Unfortunately the more "humane" treatment of farm animals isn't very pleasant either - less unpleasant yes. As long are there are people who can't afford to buy the meat from more "humanely" farmed animals then they will buy from industrial farming. And all of that tasty fast food uses industrially produced meat.
You are right though - it might be better to eat the flesh from the "humanely" treated animals. And yes dairy produce sadly necessitates making cows pregnant and killing calves.

Stun it with what, did you see that village, its probably somewhera in africa, the most some of them have for a tool is a machete and a rock. They dont have money for guns or stunning devices. Animals have been harvested for food like this for thousands of years and its worked, its not the best way buts its the cheapest and requires the least tools, just rope, something sharp and a few extra hands.

last time i was knocked unconscious, it was not a nice, painless experience.
If i had to be slaughtered like this poor cow, i would prefer to have my throat cut than to have my brains bludgeoned into oblivion. when done correctly, it's over rather quickly. the second the carotid artery is cut, no oxygen can get to the brain, and unconsciouness comes in seconds.
Also, if done correctly, the knife is so sharp, the animal can't even feel the cut.

9 billion humans though could survive without industrial farming and without industrialised dairy production. They / we could even survive without meat and dairy all together. Dariy is a difficult one because it necessitates keeping cows pregnant then killing the calves so that we can take the milk for ourselves. Industrial farming techniques as you know are often cruel - as is dairy production.

Unfortunately the more "humane" treatment of farm animals isn't very pleasant either - less unpleasant yes. As long are there are people who can't afford to buy the meat from more "humanely" farmed animals then they will buy from industrial farming. And all of that tasty fast food uses industrially produced meat.
You are right though - it might be better to eat the flesh from the "humanely" treated animals. And yes dairy produce sadly necessitates making cows pregnant and killing calves.

i'm glad you see that being vegetarian can also contribute to animal abuse. My wife is vegan, I eat meat organic has been my choice I know not every one can afford it but home cooking is cheaper than fast food so that makes it affordable. the regulations with the certified organic label are more strict I'm sure some producers slip by but for the most the animals are treated better. thats my contribution to the animals and it also eliminates many unwanted chemicals & hormones

Yes, there should be more indepth study to see just how much each of us contributes towards animal abuse. There could scale developed so we could then each see just how much animals abuse we each cause. We could each have / be able to calculate our own animal abuse footprint - be we meat-eater, vegetarian or vegan. It would be both interesting and valueable to calculate our own animal abuse footprint don't you think? Every single thing taken into account I mean - diet, what we wear, our work...

of course I think it would be interesting to see a study on our animal abuse footprint. the problem is that random demographics must first be identified in hopes to eliminate bias. example. california culture may have less animal dependency than texas. also the factors are so many and making a quantitive representation such as 1 chicken = 3hr of driving or simpli eliminating the ambiguity of what abuse may be to the one researching. the concept is definitely intriguing though.

Humans are omnivores when they choose to eat meat and non meat. Humans have a choice. Lions, etc, do not have a choice because they are their nature. A human who stops eating meat become a herbivore. So to say that "humans are omnivorous" is speciffic to those that eat meat and other non meat food. We have a choice. And that choice is more important now that there are nearing 7 billion of us - because industrial farming is intensive and brutal - even where it is practised at its best (Sweden).

In Sweden, for example, the state has implimented many rules which are adhered to. It's still brutal - but not as brutal as it is in the USA or a whole host of other countries. Look at the treatment of battery chickens, and other animals kept penned up. Look at how birds are reared and killed. Look at the videos out there on the killing and the treatment of animals of all types. You know it goes on. I knew it went on. We hide ourselves from it. And they hide their production methods from us.
