@jlya2012 Its just toxic and unusable. Clearing it up without damaging health needs proper equipment and careful handling. Shell should of course be employing the local people to help with this.
Or if they will address the oil leak in the Red Sea as much as the BP spil??

CAIRO – Environmental activists said Monday that an oil spill off the coast of Egypt's Red Sea is continuing even after the government said it had been contained. It was one of the first government acknowledgments that the spill was even taking place.
Fire is dangerous; it burns ppl, buildings, forest, etc. So, what should be the solution for the fire hazard, banning fire or tax ppl when ppl use fire?? The solution is being prudent (careful) with fire.
So all of you who are so HEAVILY concerned about BP's oil spill I ask you "Where have you been for the last 20 years making a huge fuss about Nigeria if you are so concerned with damage to the earth from oil? I also ask you are you now going to show the same amount of concern and horror showing everyone with GREAT ZEAL the damage that is being done to the earth with Nigeria? I suspect you won't cause Nigeria is not looking to pass Cap & Trade nor push 'environmental laws not passed at Copenhagen
Shell has been raping and pillaging Nigeria for over 50 years... and it's not gonna stop.

Let's hope that the devastation in the Gulf will lead to better legislation for those who are suffering in Nigeria.

@jlya2012, . . . . home heating oil. We could use some more CO2s to offset global cooling. ;)

Google the "worst oil spills in history" and look at the map a little way down on the first page. America has a good track record.

The nigerian shari'a-loving muslims waged a war of genocide against the christian igbos of break-away Biafra. Over what? Oil.
So what is new in that god-forsaked hellhole the outside calls "nigeria?" Nothing that this report mentions.
