  • This song was actually written for one of Jackson's "friends", who would stop by his studio and dance to the piano. Cancer later took his life and this song was written as a memorial for him. It's one of my favorites!

  • This was written well before John Belushi's death, so there's no way the song is about him, but it seems to fit for him as well

  • It baffles me, that on a Jackson Browne song... ESPECIALLY one as beautiful as this one.. you can STILL find trolls on YouTube.

  • Sleeps Dark & Silent Gate was written as a result of his wife's passing

  • this song comes directly from heaven,

    this is a message,may be

  • beautiful!

  • wicked scenery nescio235

  • Keep a fire burning in your eyes, pay attention to the open skies, you never know what will be coming down.

  • No, his wife died in 1976, long after he released Late for the Sky. It's for his friend Scotty who died in a fire.

  • recorded this oboe instrumental for PRODUCER JOHN NAGY and my dad's college roommate at TUFTS, DAVID GERNIS when I was 19! SET ME OFF to be JUST LIKE HIM! 1 womb 1 heart 1 love

  • Adam was written for his friend, tis was written for his wife.

  • I love this song!!

  • The song "For A Dancer" is about Scotty Runyon. He was a very talented friend of Jackson's who was killed in a fire in the fall of 1973. Dancing was just one of his many accomplishments. Jackson attended the funeral just days before his son Ethan Zane Browne was born

  • @QueenBeatlesWings Actually, it was written for his wife who committed suicide. He's answered this question on many interviews. "For a Dancer," was somewhat of a good-bye song for his wife and the life they had together...

  • @PaisleyPlace 'QueenBeatlesWings' HAS it right...

  • @carman200l I followed Jackson Browne's career since he began. In a few interviews over the years he has said this song came from the pain of his wife's suicide. The loss of his wife is also partial inspiration for what put him back on the music scene as well when he came out with the Pretender album. I think you need a lesson in music history. It's easier when you were actually alive and over the age of 5 when the songs were 1st performed tho not necessarily put to album yet.

  • @PaisleyPlace do a little homework and seek out the 04Nov96 Paris show recordings... You might also be able to google the show review, re: 'jrp-graphics'

  • @carman200l Your right this song could not have been written about his

wife's suicide of 1976. The album was released in 1973. LOL

  • @PaisleyPlace I have been listening to Jackson Browne since the late 60's and I have heard both explanations - just never heard either directly from JB. No doubt he grieved the loss of both his wife and his friend. Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate is another haunting lyric of loss. I've never understood why people feel the need to be scholars of fact - makes me wonder if they are missing the soul of the music.

  • @mountainhi1 Jackson Browne's wife (Phyliss Major) commited suicide in 1976

this album came out in 1973. It would be impossible for this to be written

about his wife...It was written for a friend who died.

  • @PaisleyPlace Not true. I just saw Jackson one week ago and he very clearly stated that this song was written in memory of his friend. He described his friend and their relationship. Age doesn't always indicate knowledge~as in this case I guess. So thank you to whoever posted this beautiful song.

  • @xbluebarry Your right this album came out 3 years BEFORE Phyliss Major

    commited suicide in 1976.

  • @OppPaul Before she SUCCESSFULLY COMMITTED SUICIDE!

  • @PaisleyPlace Stop correcting everybody with incorrect responses.

"Late for the sky was released in 1973...Jackson Browne's wife (Phyliss Major)

committed suicide in 1976...How could he write a song about a suicide that

took place 3 years later you dummy!!! Look it up under Phyliss Major on Yahoo.

There are a few songs that relate to his wife on "The Pretender" released in

    1976 AFTER she commited suicide.

  • @PaisleyPlace this is true it was write for/about his wife

  • Written for his lover of the time, a dancer

  • @RobinAre3 Not exactly - it was song about a friend.

  • @forcedRcon Not what he told me but then maybe you know better! Happy New Year
