No it was actually written by Domenico Modugno and the original name is: "Nel blu dipinto di blu", and it became world known when it represented Italy in the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest and came third.

By the way the song is now known as Volare witch means "to fly". Dean Martin joust translated it to English and joust sings volare and contare in Italian. Gipsy kings sing the original version.

And I hope that you know that Dean Martin weren't the original maker of the song.
