I think it is completely reasonable to conclude that the root of this hatred from the serb and croat side is based on their embarrassing medieval period. While bosnians were running the ottoman empire and having sex with the daughters of the sultans, serbs/croats were busy maintaining washrooms consisting of two bricks and a hole. This is why every croat propaganda story begins with a fairy tale from the past because the reality is much harder to stomach.
The irony of todays croats who actively preach fabricated myths about the make up of the bosniak nation is that they themselves are not who they think they are. These so called croats are in reality 'hrvati', who were slaves of the original non Slavic croat tribe. Once it was evident that these 'hrvati' were useless peasants, the croats abandoned them to the Hungarian Empire to become pawns; this is why the checker board symbol was imposed on them by their new masters Hungary.
