Most people don't, but some do. We were using a double hook rig with squid.

I just realized that I answer your question wrong. The setup used in this video is a custom Ian Golds 13ft Surf Rod and a Shimano Stradic 8000FI spooled with 50lb PowerPro.

what size circle hook do you generally use for big jacks and tarpon.

This jack was caught on a 4/0 Owner mutu light wire. For jacks, a 6/0 or 7/0 will work fine. For tarpon, depending on the size of the fish. You will want to use a larger hook, 9/0-16/0 depending on the brand of hook.

It doesn't take much in florida, big fish cruise the beach everyday. Just throw some squid out, you'll hook some big fish.
