@GuyGoxx loads up maps faster for sure but as for fps, you might get at most in best possible situation is an extra 1-2 frames per second which is hardly noticeable considering average playability is 30 fps
@psycosquirrel789 Right. The story might change in a year or two, when the price of the SSD drives come down to a more affordable rate. For now the price difference is just too great.
(i think) i got a question...let me understand...someone buys an SSD and replaces it with the regular HDD ?or you just put the SSD in ? i am a little bit confused.
question... would SSD dramatically speed up a system where I have 40+ chrome tabs open, and about 30 iterm windows... and another dozen of support apps which are not as intensive
just got one, I hope this responsiveness is real. I don't care much about processing time, I just want something to happen as soon as I click my mouse.
@nicholasfrank1234 You'll have some issues with drive degradation, the SSD won't perform to its optimal specifications once you start using up most of the space.. But OS X Lion will have support for TRIM.. so if your looking to make that upgrade shouldn't be an issue.. Also would work fine on Windows 7 since they do have TRIM support..
@appleloveTK is it only certain models of macpro that support TRIM though? also even when the space is used up, is it going to slow to mech drive speed?
@cruiser277777 As long as you have a SATA2 ports on your Mac pro then your good to go, also there is now something called trim enabler that you can download to enable trim support for non-intel drives, I've tried it out myself with my Crucial M4 64GB SSD and it works..
So, stop me if I am wrong. Having Macbook air with ssd would be just as fast (or possibly faster) as Macbook Pro with hard drive? without gaming of course.
just consider that the hdd hasn't developed much since the 90's, finally ssd's are coming in but I think they're still too overpriced, and the performance difference isn't large enough, I think they have the potential to make them much faster
@123pawlu Well, I dont encode videos that often :-P Hard drive never really been improoved in speed, becose overall space was essencial. Take me for instance, I know about SSD's for few years now. A fair test showcasing the various aspects of improvements an SSD offers, many a time I've been tempted to switch over to a 64GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 13'3. The only thing stopping me is the absence of TRIM support in OS X and the prospective performance decrease over time due to this. If TRIM or some other performance maintaining technology was present for Macintoshes then I would switch over in a second.
I am planning to buy SSD but i would like to see a test how would it handle multiple VMware running side by side. Can you do a test on running multiple VMware machines?(at least 3 VMware side by side(windows 7, xp and ubuntu)
Hello Steve, I've got a Macbook Pro 13'' Unibody with 2.26 gigs processor and I want to upgrade it with a SSD. I'm not very sure witch one to buy, i think i would like to get the Intel with 80 Gigabytes
For school and in my free time i'm using Iwork 09 (pages mostly) as well as iphoto, imovie and the microsoft messenger.
Also i would like my laptop to be more silent and especially fast. It heatens up very fast. I would love to hear your opinion. Would it be a good infestation?
I do music recording with Logic Studio 9 on a 2.8GHz MacBook Pro (Late 2008, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm HD). I usually record to external FW drive. Have you tested Logic or Pro Tools performance with internal or external SSD drives vs HDD counterparts? Thanks for the video, very informative!
I am not a very intensive computer user, but I use my mbp 13" everyday for school. However, one area that I notice some lag is when I have my iPhoto open it never can scroll very smoothly. I know I can have more than one library, but I happen to prefer to have all my events in one place (about 150 events/approx 27 GB). I have to assume that this is due to the fact that even for just thumbnails, I am well beyond my RAM capabilities. Would this be one area that I should see improvements?
Having such a high price I think I'd rather have an HDD with much much higher memory. I'd buy an SSD and have all the Applications and OS on that, but the smallest size possible, and just have anything else on the HDD, the new iMac can have both.
The thing is the desktop background will change the performance very slightly, so this test isn't as fair as it could be, but it doesn't make much of a difference to worry about it.
but I have a question. The C300 is a SATA 3 SSD, right? But a Macbook has SATA 2, so, obviously, we won't have the 350Mb/s? It it still worth taking the C300, although we don't benefit of the 350Mb/s?
What email should I send to. I am a photographer and I am curious how this RealSSD will improve my performance in Lightroom 3 with RAW photos. I work with roughly 200 -1200 images for portrait and wedding photos respectively. I am curious if this will speed up previews showing up, things like zooming to 100% on 10-20MB RAW files
@dmphoto Let me just point out that there are other SSD's on the market for considerably less....sorry if it seems I'm ruining anyone's business here.

Hey Steve, Please can you clarify something for me, I was told by our local Apple distributer in South africa that installing a SDD into a MacbookPro 13" is not a good idea as it can damage the mac.. Now I find that hard to believe. What has been your and other's experience on this regard?
I use excel to process very large sets of data and use lots of formulas. 100,000's of rows of data using Vlookups would be an example. Would an SSD help speed this process up?
that's cool, but not even current gen mbp (mid2010) can properly utilize the c300's amazingness. first, osx doesn't support TRIM yet(thats across the board when it comes to ssd's), second, right now the sata controller on any mbp is only sata3.0 compatible. the c300 is sata6.0 capable so, until the mbp's support sata6.0, it would be wise of one to just purchase another competitors version cause its not gonna be that much faster. watch watch?v=p_xfoVdM9ic to understand
has micron done anything to reduce the performance degradation over time? if the units are tested, what is the threshold speed of this ssd after been used for many cycles??
I would like to buy an SSD, not necessarily the top of the line as those are expensive and can't afford them, but whats the best price you have for a 80/128GB SSD??
If I ordered a SSd on my new MacBook pro, will it still also have the original hard drive also? Meaning it will have both a hard drive and a SSd? Or would just have a ssd? Please respond. I really enjoyed your informative video
@XXBigJunetownXX I don't think that Apple will ship both the SSD and the HDD to you, if you chose the option to upgrade to an SSD on Apple's online store, they will install the SSD in the MacBook Pro and send it to you.; I'm pretty sure they won't send 2 hard drives to you.
I hope this helps!! >.<"
I really want to get a MacBook Pro with an SSD! If you chose to upgrade, I'm sure you'll have a great experience with your new laptop!
my C300 256GB arrived today and I've built it in my macbook pro i5. And it's very fast! Although I have an very important question: My boot time doesn't improve to much. Actually mac os loads slower. When I push the power button my mac turns on and I get a blank white screen for over 20 seconds and then the apple logo shows up. What can I improve to avoid this? Your mac almost boots up instantly!
Hi, Could you tell me what is different about the 128gb disk that makes the write speed so much slower than the 256gb. I have just bought the 128gb (could not afford the 256gb and even this was expensive. Also disappointed because the write speed of the 128gb is slower than quite a few other SSD's on the market. The read spead on SATA 3 is impressive and the same between both disks so why is the write so different?
@KlashKit The 128gb drive writes at 140mb/s. I get 110mb/s out of a standard hdd and it isn't even my newest drive and it isn't a high performance one. The 256gb ssd appears to be 210mb/s plus which is far more impressive.
im rly not convinced for most thing ssd doesnt seem to help that much not the mention the ridiculous price and space. I mean msot things already loads rlly quickly on comps.
hi Steve, i'm very interested with the C300. my question is where can i get one of those and how much would it cost me? currently i have a 13'in macbook pro similar to the one in the video.
@xxlamtinhxx Thanks for your interest in the C300. You can buy it today from Crucial (see the link in the video description) in 256 or 128GB desities for $799 or $499, respectively.
@MicronTechnology The 128gb version is one of the slowest writing drives out there. Not much quicker than a HDD and certainly nowhere as fast as the 256gb version. Not impressed Micron/Crucial
Ordering for my Macbook Pro NOW thanks to this video. Nicely done. I'm vastly more interested in these real-world-type tests than nit-picking about garbage collection. Thanks for the video!

Ive increased my Ram to 2 x 2GB from to 2 x 1GB and still have the problem.
The apple store local to me seem to think its my hard drive not being able to cope with the demand logic puts on it. too slow with 5400rpm?
WillClarkMusic 1 month ago
How about reading/writing music tracks with logic?
I mean for example the demo disc thats given with the software "logic express 9" is 3 songs by known recording artists.
Ive tried to play one of them with my current hdd but there too many tracks to play at one time so i get a error code come up with system overload.
A comparison of sdd vs hdd of this situation would be a good way to show the performance speed.
Especially since so many people have laptops for mobile recording studios.

Given the fact that the hard drive on the left is a 7200 rpm (which I believe is 5400 rpm instead):
-who is interested in spending more money for an SSD ?
Somebody who knows about computer, prosumers, professional.
-since speed mostly regards people with intensive use of computers, on which files SSD will be mostly showing its advantages?
On Pro Apps and Large files.
-so how can a SSD can ever work on large files since it cannot host any if compared to 750gb HDD due to price/ratio of the 2?

For school and in my free time i'm using Iwork 09 (pages mostly) as well as iphoto, imovie and the microsoft messenger.
Also i would like my laptop to be more silent and especially fast. It heatens up very fast. I would love to hear your opinion. Would it be a good infestation?
Tank you, Tim

I do music recording with Logic Studio 9 on a 2.8GHz MacBook Pro (Late 2008, 4GB, 320GB 7200rpm HD). I usually record to external FW drive. Have you tested Logic or Pro Tools performance with internal or external SSD drives vs HDD counterparts? Thanks for the video, very informative!

@bliss22 it will be bottle necked by the firewire speed

@SwishaHouse7777 Hm true, but I'm wondering if the application's performance will benefit besides a faster startup time.

Does the SSD have auto Trim feature since OSX itself doesn't support it?

...look amazing... but next time, is better if you show the "about this mac" window on both of them...

What are the full specs on both MacBook's here?

nice comparison!
but I have a question. The C300 is a SATA 3 SSD, right? But a Macbook has SATA 2, so, obviously, we won't have the 350Mb/s? It it still worth taking the C300, although we don't benefit of the 350Mb/s?
thanks!

whats the difference between the 400$ m225 256gb and the 600$ c300 256gb?

The big reason I don't buy an SSD for my macbookpro now is that as far as I know Mac(Snow Leopard) does not have TRIM support yet. Any solution??

Would an SSD help speed this process up?
faucetguru 1 year ago
@faucetguru No. If you don't have enough free memory, more memory would help. Otherwise, performance is limited by your CPU.

that's cool, but not even current gen mbp (mid2010) can properly utilize the c300's amazingness. first, osx doesn't support TRIM yet(thats across the board when it comes to ssd's), second, right now the sata controller on any mbp is only sata3.0 compatible. the c300 is sata6.0 capable so, until the mbp's support sata6.0, it would be wise of one to just purchase another competitors version cause its not gonna be that much faster. watch watch?v=p_xfoVdM9ic to understand

If I ordered a SSd on my new MacBook pro, will it still also have the original hard drive also? Meaning it will have both a hard drive and a SSd? Or would just have a ssd? Please respond. I really enjoyed your informative video
XXBigJunetownXX 1 year ago
@XXBigJunetownXX I don't think that Apple will ship both the SSD and the HDD to you, if you chose the option to upgrade to an SSD on Apple's online store, they will install the SSD in the MacBook Pro and send it to you.; I'm pretty sure they won't send 2 hard drives to you.
I hope this helps!! >.<"
I really want to get a MacBook Pro with an SSD! If you chose to upgrade, I'm sure you'll have a great experience with your new laptop!

Hello Stevem
my C300 256GB arrived today and I've built it in my macbook pro i5. And it's very fast! Although I have an very important question: My boot time doesn't improve to much. Actually mac os loads slower. When I push the power button my mac turns on and I get a blank white screen for over 20 seconds and then the apple logo shows up. What can I improve to avoid this? Your mac almost boots up instantly!

hi, I'm joe. this is great Video 5 thumbs up!
I use a Macbook Pro mid 2009 13"MBP 2.53 with 4GB of RAM. Is this crucial SSD faster than the stock SSD you can get in the new 2010 line of MBPs?
Most importantly I am running bootcamp. So am I able to clone the whole mac partition and windows partition at once? Or do I have to do a reinstall.
Most importantly... can it even run windows in bootcamp???
Please help someone!!

Big question: SSD options for Mac are expensive.
Can you replace the internal HDD from an unibody Macbook Pro with an internal SSD ?

Hi, Could you tell me what is different about the 128gb disk that makes the write speed so much slower than the 256gb. I have just bought the 128gb (could not afford the 256gb and even this was expensive. Also disappointed because the write speed of the 128gb is slower than quite a few other SSD's on the market. The read spead on SATA 3 is impressive and the same between both disks so why is the write so different?
KlashKit 1 year ago
@KlashKit The 128gb drive writes at 140mb/s. I get 110mb/s out of a standard hdd and it isn't even my newest drive and it isn't a high performance one. The 256gb ssd appears to be 210mb/s plus which is far more impressive.
KlashKit 1 year ago
@KlashKit really, that ain't that much so maybe you got the wrong drive.

hi Steve, i'm very interested with the C300. my question is where can i get one of those and how much would it cost me? currently i have a 13'in macbook pro similar to the one in the video.
xxlamtinhxx 1 year ago
@xxlamtinhxx Thanks for your interest in the C300. You can buy it today from Crucial (see the link in the video description) in 256 or 128GB desities for $799 or $499, respectively.
MicronTechnology 1 year ago
@MicronTechnology The 128gb version is one of the slowest writing drives out there. Not much quicker than a HDD and certainly nowhere as fast as the 256gb version. Not impressed Micron/Crucial
KlashKit 1 year ago
@MicronTechnology the only advantage ssds give is noiselessness and reduced lag time , it is not a superfast memory drive.
