  • Isn't that a lovely ending! So blue! There is almost a hint of a BBC dance orchestra arrangement in the prominent sax section; Jack's voice, of course, adds to that feeling but I wonder who the arranger is? I must say I've never heard Jack hit such low notes - makes a nice change and he displays a good vocal range. Nice record, laddie.

  • Wonderful thanks

  • After Jack left the Hotel Cecil, Marius B. Winter took over as resident bandleader for a few months. He issued a few records on Homochord, As you say, this is a melancholy waltz, it features a heart-felt vocal by Jack. When you consider what passes for "singing" these days, this is in fact a most apt and reflective vocal and delivered very much with a feeling for the song.

Good to hear a Jack Payne waltz for a change. Always good to hear a Jack Payne vocal!

  • Jack is my favourite vocalist of course. Capable, clear and just himself, not trying to be anyone else AND not trying to be American!.

  • Terrific to hear Payne's Cecil band.Although this is about his worst ever vocal.Great upload, thanks.NB the arched entrance to hotel survives
