This is the greatest space war game EVER! Period.

It is a terrible tragedy that due to legal mitigations with the defunct original developer, this incredible game was freezed with the company assets, despite multiple efforts from external developers to acquire the rights to continue this very successful series. At the end of Homeworld 2, it is already obvious that a sequel was planned as the story was very well developed and needed another sequel to possibly wrap up all the many questions left.

Don't hate on Sins it's a pretty damn good game, why does everyone always fight over RTS games? I can understand MW2 vs Battlefield 3 but RTS games are like... all brothers or all family! each one has a MASSIVE AMOUNT of crazy stuff in it, the only other genre that matches it are RPG's.

Homeworld is by far my favorite but Sin's isn't bad either!

i always thought homeworld was better than homeworld 2 - while i do agree both were epic games hw2 seemed to be ... backwards in places.

resourcing and repair - where did your fancy green and orange beams go?

capturing ships - what happened to towing it back to your mothership? - marine frigates were so bloody fragile, loose one and your entire capture op is shafted.

ship design? - it almost looks like they took templates out of the Karos Graveyard for hw2's ships - hw1's ships looked futuristic

I always get a little ticked off by people who talk crap about graphics in the past.

Theyre always too young and dumb to realize not only did computers and console's had less memory speed and harddrive space, (which prevented faster rendering times) but programs like opengl was in its infancy. And even so there's computers back in the 80's that did FAR more with what little they had compared to the wasteful sloppy hack programers of today most of whom dont create anything from scratch.

There has been speculation supported through various sources that Relic has re-acquired the rights to the Homeworld franchise from Vivendi. THQ confirmed that Relic indeed owns the trademark again, making a continuation of the series under THQ's lead possible. However, no comment on future installments was given. SOURCE google. expect a homeworld 3 soon..but not for awhile..

I have to agree with you, while SIns of a Solar Empire may give you that "I'm teh Emprah" feeling, it sucks when it comes to RTS military battles. For some reason, the only game I acknowledge as a RTS space battle game is Homeworld and Homeworld alone.

P.S. Try Complex mod. It doesnt just add few new units, it completely changes the game.

@Yastamba Be more specific. There are a lot of good strategy games but people dont focus on space too much because such games tend to fail and homeworld is one of its kind. If it is space RTS, you can try Sins of a solar empire (some people consider it good (May god forgive me)) or, you can try Nexus: The Jupiter incident which is rather a tactical simulation with no ship construction. If the space doesnt matter to you, then try Supcom (1, not 2) or C&C Series.

and it had some of the best graphics of its time

and homeworld one was released in 2009 ,it was developed at the same time with SC1 but was relased a little later, and unlike the SC universe these games have some of the best RTS space stories

If you're travelling at 20,000 mph in one direction and decellerates to 0 in just a few seconds or turns you're going to go SPLAT.

@Reetrixable its WAAAAY better than starcrap 2 in terms of ships. for a start it has fully 3 dimensional movement, realistic ship designs and proper strategy. Micro management is very small, most of the game being focused on long range manouveres and careful planning. There are many options for attacks and defenses including ship cloaking, guerilla warfare from hypersapce, minefields, defense platforms, long range missile frigates, to close quarters corvettes. Its a very good game if you like it

@Andreware I agree that it is disappointin, but for different reasons, I think this is too different, too fast paced, the first one gives you time to slowly buld your fleet and their formations, this one is too simplistic, and I hate that you enter hyperspace automatically. I agree with Cataclysm being superior to this one.

But when I first got HW 2, I started to hate it from the beginning, "End times because of 3rd core?" oh please we all know the properties of the HS-cores, and they alone don't make apocalypse (weak story). Then we have the mothership with absolutely no cover (where did the Hiigaran fleet go?). They erased the important formations. And my interceptors go for 3 miles away between each attack. Also I cannot redefine the pause button. Etc, etc, etc.

in this game you manage a mother ship and a fleet of warship that follow you from mission to mission in other to save you "newly aquired" homeworld (earth, even if its not named as it, it really looks like it :P). Its worth the cash you'll put on it, if you like strategy games. Its more eye candy then Hmw 1 and cataclysm who are both way more tactical, but you can still make some nice strategy :P
