only ONE atheist you respect? You're definitely not the light of the world Jesus was talking about.
I don't see how his video is useful in a church setting. Whoop do do, an atheist thinks a proselyte is nice because of his motivation. Who cares. Christians don't look for the approval of the un-believers.
The video was used in my church and in no way did we portray Penn as being converted. The reason I like the video is because of its message more of tolerance. I can't tell you how many atheist say mean, rude and nasty things and tell me I am stupid for believing what I believe and it's generally them that bring up the conversation about God not me. I say "ya I believe in God and Jesus" but they don't even ask me why they just start insulting my intellect say I am brainwashed etc.

Hi Penn fans. Penn Says videos have been discontinued, so you won't be seeing any new content on here. You can check out our Profile on our Channel Page for more info. We'll still be checking in, so hope to keep chatting with you all! Thanks!
Just because we can choose to Believe or not Believe, does not change the existence of God. It is true we can choose to believe Mickey Mouse is God, but that doesn't make it so. The bible simply request us to ask, ask God with an open heart to reveal his unseen presence to you, not question will go unanswered for those that are open to what is true. Asking is a leap of faith many people do not take & their eternity depends on it.
@pennsays why?? i hope he makes more videos or you allow him to, or something... also why do u block the bible videos and other videos in that matter??? reply back plz :-D
Unlike you, I am a Christian. I am a Libertarian because I am a Christian. Also, I thoroughly enjoy your videos. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders and a gift for making your ideas clear to others. Keep on keepin' on.
I would like to let you know that my church, the Vineyard in Cincinnati, showed the video, but they did play all of it and they made sure to say, in a very respectful way, what you do beleive simply because they didn't want any false information coming out about you. I hope you are well.
very cool! I could never really get behind a church until I found that place because they actually go and do the things that so many other churches just say we should do. Thanks for giving permission to use your video, I'm sorry that so many churches decided to misrepresent your theological views with it as opposed to just letting the message speak for itself. I hope you're doing well sir, you seem like a good man.
@pennsays Lmao... You, sir, committed the number one celebrity faux pas with that comment, and it has gone unnoticed for 1 year. You're not suppose to ACTUALLY tell everybody you're not really Penn. I know that everybody else knows that, but at the same time it's like mascots at amusement parks. We know that they're probably sweaty, miserable, 20-40 year old guys in there, but to me... that's Micky Mouse god dammit, and I'm going to get a picture of me hugging him....
@jtwidmer read Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason," believing in God doesn't require a Church. The belief from Zarathustra to Christ starts before the Church.
@dubya3cdotcom Very good book man. Thus Spoke Zarathustra was always interesting to me simply because if nothing matters, then why write about it kinda thing, ya know? But, you have a very good point, belief in God does not require a church. I was just stating that my church respected Mr. Gillete (sp?) regarding his current beliefs, and that to not do so would be very disrespectful. Good thoughts though man, for sure. I may steal that quote though 'The belief from Z to JC" one
Penn, this guy here is going to try to F the ineffable. Atheism is not even a scientific probability. Give me so scientific evidence to suppost atheism? Anybody?
nurbSoldier The existence of God is an axiom. It doesn't require proof. It is self evident. Us and the universe didn't drop out of a storks ass did it? Okay then. Now that that's settled.
nurbSoldier you show probably look up what the definition of an axiom is. An axiom doesn't require proof, it is something that is self-evident. That is what an axiom is.
@Oliver1456: So, your self-evident proof is self-evident. Duh. In other words, you say god exists because you have axiomial faith in it. "God exists" is actually a supposition. You can knit a whole world around a supposition, but it's still ONLY a supposition, and everything else around it collapses. Let's try my supposition on for size... earth was seeded by aliens. I can knit a whole universe around that. In fact, it's the basis for the video game Halo. And I find it much more likely.
I know exactly what an axiom is. For example, 2+2=4 is an axiom. The sky usually being blue in the daytime is an axiom. Objects falling because of gravity is an axiom. Anyone can observe these things. They are therefore axioms.
Existence existing is also an axiom. What is not an axiom, however, is whether some sentient being created it. I know the stars are there. I do not know if someone consciously made them, that I do not have any evidence of.
There is no god, but you do have a deep unshakable faith. From watching the show Bullshit , you firmly believe that market forces will produce the best society. My guess is that no evidence to the contrary will change this belief.
and my guess is from reading your comment, you firmly believe that government force will produce the best society. My guess is that no evidence to the contrary will change this belief. which system then would you prefer? socialism, communism, mixed economy which liberals bitch about constantly? socialism and environmentalism are also religions which is why most atheists are independents or libertarians. "God is the state and the state is God" - you can't take it with you, Frank Capra, 1938
I think you misunderstand what market forces are, netmystique. They are merely the aggregate of typical people buying, selling, trading goods and services between each other.
It is not some sinister horror puppet show run by a bunch of bankers like leftists and conspiracy theorists believe. To say it more simply, capitalism, or an exchange society is people interacting with each other.
I don't believe I stated anything about market forces. However, there seems to be the assumption capitalism == democracy and not having a pure capitalism is a "slippery slope" to despotism. By setting up this false dicotomy, both you and Dave can argue from fear that anything other than your view is immoral and unethical.
I never said that capitalism equals democracy. You put words in my mouth.
I imagine most people with at least a high school education understand that capitalism is an economic system (actually an aggregate of exchanges of goods and services) while democracy is a political system (rule by the many).
Therefore, I did not make any such false dichotomy.
I think your statement that the opposite of an exchange society would be a command society does indicate a believe that democracy and capitalism are the same. That was your assertion. That people will "degenerate to their lowest instincts" is a further indication of equating an economic system with political system. You did not explicitly state that capitalism equals democracy, but the implication is there.
Pertaining to the free markets, look up the assumptions for free market systems.
The opposite of an exchange society (the kind with a market) would be either be a command society or a prehistoric society in which you kill or be killed.
People degenerate to their lowest instincts when they are not allowed to freely interact and trade with each other. They are one step away from animals.
Penn says, there is no God. How could he possably of obtained this information. He could say, "I believe there is no God." Basicly, what he is really saying is, "A race of billions of conscious, sentient beings appeared from nothing. So, I must be wrong. There must be a God, I just don't want to do what He wants me to do, because I want to do things my way." This would make much more sense and would be much more honest if he just came out and said that instead.
Firstly, where did Penn say these things that you're quoting? When you quote someone, it means they spoke those exact words. Secondly, on behalf of Penn's unspoken words, I will inform you that "conscious, sentient beings" most certainly did not appear from nothing. It took billions of years of evolution before we reached what you refer to as "sentient" (or in better words, "thinking" beings), traced all the way back to the first single celled organisms, which came from different molecules
coming together to form the first RNA, which would then become DNA, or possibly through chemical reactions through which life arose mostly from non-life via iron sulfide (not going to go into the details of each theory), but all in a primordial soup that miraculously led to the formation of the first cell. That to me is far more magnificent, incredible, awe-inspiring and beautiful than the idea of some supernatural being with the power to go "poof" and create such a deeply flawed species.
tehlinebeginstoblur I believe in evolution. Normally when you ask a question like: "why do I experience ineffable feelings?" to a person who a person who does not believe in God. They will say, "well it just takes billions of years." And then what? Does natural selection perform miracles? What does natural selection do that makes us all "aware." I'm here. I'm listening. What does natural selection do that makes us all conscious? Don't give me some bullshit about nucleotides either.
@Oliver1456 Are you aware of yourself the same way you were aware of yourself when you were 2 years old? Is it so hard to view ourselves as hopelessly ignorant and barely aware when viewed through our future selves or through the future of our species? How do YOU know you are having "feelings"? The answers are right in front of you. You just refuse to accept them.
"There is no God" Atheist Penn Jillette
"I know God does not exist" Atheist Adam Carolla

As Christians we told not to judge, And condemning people to hell is defiantly not what were supposed to do. Only one person can judge us, And Thanks for being understanding dude!!

As all these other intelligent people seem to be missing the point, I must assume there is a chance I have too.
Please help?

@LogicalBrutality Just wanted to ask, (seriously) what's the point, or attraction of being a Satanist. With your statement to sblyde, you are seemingly a decent person, just wondering. BTW, I am a Christian.
ffjsb 2 months ago
@ffjsb Oh wow heh, I posted this awhile back but the reason why Satanism draws to me so much is because I basically see Christianity as a flawed/contradicting religion. I used to be a Christian but then I realized that with all that is bad in the world "god" made it all possible. I also just don't enjoy the way other Christians around me acted by judging people 24/7 when the religion says to not judge. I feel more empowered as a Satanist. That's just me, hope this explained my insight.
LogicalBrutality 2 months ago
@LogicalBrutality I would agree that Christians sometimes are their own worst enemies. But it's kind of a falsehood that Christians aren't supposed to "judge". They are however called to rebuke other Christians who are in sin. (Lovingly, not being hateful) I think you should go back and check out what the Bible says, don't go by people's actions. BTW, what is your eternal destiny as a Satanist? If you believe in Satan I assume you believe in an afterlife. Thanks for the reply BTW.
ffjsb 2 months ago
@ffjsb Well you see i'm what you call a LaVeyan Satanist basically I am my own god. As in I make my own decisions and never question it. So basically it's the same as an Atheist's views, my eternal destiny is nothing but to live and die. I strongly believe in this and hold it very dear to my heart. So I pretty much live my life up while I have it now. And no problem i'm all for listening to other religion's views. You're welcome for the reply by the way.

You do start to feel pretty defeated after a while and it's rather refreshing to hear that someone wants you to keep talking.
annarose0788 6 months ago 11
@annarose0788
TheSinisterKitty 5 months ago
@TheSinisterKitty
I'm not sure why you have to refer to people who have a religious preference as "nuts" but it's not appreciated. Also, the fact that you have decided that all people of religion are arrogant is also unappreciated and, according to Webster, a bit arrogant.
annarose0788 5 months ago
@annarose0788
TheSinisterKitty 5 months ago
@TheSinisterKitty
Like I said, the whole reason I love this video is because it proves that not everyone has the same opinion you do. And you should really consider the fact that yours and my opinions are not the center of the world. The way you talk about your opinions and how they seem to apparently be the same for all those in favor of your beliefs, it's rather ironic that you call others arrogant and delusional.
annarose0788 5 months ago
@TheSinisterKitty
But what you just claimed that you don't like is the whole point of this video. That if we believe we KNOW the truth, we SHOULD tell. That's why I appreciate an unbeliever saying this. That not everyone has the same opinion as you.
annarose0788 5 months ago
@Poisinn Hmmm, noodles and Spam, I'll have to try that. Its not spam, its funny. Most believers do worship some form of RAmen. But there's a big difference between philsophical concepts of God and religious philosophy based on blind belief (or social agenda). We could come to terms (politically) with the first, but the second will always devide us because its culturally based.
jamoster 6 months ago
@666or999-- cool name. What does "obviously present" require? An old man in a robe with a beard walking around, who can wave a wand and make everything perfect? And who's idea of "perfect" would that be? What we don't know will always be more than we can know-- because we are creatures with limited cognitive abililities. Atheists also assume science backs them up, but that was the imperial science of 200 years ago! Read "Quantum Questions". The major physicists of our day are agnostic.
jamoster 6 months ago

You can't technically say "there is no God" when that's you're own personal opinion. My personal opinion Is that their is a God but you don't hear me speaking for everyone saying there is a God.

Oh, but you think that TRUTH is what you create? Or is TRUTH what you discover? So if you don't believe that TRUTH operating in LOVE is God, then you must believe that you a mere mortal can invent your own TRUTH.

Keep seeking truth, Penn!

Penn,
Thank you for your words on proselytizing.

The video was used in my church and in no way did we portray Penn as being converted. The reason I like the video is because of its message more of tolerance.

@jtwidmer read Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason," believing in God doesn't require a Church. The belief from Zarathustra to Christ starts before the Church.
dubya3cdotcom 1 year ago

Anybody?
Oliver1456 2 years ago
lack of evidence for all god's leads you back to the null hypothesis as most likely what more do you need.
izbo10 2 years ago
You got it backwards. No one has to prove that something doesn't exist. What one has to prove is that God A or God B exists.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago
nurbSoldier The existence of God is an axiom. It doesn't require proof. It is self evident. Us and the universe didn't drop out of a storks ass did it? Okay then. Now that that's settled.
Oliver1456 2 years ago
No its not an axiom. It does not become an axiom until his/hers/its existence is proven.
Therefore, until the existence of a god is proven, the rest of your argument is meaningless.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago
nurbSoldier you show probably look up what the definition of an axiom is. An axiom doesn't require proof, it is something that is self-evident. That is what an axiom is.
Oliver1456 2 years ago
@Oliver1456: So, your self-evident proof is self-evident. Duh. In other words, you say god exists because you have axiomial faith in it. "God exists" is actually a supposition. You can knit a whole world around a supposition, but it's still ONLY a supposition, and everything else around it collapses. Let's try my supposition on for size... earth was seeded by aliens. I can knit a whole universe around that. In fact, it's the basis for the video game Halo. And I find it much more likely.
edgeofblade 2 years ago
I know exactly what an axiom is. For example, 2+2=4 is an axiom. The sky usually being blue in the daytime is an axiom. Objects falling because of gravity is an axiom. Anyone can observe these things. They are therefore axioms.
Existence existing is also an axiom. What is not an axiom, however, is whether some sentient being created it. I know the stars are there. I do not know if someone consciously made them, that I do not have any evidence of.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago
There is no god, but you do have a deep unshakable faith. From watching the show Bullshit , you firmly believe that market forces will produce the best society. My guess is that no evidence to the contrary will change this belief.
netmystique 2 years ago
and my guess is from reading your comment, you firmly believe that government force will produce the best society.
DaveEZ2009 2 years ago
You're bad at guessing.
netmystique 2 years ago
I think you misunderstand what market forces are, netmystique. They are merely the aggregate of typical people buying, selling, trading goods and services between each other.
It is not some sinister horror puppet show run by a bunch of bankers like leftists and conspiracy theorists believe. To say it more simply, capitalism, or an exchange society is people interacting with each other.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago
I don't believe I stated anything about market forces. However, there seems to be the assumption capitalism == democracy and not having a pure capitalism is a "slippery slope" to despotism. By setting up this false dicotomy, both you and Dave can argue from fear that anything other than your view is immoral and unethical.
netmystique 2 years ago
I never said that capitalism equals democracy. You put words in my mouth.
I imagine most people with at least a high school education understand that capitalism is an economic system (actually an aggregate of exchanges of goods and services) while democracy is a political system (rule by the many).
Therefore, I did not make any such false dichotomy.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago
I think your statement that the opposite of an exchange society would be a command society does indicate a believe that democracy and capitalism are the same. That was your assertion. That people will "degenerate to their lowest instincts" is a further indication of equating an economic system with political system. You did not explicitly state that capitalism equals democracy, but the implication is there.
Pertaining to the free markets, look up the assumptions for free market systems.
netmystique 2 years ago
Once again, I never said capitalism equals democracy. There have been plenty of dictatorships and kingdoms where capitalism has existed.
History refutes you.
nurbSoldier 2 years ago

Oliver1456 2 years ago
Firstly, where did Penn say these things that you're quoting? When you quote someone, it means they spoke those exact words. Secondly, on behalf of Penn's unspoken words, I will inform you that "conscious, sentient beings" most certainly did not appear from nothing. It took billions of years of evolution before we reached what you refer to as "sentient" (or in better words, "thinking" beings), traced all the way back to the first single celled organisms, which came from different molecules
tehlinebeginstoblur 2 years ago
coming together to form the first RNA, which would then become DNA, or possibly through chemical reactions through which life arose mostly from non-life via iron sulfide (not going to go into the details of each theory), but all in a primordial soup that miraculously led to the formation of the first cell. That to me is far more magnificent, incredible, awe-inspiring and beautiful than the idea of some supernatural being with the power to go "poof" and create such a deeply flawed species.
tehlinebeginstoblur 2 years ago
tehlinebeginstoblur I believe in evolution.
Oliver1456 2 years ago
@Oliver1456 Are you aware of yourself the same way you were aware of yourself when you were 2 years old? Is it so hard to view ourselves as hopelessly ignorant and barely aware when viewed through our future selves or through the future of our species? How do YOU know you are having "feelings"? The answers are right in front of you. You just refuse to accept them.
