Nice performance but you can tell that the substance abuse was really starting to take its toll on Dennis. He looked a lot better just a couple years before during the Pacific Ocean Blue period. I bet if he wasn't bearded here he would've looked even worse.
They had some serious problems doing this because of Dennis' that day. This is more than one take. You can see where his mouth and voice do not match up, and it cross fades to another take. This has been documented previously. Love the song tho' and feel sick for him.
I'm with MrZob09 and others on this. This tune grabbed me the very first time I heard it. The studio version is mighty fine too. This is the first time I've ever heard it live.
I keep coming back here to watch this video. It makes me happy and it makes me sad. very few times when he was with the band was he allowed to sing lead. this song just proves how wrong the others were to hold him back.
So sad, he had to be one of the most beautiful (inside & out) human beings that ever lived, and he was already broken here. So nice to see this clip, but so sad to see what a mess he'd become. Still his heart and the music shined through it all. RIP Denny 27 years today : (
Thank you so much for this upload. Not nearly enough quality live videos of Dennis singing. So much soul this man has. I hope he's found peace, wherever he may lie....
@denniswilsonfan We are very very alike in this way. Both 'Baby Blue' and 'Angel Come Home' were the jems, for me, on the LA Album. I had someone squirt the album to CD for me years ago. Both songs are diamonds.
Brilliant. Beach Boys LA had some great BBoys music on it. It was prob their best of the 70s imo. Dennis Wilson...great rock voice and the soul of the Beach Boys. rip.
What a beautiful song...remembering our Beach Boy, Dennis. Our angel.
Taken to make the stars shine in the sky...taken to make the rays shine from the sun...taken to make the waves glisten like diamonds in the ocean's surf.
I'll be in Heaven when my angel comes home...such beautiful lyrics..
@Helen25243 give the guy a chance . he probably had been pounding the drums before this tune, plus dennis loved booze and women before a gig, and it was after midnight too. so i think he looks great. oh yeah, dennis was a genius too.
@skcuswtm Oops...that's right! Carl (RIP) also did the beautiful 'The Trader' on the 'Holland' album. 'Sail on Sailor' may be (with Ray Kennedy) Brian's last great piece.
This video was part of the "Midnight Special" about The Beach Boys in April 1979. I watched it myself during my Florida vacation in my hotel room in Miami Beach :-)

@LLB61959 - are you kidding? He had a fantastic voice, even when ravaged by drugs.

This is a great song, sad to watch in a way though, just 9 or 10 years previous to this, Dennis could easily have been the band leader.

How brilliant would The Beach Boys have been if Dennis had been the frontman instead of Mike???

Dennis didn't write this one, Carl did...but a perfect choice to sing the song. Probably his last great moment with the boys or solo sadly enough.

@MrZob09 Actually, the song itself is written by Carl Wilson. But it is great indeed.

Great video of a long-forgotten BB song.
Loved that there were still parts of the group who were trying to produce new material (the Wilson Bros...Carl and Dennis).
