  • Good to see one of these at work, those massive packers are tough to find nowadays--wonder how they're doing as a company? Great to see on their site that Loadmaster still makes this model! Also gotta love CCC. How old's this unit? Early 00s? Awesome work on this, can't argue with tripod footage. If only mine worked/allowed me to pan without it sticking...

  • haha That packer blade is just awesome, has to be the signature of an older Loadmaster, I guess apart from the "LOADMASTER" sitting on the packer hydraulic :P That monster blade is priceless IMO, can't miss the jaws on a truck like this!!! Really looks like the actual sweep becomes half of the carrier plate when it's closed too. Also I noticed the packer stopped around 4:18 and 6:35 as they drove off - I take it that's because the engine reaches a certain speed? Awesome footage as usual George.

  • Havn't seen an old school Loadmaster in nearly 30 years, now these are the RL packers we grew up with in northern Va.

  • Wow, fantastic perspective on this footage! Surely enjoyed this, and I'm sure you enjoyed watching them in action in person! Just...wow!

  • The plate cylinders are 7". This beast will consume anything thrown into the hopper. I operated one back in the mid 70s on a residential route with unlimited collection. It packed as much as the 2R and ejected the load in one smooth stroke. No need to shake the blade like you have to do on the newer bodies with the inverted ejector cylinder. As I've said before, this would be my first choice if I were to buy a rear loader.

  • @streetcleaner0 Thank you for the correction! The 1982 spec sheet indeed shows 7.25" x 16" sweep rams and 5.5" packer rams. Too bad they got rid of the claw-like ribs on these new models...the ribs gave gave the old ones a much more menacing look.

  • The plate cylinders are actually 7". This beast will gobble up anything thrown into the hopper. I operated one back in the mid 70s on a residential route with unlimited collection. It packed as much as a 2R and pushed out the load in one smooth stroke. No need to shake the blade like you do with the new ejectors with inverted cylinders. I agree that the hydraulics need to be faster but this big dog will run with the best of them. This would be my first choice if I were to buy a rear loader.

  • I have not seen one of these in action since December, 1983! For those of you unfamiliar, this is actually a fairly new model of a true classic. You can see the CRT Loadmaster album for what the old ones looked like. These are still in production today by Loadmaster of Michigan. The awesome crushing power of 6" diameter sweep rams! Many consider this better than than the 2R, which puts it in damn good company

  • @ClassicRefuseTrucks I look at your website once a week! It's great!

  • My nominee for video of the year! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!

  • very nice camrawork!

  • George you may have outdid yourself this time.. this is amazing footage! Great to capture such a rare truck on route!

  • Nice video George. I think you or Shadofax has the videos that I first watched when I started watching garbage trucks on Youtube :)

  • Great job on the video as usual! You always impress!

  • GREAT VIDEO ! 5 / 5 star, yeah shure is an old beast of a truck, great to see it in action !!!!!

  • Amazing footage! I really like this truck (from filmers aspect)however I thinkIwould hate it if I had to work on it. The blade is so big, and moves slow, I think I would lose my mind if I had to deal with that daily.Still teriffic post, and I hope to see more.

  • @mtr82952 It sure is a slow blade, but it sweeps a huge hopper. It would be a big improvement though if they gave the hydraulics a bit more speed, like Leach did with their late model 2RIIs and 2RIIIs.

  • Awesome work and really outstanding footage and quality. LOVED the old truck. :)

  • Great footage

  • thanks for posting. that is a gigantic packer!

  • What a huge packer and old truck. Love it. =)

  • That packer is MASSIVE! I was just wondering yesterday where you were! Here is my answer! Your videos are better than ever! This was a great video to come back with! Good old manual collection video! Can't say how much I enjoyed seeing this beast in action!
