Blind Willie McTell's music is still alive..that's all that matters...Thanks to all those talented musicians who recognized his talent...This is more than Mr McTell expected after his death...All he ever asked was for some flowers to be laid on his grave.
covering blues classics is what blues artists do. John The Revelator (another track the stripes has covered) has been done over Tons of times. In the same way that bards used to tell their version of old stories, so too do musicians do their own renditions of the old songs of the culture. the songs (not just the artist) begin to develop a legacy of their own
Yeah well, the two versions are almost 70 years apart. I'm just amazed that McTell's music is still present today, and I'm sure glad The White Stripesare contributing to keep Blind Willie's music alive.
Well yeah blind willies version is better but it is bcuz its ORIGINAL duh but atleast jack is one of the few guitarists tht is playing those old blues tunes. Wait a min........ Hes the ONLY one tht does!
Run through the scale of G as well before getting back to A. Great song to play.... I cant say why but its almost always the first song I play when I pick up a guitar
A good cover of a great, great song. He doesn't play it as quick as Blind Willie McTell, or use the same chord changes - but still give the same great vibe.
I love this song soo much. " The one in my bosom she lives in Tennessee , but the one in my heart she dont give a darn for me." If this wasn't a cover , that line would be so haunting. Sorry, I'm one of the fool's who think's he still loves her.lol

It's so eerie how similar Jack's and Blind Willie McTell's voices are. Isn't it?

Jack has said in an interview that he's considering releasing an album of the early b-sides. If that sees light, it will probably end up on that.
