Well I'd have to get back to my mentor on whether or not that was proper technique but one thing, Aiki-Jujutsu where it all began, Hapkido, Aikido, etc. I'm a hard core lover of Korean Hapkido. All though right now currently involved in Aiki-Jujutsu which is pretty much the same are just from the Japaneese aspect.
this would depend on which lineage your hapkido comes from. Ji Han Jae's lineage for example is more like aikijujutsu blended with korean striking techniques. whereas Choi Yong Sul basically just taught Aikijujutsu. (hapki yusul)
Remember that the Choi Yong Sul, founder of Hapkido was adopted by Sokaku Takeda during the Second World Ward. And Sokaku Takeda was the Sensei of Morihei Ueshiba (founder of Aikido), Kodo Horikawa (Kodokai), Seigo Okamoto (Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai), Katsumi Yonezawa (Bokuyokan), Yamamoto Kakuyoshi (Yamamoto-Ha) and Takuma Hisa (Takumakai). The Soke was a real important man!
Looking at aikijutsu makes me smile as it proves that aikido and hapkido are indeed brother martial arts. what people do not realize is that the Choi Yong Sul (founder of Hapkido) and Morihei Ueshiba (founder of Aikido) actually knew each other. Choi even contacted Ueshiba's son to give his condolences when Ueshiba passed away.
I just watched a Hapkido video of a school that does these same techniques. Wierd, UH, Hapkiyoosool is the posters name. I can see so many connections to Daito-Ryu from Hapido actually. -->un-Biased Japanese here! :)
Saying aikijujutsu is for war is an understatement. Aikijujutsu is that special skill for when you're getting attacked by a gang of armed and armored goons. In my opinion, Aikijujutsu is not as physically-devastating as Atemijujutsu which is the striking of nerve points to stun the attacker before the Aikijujutsu finish.
So true. Aiki techniques look nice, because uke knows his ukemi and he's given some room. Otherwise can end quite ugly. That said, why should one restrict onself to aikitechniques?
aikijujitsu is circular just very small circles. looks totaly fake, but Ive been tossed on my ass by these guys. It takes forever to learn as the techniques are so subtle. but seriously painful. this form of aikijusjitsu is meant to restrain people not beat them into submission. As I was told when I was traing it, it was what palace guards were taught. Much of it is performed in a sitting position as everyone would have to sit and was not allowed to have their heads higher than the emporer.
yea of course aikido is very harmonical because ueshiba studied more under a shinto master, onisaburo, who made the spiritual part of aikido(or the biggest part because there is even daito ryu philosophy).takeda made the tecnic one of aikido but effectly daito ryu is more efficeant because it was used by samurais in mortal duels
You cannot assert that Aikido would be less effective in a battle unless you actually compared the two in battle. Aikido, in it's present form exists because of the current state of culture and civilization. We have handgun defense in our dojo because handguns are a common danger today.
Yes Aikido itself would not be effective in battle. But, defence agance handguns would not be effective in battle ether. Yes, In your Dojo practice handguns defence for civilians. However, It's not COMMON. What is COMMON is verval attacs which may convert to fisical fight. If your Aikido can handle that your traning is effective if not you are likely to get defite.
Realy, your Dojo is better because you have handgun defence?
A truly MARTIAL ART will say practice, practice. Are you?
aikijutsu is also more linear than aikido. However both can be linear and circular. Also in aikido after the aikidoka submits the uke they stop. The Aikijutsuka will finish the job.
Almost everything in aikijutsu is circular, not linear. The main differnece between the two is the defenders intent. In aikijutsu we intend to do harm and finish the attacker. In aikido they intend to protect themselves without doing harm. Our techniques are more violent with throws aimed at making the attacker land on their head and techniques such as the kote intended to break the wrist and elbow and dislocate the shoulder not, as with aikido, to be used as a throw.
Ueshiba did not explain to his students how to perform Aiki, he just used the term "kokyu" or breath. In daito there is a whole technical theory to explain Aiki as it relates to Forces in nature. Okamoto Soshi of the DTR Roppokai teaches these secrets openly..Ueshiba held them for himself. Keeping his Idol worship status amongst his students
Aiki-jutsu...is a warrior art form...a bugei/bujutsu, and was used as an actual combat system for almost 1000 years. Aikido, is the philosophy of aikijutsu, minus the battlefield, combat aspects of aiki-jutsu. For many...aikido is a religion as opposed to a martial art, and Osensei is revered as a deity.
so Aikijujutsu actually more lethal than aikido ? I still don't really understand what is the difference between both discipline, can anybody explain it to me ? Thanks in advance :)
Not necessarily. There is a hanzi (kanji) character difference between "-jutsu" and "-do." The former emphasizes technique, and the latter emphasizes the philosophy as a whole.
The reason why I said not necessarily is because there are still some schools of aikido that espouse technique foremost in their philosophy as opposed to qi (ki).
yes, aikijutsu is more violent. jujutsu is for war. aikijutsu is a nickname for daito-ryu jujutsu. when something is a "do", it's a spiritual path and isn't directly about war, but self-development. "jutsu" means art and is strictly defined(usually). Really, by name alone they're both the same. but the meaning given to the names IS different.
They are the same, but the founder of Aikido removed or modified the techniques that he thought would injure the attacker. He created a "pacifist" martial art that is designed to protect YOU without hurting HIM. Other than that, they are the same.
aikido basically removed things such as arm breaks, wrist breaks and striking back for practise and philisophical purposes, but in a real fight these happen anyway and aikido turns into aiki-jiujitsu unless the practitioner is of sufficient level. And even then they may choose to strike or do a break should they see an opportunity.
This happens to be copywrite infringement. This is a video by Aikinews put out in the 1990's.

Aikidoka here. I did a bit of Aiki Jujutsu at a seminar recently and really enjoyed it, especially the groundwork!
I think I may take it up in future, or perhaps something almost entirely groundwork based - BJJ maybe.

The founders of Aikido and Hapkido were students of Sokaku Takeda, thats why some techniques are the same.

arguably its more devastating. a vital point will hurt, maybe knock you out...kote gaeshi would rip your arm off.
