Interesting but disturbing at the same time. Looking at soldiers personal artifects is very sad. Knowing that many died a violent death. I'm not sure we should be disturbing these fileds of honor unless the goal is to find bodies and indentify them so they can be returned home.
@thebritishww2man Hi there. I think I'm entitled to an opinion on the matter whether or not you like it. All I see are a bunch of dudes digging up spots where men died. I see people digging this stuff up to satisfy some morbid curiosity they have. I then see them selling this stuff to make a buck. The battles have been recorded. How is digging up dead men help remember anything? Let the dead rest in peace. You wanna know what war is like go sign up.
as long as any bodies are treated with respect, (which i very much doubt), then i see no problem!!! some the equipment is becoming so corroded now, it is becoming worthless as time passes!!! good to view it all the same. good job!
i give u guys a lot of credit. to do this kind of work under those very uncomfortable conditons: frigid cold, damp and so very wet is no joke. but at least you have a bar-b-que.
It's amazing how well-preserved the items are. Due to the perma-frost maybe? It's incredible. Even the paper labels of whatever it was are still intact. 8:41 . Btw. the grenades are probably still explosive. This is dangerous! Thanks for posting this anyway, fascinating!
You are a better man then me, my good sir. I doubt I would donate much of that stuff to museums at all, maybe some of it, but I'd probably keep the coolest things for myself.
@SpiroHrvoje1989 the germans used to equip 2nd line formations with captured weapons from all over euroupe and local baltic peoples also fielded a myriad of police battalions that the germans supplied with such weapons to fight partisans so it was'nt uncommon to find a hotchkiss in russia or anywhere here germans fought hope this explains it for you
@1974sharks So many Germans/Russians died and the battles were so huge that huge amount of materials still to this day exists all over russia/eastern europe. For example, Germans defending a artillery position with 500 men, they hear on the radio 1 million is approaching, they would most likely just leave the dead and all their stuff to be able to escape.
@ThePharaohBender Ok, if you put it like that, i can imagine why there still is so many stuff to be found. I think i would run also when i would hear such a message.
Very interesting! Do you also find war dead? I think if it is done with respect- then it is good! It is better to sell things you find to people who appreciate and value these items- than to have a bulldozer destroy the area with the construction of a new industrial park or housing.... just like in Flandern, Belgium. Good job. Es Lebe Unsere Welt-Geschichte!
I do not care about people digging in reg battle fields, but i would be a little more piss off if u were digging in actual battlefield graves just to keep items for yourself and not putting them where they belong.
dude this really makes me want to leave the u.s. to go to europe and partake in the massive amounts of amazing relics you have just waiting to be found
One time, I went to Virginia. I decedied to go to a civil war battlefield and dug for civil war things. Instead, I find a M1 garand and a M1 helmet. Weird or what?
I wonder if these are the stooges who sold me a german grenade box recovered from a battelfield. I bought it on ebay and paid $200 cash. It was never delivered and the seller was delisted when I tried to complain. Be wary buying stuff from Latvia, especially if they only want payment in hard currency. Once bitten...
Good luck. Don't pay if they specify you forward cash only. Use the protection of PayPal. I am still pissed off for being duped and it was about three years ago.
@madness20241 This guy was honest as any. I bought a couple of items from him. He sent perfect items just as pictured. He is not with the guy from Latvia.
I am sooo, envious, I live in the uk, and investigate ww2 aircrashes, but we never have the battlefields like you have in russia , my dream is to one day ,do some detecting with a russian/polish club, as ive never detected a battlefield, only aircraft
don't give ur hopes up! i thought of same things but i recently found several wwi shrapnel shells used for practice in the old military camp site (now my neighborhood lol) i'll make a vid on it soon. try some quick history research, maybe u'll find out some thing interesting like cilvil war stuff or other things like gold :)
Heavy ani aircraft machine gun 7:24 and 75 mm shells at 2:28 make me think that that you were digging outside Oranienbaum right? So this was either 4th SS, 5thSS, 6th SS or 20th SS divisions trench.

Dude, these guys should start offering organized, pay-for relic hunting trips to the battlefields. I'd go (and hope to not be blown up, of course). Can you imagine finding that one SS helmet, all shot to shit?
ehrm not really, most of those grenades are still active, poor state or not. if they explode it is goodbye life or goodbye bodypart. grenades arent relics or something. there made to kill. even after more then 60 years they can explode
