Holy headshakes batman. About that tire pressure thing too. Do you fill your tires up with nitrogen for track days? I think I read somewhere (I've never done it) that if you fill your tires up with nitrogen for race days that the nitrogen won't expand when your tires get really hot thus keeping pressure constant. Don't know if you've worked it out yet, but just my 2 cents.
I did have a damper at the time, and of course they cure the headshakes (see my Beaverun vid for a headshake pre- damper), but dampers can actually make wobbles worse. See the earlier post regarding the tire expansion as the suspected culprit. If I hadn't retired, a sprocket mod would've been up next on the list of upgrades...
Nice ride. Thought I noticed a little rear wheel slip at one point, although I might have been mistaken. Interestingly you're another person who uses the "solid" shift light, I never notice the damn thing if it's set to that mode but everyone else I talk to prefers it!
That wobble ruined my summer, as it was hard to isolate (not to mention scarrrry). The Dunlops noticibly changed diameter at 100+, and I think I had went up to 190s as well at one point. Bottom line, the combination was enough to change the geometry of the bike to introduce a wobble at higher speeds.
wow! 190! thats awesome! thats so weird though that running a larger tire in the rear would produce a wobble while speading up. I noticed it did it previous to the big wobble at 1:48-ish. It's not like you have a bend in the rim cuz you would have problems in corners. i'll have to pass the vid along to a few guys i know, one races in PA, CCS? i think. very interesting moments there. it never caused a wreck for you did it? hope not! rubber down
No wreck, but a few pucker moments. Unlike headshakes that you feel you can ride through, the wobbles leave you with the feeling that it's only gonna get worse. I low-sided a couple of weeks prior, and I even had the frame checked to see if that was the cause. Thats when the techs informed me about the noteworthy tire expansion at speeds. Went back to 180s and no problems...
What the techs said is right. The faster you go the more heat the tire generates. This temp increase will affect the PSI of your tires. Different tires/brands run better and worse at different PSIs. Ask around the paddock what other guys using your tires run their PSI at. Play with it a little yourself up and down a couple PSI. There were some good line passes in there. Good video. Good tunes.
Thanks for posting this video! I'm supposed to be going to VIR this coming summer to drive, wanted to see what it was like. Awesome job with the riding too, those were some very good lines.
on bike vid's dont need background music. If you must have music at least let it b something other than weak matrix type shit....fail

that was a nasty wable. do you have a damper.?
you are good in the turnings but you need more torque I saw the other riders pulling away mostly on the outer apex, try a sprocket!!!just an idea...
but your good..good job!

Shift light? Is that what that is? JK...but I don't use it. Just coincidence in this case...

what was with the wobble from about 1:58-2:01?? rear wheel slip may have been at 2:55 when coming over the hill; right hander
nice vid

Nice one. I think i was there for that trackday too. 1:47 laps in heavy traffic is pretty decent. Did not see any CRs in the vid, is this A?
jbraslins 4 years ago
Correct, it's A. From your vids, you'll be in A shortly if you aren't already. Just remember to keep the rubber side down...
