  • Not really, just shooting lol.

  • Nice but was there a point to this video? Did I miss it?

  • YEAH I Finally bought mine for 150 came with an extended butt stock and a 2-7x32 scope. First day I fired 25 rounds and got hits on pretty much every one. I LOVE this rifle

  • I Finally brought home my Model 91 /30 this past weekend. BUT not before putting about 25 rounds through it. AWWW The feel of a M-N recoil

  • Very nice.

  • Hummm That's an interesting pedigree, Me I prefer cooler weather and at one time, would not mind the COLD as I spent 4 years in North Dakota, Courtesy of My Govt, And learned how to manage cold weather conditions. BUT now that Im getting on in years, while I still like cooler weather over the summer. The REALLY cold weather does not appeal to me as much. WOW 200 yards. I would love to be able to shoot that distance

  • @mesquiteguy1221

Yeah I guess the older you get the harder it becomes to deal with the cold, mother natures way of thinning out populations I guess. 200 yards with a 7.62x54r is just breaking the ice my friend! this round is of equal power to a 30-06 so roughly lethal out to1400 yards, my rear sight adjusts to 2000 meters so your launching your rounds from a 25 degree angle to target at that distance that would be a challenge, like throwing a baseball at 2600 fps lol thanks for the comments.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 Well what i meant is that I do not currently own a rifle so I don't have that ability. the few times in the past that I have shot a rifle that I owned at the time. I was just getting good at 50 yards. I like the M-N, and have had a couple of the M-38's However I have a friend of mine that has a 91/30 that he is going to sell to me this spring if not sooner.. I already have som ammo for it and can not wait to get out and go shoot it.

  • @mesquiteguy1221

It would be a good idea to reload your own ammo if your going for accuracy, Most of the 91/30's you will come accross have had 1000's of rnds put through there barrels and they loose there grooving and become larger than .308 I use 174 gr .311 bullets by seirra to compensate for the loss of space and get much better results, I use surplus for target shooting at my range that is when I can find it just make sure you clean your barrel real good after time you shoot surplus.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 That would work for me IF I had that ability. BUT thanks for the advice just the same. THOUGH my brother might be able to help me with that. Will have to ask him about it. He buys and sells old rifles such as the M-N and is pretty meticulous in his choices, Of course, I have a bottle of cleaner that is designed just for the Mosin's and SKS that I bought a while back. It has seen little use and is stored carefully. And has never failed me in the past.

  • B.T.W. What was the distance you were shooting that day, And how well you do with it being so cold.

  • @mesquiteguy1221

200 yards, I shoot just as well if not better in the cold as the barrel cools much quicker than when it is hot out, I have a european background, irish, polish, ukraine, dutch german and I was born in Canada cold does not bother me at all, I actually prefer winter over summer.

  • Akk that was missing here was the hammer and sickle on the RED FLAG...(yeah I know its for wind directions) And an WW 2 era Sniper Suit. LOL PERFECT

  • @mesquiteguy1221

Thanks it is our range is hot flag blowing actually, and it was filmed in niagara falls canada area lol.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 Your welcome, OK so I misidentified the flag LOL I've been to Niagara falls last winter it was frozen over BUT still a pretty cool site. And i've been to Winnepeg Canada, YEARS.....AGES....Ago. Also a very nice place to visit.

  • @mesquiteguy1221 And my sniper suit is actually a wal mart special mossy oak winter coat lol.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 HEY that works just as well too.

  • i should invest in a scope i cant hit crap with iron sights

  • check out me shooting my mosin nagant

  • does it have to be a certain kind of scope or could it be watever kind

  • how the hell did u get a sight on urs?

  • @kickme83

LoL I have the tools to do it, a little fitting, cutting, machining, threading and it was perfect when completed I ordered my mount and scope from a seller on ebay who is located in the ukrain and they were made at the same factory as my rifle.

I also load my own rounds for this rifle it is extremely accurate for a rifle built in 1942!.

  • Hello

  • God damn I love the 91/30.

Where did you get this and for how much?

  • I <3 my 91/30! Cool video

  • What did the target look like and what was the distance?

  • @almfoto

It was a steele gong at 200 yrds

  • I found one for $125 at a pawn shop. I checked the action of the bolt, and it was smooth. Would anyone reccomend it? Thanks

  • @gamerfourm217

Check the bore and barrel for any pitting and rust, and check the thickness of the rifling. If that's all good, then go for it.

They are absolutely wonderful rifles. Dirt cheap, extremely simple, tough, and that 7.62x54r packs a hell of a punch!

  • @VHOBSESSED78 The 7.62x54R is nearly a duplicate in ballistics for the .30/06. The rimmed round makes it easier to get headspace correct, but makes for more difficulty in feeding for machineguns.

  • @VHOBSESSED78

I have been using Remington bore cleaner for my rifle and I must say guys it is doing a hell of a job of cleaning all the years worth of gsr out of my barrel Just a patch and a good run through and repeat until its clean, then do your solvent on a patch, then a oiled patch and finally a dry patch.

If you want to use a bore brush with the remington bore cleaner go for it I am suprised how well it cleaned it.

  • @SHAUNMAN79

Rem. Bore Cleaner is good stuff, but I'll let you in on a trick to totally degrease these rifles.

Shoot them until they get extremely hot, then break them down and scrub them. The best thing to get rid of cosmoline is heat, and just shooting the rifle works wonders for clearing it out.

  • @VHOBSESSED78

Done that many times over my friend, next on my list to to re-blue everything.

  • @SHAUNMAN79

Just tossing it out there for anybody who is wasting their time covering their old surplus rifles in kerosene and brake cleaner lol

  • I love my 91/30 Мосин Наган (mosin Nagant) killed my first deer with it.

  • I want one of those scopes for my 91/30 but it cost more then the gun.

  • @gamerkid1177

    $170 for the rifle

    $114 scope

    $60 mount

    $30 for the bent bolt

You can build a large claibre high powered well respected sniper rifle for under $500 and a little elbow grease not bad.

I always have people coming up to me to ask questions about it at my local shooting range.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 Where d you get the scope for that much? I find them for sale like at $200 to $300

  • @SHAUNMAN79 I payed 110 for my 91/30 then 270 for the Authentic PU scope and 50 for the bent bolt but yeah It was worth any penny

  • @LittleMooCow22 Good deal man! did you install it yourself? I bought all my stuff off ebay.

  • Great demo of a great rifle. I just saw a rack of these this weekend for $147 each!.. Standard , with iron sights only... but anyway :)

  • god i love firing this gun. sounds amazing and sure packs a punch.

  • You should try loading your own then! packs more of a punch than standard S&B that I have purchased and the .311 HP's are bigger in diameter than the .308 if you want the load data let me know and I will post it.

  • @SHAUNMAN79 Yeah sure! I've heard loading your own can be alot stronger. I'll have to look into it.

  • In the exact order I do

Ok step 1: you need to clean your brass I use a drill press and shell holder that attaches to a drill, grab a bottle of BRASSO! some rubber gloves and a face cloth, spin the round and then use some paper towl to buff it up, take the round off and clean the bottom and rim by spiining it in your hand then buff with paper towl, This will give your round a mirror finish!.

  • step 2: Have a tube of case lube beezewax whatever and lightly coat your casing hope you have a set of 7.62x54r 3 die set? I bought the lee it is good enough first die is the sizing die and deprimer pin you might need a couple try's to get it set to the proper length of the neck or it will bend your round if too far down so test it high to low until the die sizes it to the bottom of the neck I even spin the round while doing this to ensure uniformaty JIC,

  • Step 3: Size the length of the case with a case length tool, put the round on your drill press again and insert the tool inside the neck and down until the pin hits the case holder and spin until it stops cutting at 2.100 trim I use a micrmeter to check the brass this is a perfectly sized length and width case now one more thing use a case neck deburing tool to cut 45 degree angles on the inside and out side of the case mouth just a quick spins 1 sec each side, This casing is ready for a sniper

  • Step 4: Loading that shiny peice of metal, I use winchester large rifle primers for this load insert round in press and load primer into pocket slowly but with pressure until it seats well, if you cleaned the hole out good it should slip in with ease also due to the pockets edge being polished,

  • Have some IMR 4320 powder and some Sierra 174 Gr BTHP

(.311) diameter I have got up to max load 46.5GR but I would take this - 10% and work your way up to 46.5 until you feel pressure then you know your getting close to max more always does'nt mean better depends on your rifle

  • grab a case funnel att your charge place the round in your press with your bullet seating die and seat the round use your micrometer the check the length the rounds total length should be 3.000 inches long. Last die I use is to crimp the neck very lightly think of when you used the neck deburring tool earlier and it cut a 45 degree on the inside of the neck now by very lightly set the depth until you feel the tip of the neck touching,

  • one small turn of the die and now bring it up then down turn the round to ensure uniformaty around the neck this will crimp the very tip of the 45d degree inside the neck of the casing flush with the bullet DO NOT OVER CRIMP! your pressure will rise!

  • If you reach max load of 46.5 IMR 4320with a .311 Seirra 174gr BTHP your round will be travelling down range at 2550 ft/s from muzzle reaching a distance of up too 1400-2000 meters max with a penetrating power of 2,513 ft/lbs.

Hope you guys found this information useful just passing it on and thanks for watching!.

  • I love canada, but fuck sometimes I wish I lived in the US so I could purchase a nice vintage auto thompson. OR an Stg44, or a BAR, or jsut any kind of AR for that matter. That moisin nagant sound is beautiful though.Probably sent the Wermacht packinga few times.

  • For Automatics in the US you need a special permit. Semi-Auto however you don't, and there's a nice Semi-Auto Thompson on the market that sells for $1500-$2000. As for the Mosin, youtube videos don't do the sound justice, they are awesome sounding in real life.

  • @Scioneer Out here in Kansas u don't need a permit you just need the cash and you got your self a auto.

  • mine is a 9130, 1942 mn! awsome gun!

  • I got one from a store called dutchmans. Its a short drive away. They have browning 1919, thompson, saiga 12, and the list goes on and on. They have an incredible stock of weapons.

  • i have one of these m91/30 rifles. got it for $89. great rifle.

  • i would really like to see someone hit anything at 1400m with a PU

  • Mag30th comes close.

  • I dig the crumping sound this rifle makes when it send lead downfield. It was dubbed " The grim reaper of Stalingrad " during WW2.

  • Does anyone know where I could buy a mosin nagant that has the PU scope and bent bolt handle?

  • There is a website called j ang g sales. they may have some still left. Good luck.

  • okay...i'm getting this exact model with PU scope in exactly 20 days....

and enemy at the gates is one of the best movies ever created...about russians

  • LOL

  • I think j&G sells these for around 400.00.. I have the 70.00 version. great gun for little money.

  • @ca919a: the rifles going for that price are replicas...regular 91/30's with bent bolts and modern, repro scopes. Still fun to shoot but no historical value for a collector (not saying that makes it a bad rifle.) The genuine PU snipers are getting more scarce and go for at least $800. Probably a good investment.

  • @hibob841 PU sniper scopes were mass produced.

  • u better hope its authentic and not a reproduction

  • yeah...i hate it when they are counter board or Mismatching parts when i Buy one..Thats Y I check when i buy one.=)

  • Its better to have it counter bored and shoot great, than not counter bored and shoot terrible. They counter bored them to restore lost accuracy from worn crowns due to improper cleaning methods.

  • or have an original that already shoots great!.like the ones we have.xD

  • Yeah, I was just showing that the counter bored ones are counter bored for a good reason. One that still shoots great without counter bore obviously was taken better care of when it was cleaned and wouldn't need to be counter bored.

  • I bet you love enemy at the gates. So what kind of scope setup do you have, and how much did it cost? I ask because I've been considering putting a scope on my m38, but I don't know where to start

  • were do you buy 7.62x54mmR ammo its such a bitch to find

  • try and find BROWN BEAR website it will tell you a place close to get the ammo for the mosin BROWN BEAR = CHEAAAP $10 USD FOR A BOX OF 20 :D

  • cooly o good to know

  • I can buy one of these for $84.99 at the local gun shop!!!

Note: without scope and curved bolt.

  • Mine was $100 dollars it came with a case and two packs of ammunition. Not to mention a BAYONET!

  • did you buy a local place?

  • No, I bought it while on vacation, it's with me now, but the store isn't nearby.

  • enemy at the gates is disturbing....not the war parts..

  • it's shame to put a scope on a beautiful rifle

  • To each his own.

  • dude these rifles cost under 100 bucks over here

  • Got mine for 70, and I love it

  • yeah I have to say there deffinatly the best deal right now.

  • ? ok that made no sense at all...

  • how do you figure he acts like there collector peices or something and they wont be for a while.

  • ya didn't understand what u just said

  • where do i get one?

  • check auction sites

  • wonderful rifles, pity that the pu scope and mount costs 3 times as much as the rifle itself.

  • Try searching Mosin Nagant Scope Mount in google

  • does anybody know a cheaper scope to put on this rifle because the pu scope is to expensive

  • Theres mounts that you can replace the rear sight with and you could add a long eye relief scope that way,not as impressive looking as a PU sniper but still will work

  • yes look online for the pso-1 scope it is a more modern russian scope that is great for the mosin,

  • i just got this gun and have not shot it yet

    how hard is the recoil?

  • have you shot a rifle chambered in .30-06?

if so this should feel about the same... the cartridges are very similar.

  • I taped a sock around the metal butt plate to keep from getting a hickey

  • ouch

  • Mosin's love the cold weather. they were made for it!

my Mosin was made in the same year as yours, except it's the carbine version of the 91/30. (1891/59)

  • whats a carabine?

whats the diff between your gun and this one?

  • A carbine (prnounced CAR-BEAN, not CAR-BINE) is basically a rifle with a shorter barrel. Traditionally carbines shoot at slower muzzle velocity and lower power cartridges, but most carbines are developed from rifles (like the M1891 carbine, or the M4 carbine) and use the same cartridges as the rifles they are derived from, and their muzzle velocity is almost the same too.

  • Burrrr I hate the winters. lol

  • I have modified my m44 to be more shooter friendly and more accurate. How can I extend the barrel? any help would be appreciated.???

  • i just got one today, neat old gun. not much recoil and its accurate as hell. the ammunition was surprisingly cheap for a high-powered rifle, only like 40 cents per cartridge. the only thing that irritates me about the mosin nagant is that you have to pull the trigger back a little farther to fire than on some other rifles.

  • :D

i want one so bad, does anybody know if this site is selling the real deal

    its RGuns . net

  • Is it possible buying on internet an M91 with a scope filled on it? And how much does it cost?!

  • Yes theres quite a few places on the internet that sells them-a repro is about $350 and an original is about $600.

  • Sorry Sasha, do you know which web site selling the M91?

  • $600? i got a restored one that says it was made in Russia in 1943 from a gun store for less than $200 including the ammunition.

  • Restored--the process is it was desnipered after ww2 then someone in America cut the stock, added a PU scope setup, either welded the original bolt or replaced it with a modern repro bolt.Or it could be one of the current repro PU snipers comong ot of Ukraine that their adding repro PU setups to standard mosins or desnipered mosins-200 dollars is a good price you got one at! $600 is for an original sniper that was used in ww2 and still has its matching scope/mount etc...

  • ci ho sparato!

  • Can you please tell me how you scoped the gun the gun dealer said it was impossible and wanted me to pay another 115 for a diffrent gun

  • All you have to do is buy a Nagant scope mount and a PU scope, but the original PU scope is kinda hard to find.

  • They can be found easily but are getting higher in price-a good condition refurbed PU scope/mount will go to $300+ an unrefurb in not as good condition will go about $170

  • just different bolt is ok.

i've got my genuine ww2 scope with mount from ukraine for about 150 quid, that guy must have found whole box of them somewhere in russian army barracks

  • Be careful though,Ukraine is selling alot of repro PU scopes that their claiming to be found in old warehouses that were shutdown after ww2! The serial# on the repros usually start with NЧ and the screws on the adjustment knobs on the repros are flat unlike the rounded screws on the originals!

  • would you have any photos?well,i've asked few my mates who collect this stuff much longer than me and they said they think it's original ww2

  • I do have some photos of fakes and originals-if youd like I could send them to you.

  • Don't scope one. It ruins the history of the firearm. Spend the money for a real one.

Besides, if you do scope a regular 91/30, the gun won't be as effective. The non-snipers were built to lower standards. Use the iron sights.

  • are u kidding, not bein rude bud, but the old 91 30's were used for sniping with the old pu scopes man.

  • Only the ones built for that purpose. The regular infantry rifles weren't.

You can tell the snipers because they will have a place for a mount, or they'll still have the mount. If its just an ex-sniper its basically the same as the infantry rifle. The serial numbers also give it away.

  • Show that veteran some respect, kids.

  • would this be a good gun for hunting game like deer and coyote?

  • You can effectively take down anything that walks the earth with this rifle and calibre 308 I reload .311 rounds and seem to work great! Moose elk wanna go elephant hunting? rhino perhaps? with the right bullets you can penetrate anything at the right distance with the right ammo! thanks for the comment.

  • thanks for the info. nice rifle by the way.

  • I just bought my Mosin Nagant m91/30. Bought it with my 16th birthday money, its a fantastic gun. It only cost me 91.00 it was on clearance. It bares the soviet star emblem and has seen action. It has 4 notchs on it, probly took at least 4 lives in ww2. Great gun, thanks for posting this vid!

  • Nice shooting. Just picked up my M91/30. I also own the M44. Great firearms.

  • hey i have a question. i went to the range the other day and whenever i went to eject the shell it wouldn't even eject most of the time. i dont think the interrupter/ejector isn't far enough into the chamber to hit the rim of the shell. any tips on fixing that or should i just get a new interrupter?

  • Take your bolt apart and check the ejector if you need to hammer it in a bit you can do it.

  • k thx

  • You actually really don't need hearing protection with rifles. The gases expand out through the muzzle which is farther from you than a pistol. Despite pistols' smaller cartridges, the pressure would be harder on your ears. I've shot 1000s of rifles rounds per many years without hearing protection, and I have no hearing trouble. However, 1000s of pistol shots per year w\out hearing protection will give you trouble.

  • Tell that to the metal roof over my head at this range, the sound bounces off that and comes right back down at you, using hearing protection here is a must! Especially with my m44 Mosin 7.62X54R is a large round.

  • the smart thing to do is to wear hearing protection and eye protection at all times when using any fire arm. Well exept maybe for a .22 rifle. It's just good practice to use the proper equipment, regardless of anything else anyone may tell you.

  • last time i went to the range with out "plugs" or "muff's" my ear were ringing for about an hour and a half and went home with a very bad headache, i only let of 40 rounds too. will never forget my plugs again.

the carbines are definitley louder than the full length rifle.

  • oh yeah, what type of ammo are you using??

FMJ's or sporting? very hard to locate 7.62x54R sporting rounds in australia, dont know why but it is.. unfortunatly this means i cant take my nagant to the local range as FMJ's are banned from the range.

  • uzi554: It really depends on what kind of rifle you use. Newer rifles expel the propellant gases more efficiently and are less loud than say a Mosin Nagant M91.

I would definitely recommend hearing protection for this rifle.

It it can and will scar your eardrums.

  • I sometimes wear ear protection when firing my mosin's but sometimes i like to hear the loud BOOM!

Could you imagine in ww2 with hundreds of mosin's firing at once =0

  • yeah sometimes i like to hear the mosin's distinct sound but only if someone else is firing and i am at least 20 feet away.

Our ears are very delicate. Alot of people say they dont use ear protection and they dont have any hearing damage. that is quite subjective and i am 100% sure that they have suffered considerable hearing damage without noticing. You dont just go deaf. You lose certain frequencies continually until you cant hear a wide range of sounds. :)

  • yes correct - it probably comes on slowly and they dont even know it!

  • until they turn 50+ years old and they cant hear someone yelling directly into their ear. lol.

  • Comrade, please do not continue to fire without using hearing protection. My ears ring constantly. I'm 56. Back when I was a kid, we shot without hearing protection. When I was in the army, we never used hearing protection back then. I served in combat in Vietnam in both infantry and artillery. I've hunted for years, taking shots in the field without hearing protection. My ears ring constantly. My ears are ringing right now as I write this. Please, wear hearing protection.

  • You must have lost your eye-sight too - he IS wearing hearing protection.

  • rterwilliger: "You must have lost your eye-sight too - he IS wearing hearing protection."

Actually, it was a reply to USSRsniper who wrote: "I sometimes wear ear protection when firing my mosin's but sometimes i like to hear the loud BOOM!"

Those comments appear further down. There's no need for insulting language -- "You must have lost your eye-sight too..."

  • thanks for the info, I was just headed down the same path.

  • I once fired a .45 colt single action revolver without plugs. my ears rang for what felt like 3 days straight. I keep several pairs of plugs in my glove compartment, ashtray, and trunk. I will never do that again

  • higth weapon!!!

  • You need to clean the storage solution out of it, its called camlone? A real pain in the ass to remove. I have the M44 and it was real hard to work the bolt, now its so easy you can use 2 fingers to open and close it.

  • It's called cosmolene. It is both heat and solvent sensitive, so using hot water can melt it out in instances that solvents can't be used. Soak your entire disassembled bolt in boiling water, clean and repeat. Many rifles also have cosmo in the rear part of the reciever locking lugs, which makes it harder to chamber and unload a round. Getting a good plastic 12 ga bore brush into the area just behind the chamber where the locking lugs go can clean it out.

  • I also have one of these. With millions of M91/30s and piles of scopes available, importers have smithed them together into a "sniper" package deal. They're not original or numbers matching (obviously), but done pretty much to original spec with the bent bolt, P/U scope and mount right out of the box.

I bought mine a year ago from CenturyArms for $290ish and it's worth every penny. The "kickass per dollar" ratio is through the roof

    I bought on

  • Did you buy the rifle with the scope and bent bolt? Or did you do that yourself? And if so how much did it cost?

    P.S. cool video

  • Big-name importers have them for around $340, bent bolt and scope attached, ready for action. See my post above.

  • I havent done much research, but you can buy kits and such to do it your self. They are cheaper and the parts to replace the one you screw up are even cheaper.

  • How did you get your bolt to operate so smoothly? I have lubed and filed down the parts on mine that have them ost friction it helped but its still very stiff, especially when I push a round into the chamber.

  • Hi every time before I shoot I use 10w30 on all my parts, Also if you are using surplus ammo I wipe them down with a oiled rag then wipe them dry just make sure you shoot them that day or the oil may foil your primers but it seems to work for me good luck.

  • That simply amazes me how effortlessly your rifles action works, mine is stiff and unweildly.

  • beautiful rifle i wan one, how munch they cost?

  • The mosin without the scope only costs around $79 to $89,it's the scope that's expensive,$200-$300,usually closer to $300.

  • thanks men!!!!;)

  • Well that's rifle and scope, on top of that you need to get the bolt grip bent down 90 degrees, that adds a bit more.

  • If you want an original mosin nagant PU sniper rifle that was used in ww2 it will cost you about 800 American dollars - they are well worth the money though

  • do any of you know if the russians ever made a 7.62x54 ammo that is NOT corrosive? seems all i'm finding is corrosive.

  • Just load your own! it is the best way to produce very accurate loads yourself. Go buy a couple of boxes of brass and your good for a while, just keep trimming them. Dont bother sizing them they will eventually take the shape of your chamber then you will have loads customed to your chamber = better pressure and less slits!

Want some nice loads? use .311 instead of .308

extremely tight going through my barrel so I dont use as much powder.

  • Anyone posting here know where I can get a good, cheap PU Scope w/Drills and taps

  • Hi I got my whole set from ebay, less than 1 week from the Ukrain seller A+++ original mount with markings matching my rifle scope may be original but non issued. It would be a great investment buying a standard and metric tap,die set! good luck hope your good with tools?.

  • Nice video - 5 Stars

  • Thank's man!.

  • I've got an M38 (carbine). Nice rugged rifle. Bore's in shitty condition, though. It came with two ammo pouches. I'm sending away for some stripper cl
