This is a great video, but the editing is horrible. It starts off with commercials and unrelated news story. Do you have the original so I can clean it up and re post it? I would like to use this video, if at all possible...
Over the years I have worked with athletes and mouthguards. This mouthguards jaw dropping results will cost you anywhere from $800-$1600. My research has found that anything placed between the teeth will give the same results. You can even duplicate these results by testing classical music vs. rock and roll. I've done it. No mouthguard is worth this cost.
Effect of a mandibular orthopedic repositioning appliance on muscular strength
J Am Dent Assoc, Vol 108, No 3, 331-333
JW Yates, TJ Koen, DM Semenick, and MM Kuftinec
Three tests of large-muscle group strength were performed on 14 football players from the University of Louisville. A repeated measures ANOVA showed no significant differences between any of the tests, suggesting that the MORA has no effect on muscular strength.
Please do not insult me , by coomparing this appliance to the MORA. This technique is very advanced, we use computerized technology to find the most optimal postion of the lower jaw, to give a person the most optimal strength, endurance and balance. The Mora is for the dark ages, just like the research you have quoted me.
Since we're not insulting one another show me any double blind studies proving by respected researchers other than Dr. Makkar that back up this theory. Anecdotal statements do not prove any validity. Obviously, anyone that invests $30-40 thousand dollars in equipment is understandable going to be supportive of the concept. I do not rule out this hypothesis out of hand, but I need to see concrete evidence. Testimonials fall way short in proving a theory.
Agreed about the debate. I will be interested in seeing the studies. One of the major problems with studies of this kind goes to a perceived conclusion by the individual being tested. If these athletes are aware of what the test is trying to prove, they could possibly relate a subjective position rather than objective position. Unfortunately, if the testing does prove out only the wealthy and professional athletes could avail themselves of the product.
THe athletes have no idea , which mouthguard they will be getting. Your theory could also work the opposite way, the people with the fake guard will try to show improvement, that error has been accounted for also, with baseline data.
Let's wait and see the research, and then comment.
Hello Mouthdoctor I obviously know who Dr Makkar is. My qustion is who are you. As far as im concenred you could be a 16 year old kid living next to Dr Makkar and got in a fight with his kids I am very aware of the Louisville study. THat is one study that tested the Mora on a few athltes My question to you is WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER STUDIES ON MANDIBULAR REPOSITIONING THAT PROVED MANDIBULAR REPOSITIONING IMPROVES DELTOID MUSCLE STRENGTH BY 29% OH Wait a minute your goal here is to Discredit

This would be pretty sweet but no average joe could afford something like that. Show me something a college athlete on an hourly wage can buy.

I challenge you on your statement.
It appears by your statement that you have not read the scientfic literature.
A regular mouthguard makes an athlete weaker. I hope this statement is not coming from a professional with higher education.
show me your documentation.

Here is one actual study:

I agree with you the MORA is a joke!

I love these type of debates. From what I understand the University of Calgary is doing a study that will not be realeased until April, 2008.
Rugters is doing a study which will not be released until Aug of 2008.
AS far as testimonials go, I guess you are saying that you cannot trust the public, in which I totally disagree with.
Be patient and you will see the concrete evidence, I have already seen the raw data, and it is amazing!

Ah! Could it be that Manny Ramirez strength improvement was due to more than a mouthguard.Seems he had some chemical help.
