  • I prefer this series to the US version. The voices sound more correct.

  • I used to love this when I was a kid... I have collected all the Annuals since 1967 and now my 6 year old son is collecting them.

  • @suzvijay9 Do you have a rare 1973 Rupert the bear annual where he has a brown and not white face lol. these are worth up to 30k. get looking. has to be 1973 though and brown faced.

  • @MrDjc1970 I shall definately go and check. I have a 1972 one with a brown face. The rest are in my mum's house. must go and check. Thanks :)

  • @MrDjc1970 I shall definately go and check. I have a 1972 one with a brown face. The rest are in my mum's house. must go and check. Thanks :)

I also have a 1967 (year I was born) with a brown face.

  • @suzvijay9 go check but it has to be the 1973 year with brown face as they made only 15 copies. best of luck as you could be sitting on a rare gem.

  • What year was this??

  • Amazing. Looked this up to show my 4 yr old daughter the original Ragetty - the little blue turnip headed freak that used to scare kids! He's now portryed as a cute friendly elf - BOR-RING!

  • I thought this was made by Gerry Anderson's wife, if so maybe they hold the rights.

  • WHERE CAN I GET A DVD?, i had a look & cant find one, i also want MR ROSSI on DVD

  • I like the cartoon.

  • I'm blessed, the lady that wrote and sang the theme tune is a good friend of mine and I loved this programme!

  • thanks so much i often recall this programme i loved it. its so like the old rupert annuals a little dark an scarey.

  • I forgot what a pig, Potchy was....Inicdentally, Rupert's voice is the same as Joe 90

  • I need to ask why exactly they thought the lady needed to narrate everything that's going on when we can SEE what's going on.

  • omg they look scary lol. i prefer the cartoon

  • email, network dvd, they have clopper castle on dvd from the same people ,they have so many itc programmes from the 60s and 70s if this were this case why were all the other itc programmes lost

  • Gosh yes this was my favourite TV programme when I was a little boy! And I loved the tune as well. I've not seen this since I first started school! The quality still holds..and it's on proper film too.

  • wheres Raggerty!!!?????? the tree dweller!!!

  • He was found guilty of arson & is doing a five year stretch in Pentonville.

  • Frightening, the stuff of childrens nightmares.

  • lol so true :)

  • oh thank u, thank u, thank u. it has taken my almost 3 decades to catch a glimes of the 70s Rupert, and here i can see a whole freekin episode, bless you and youtube

  • Beat you! I'vebeen waiting 40yrs just to hear the lovely theme tune alone! I'm with you,joy to watch it again[tear rolls down cheek] Cheers youtube!!

  • i must say tho, there's a lot a stuff that id never thought id see again if not for you tube, or the internet for that matter; i literally feel as tho im travelling back in time;

Grand kids are just the best arnt they?!

  • Rupert when I was younger.Childrens television was a lot better in those days.

There were some good shows up to the late 1980's.

All we get nowadays is not half as good.

  • not seen this in a long long time....great stuff

  • The last time I saw this show was 38 years ago. Those were the good old days. Those were the days where children did not shoot their parents and their friends and their teachers and so on....

  • What the hell is THIS? I remember it being a cartoon!

  • This is from way before the cartoon.

  • hughes051, do you have a close up of that wall paper? I think I used to have the same.

  • Sitting a few inches from the T.V. with marmite soldiers and a boiled egg. Wow! The happiest I can ever remember being. Better than E!

  • This is the first TV programme I can remember (I'm 35) This is the first time I have seen it in colour. Thanks for posting!

  • Terrific post hughes051. One of my fave shows from when I was a kid (Im 37 now)!! I used to watch it in B&W on my grandparents Baird TV!

  • 70s eh

  • fantastic

wasnt this i t c that made this ,i thought it might have been gerry anderson as they were marrionettes ,but got that wrong ,before this programme we were watching schools and coleges , normally a harp piece of music counting down the minutes , thanks for this i cant imagine where u found it

  • This was my fave childhood TV show. Never thought I would see it again - thank you. Is it available yet on DVD ?

My parents even bought me the theme tune on a 7# single which I still have today.

    Great memories.

  • lol I swear Rupert actually has really good plots for a kid's show. I love the books I nearly took them to uni! :D

Cracking up at all the woman's random accents, she sounds like she's making them up on the spot.

  • Notice at the beginning, the timecard (or whatever it's called) shows the name Carlton International - Do they hold this, and others. I thought Carlton was a recent company name... does this mean they are planning an official DVD ?

  • to answer you question no Carton do not hold the copywrite I never found out who does and as far as i know no dvd is being releshed which is a crying shame

  • @hughes051 Carlton bought ITC's catalogue back in the mid 90's, then when Granada took over Carlton, they also took the ITC back catalogue too, Granada then became ITV Productions. The Adventures of Rupert suffered from poor storage by ITC, a third of the episodes were destroyed/wiped and the rest are caught up in copyright wrangles, hence why it's never seen a DVD release or even a VHS one for that matter.

  • @hughes051 The original copyright was by ITC Entertainment for world wide distribution. GRANADA VENTURES bought all ITC/ATV programmes a few years ago. It's still under this tag in the UK DVD distribution, but internationally it's ITV GLOBAL who use this tag for release overseas. Hope this helps....!

  • @hughes051

Officially Carlton was merged with all the other ITV companies. When this print was sold, sometime after 1993, it looks like it was sold abroad, hence the 'International' bit. ITC and Rank films are still owned by ITV,(Carlton bought the archives of these companies in the 90's) Your enquiries should be with Granada, and their offshoot is ITV DVD... Officially the prints should be still owned and archived by Granada.

  • Thanks for posting this! Its bought back so many memories,I can just remember this,it was one of my favorites!I used to cry when it ended!Im sick at the mo with the flu,so its great looking at thing like this! Thanks for posting!Where on earth did you get it from?

  • this must have been my fave when i was really young, i never wanted it to end...

  • hey? I thought all the episodes were wiped by archive staff in the 80s?

  • You can se some more episodes of 1970s puppet Rupert as part of RUPERT BEAR NIGHT, at BFI Southbank, London, 6.15 Wed 19 March! Introduced by the director herself!

  • My daughter loves the version of Rupert that they show on Tiny Pop - I'd forgotten all about this but the floating head titles came straight back to me

  • What bliss! Thanks so much. Reminds me of coming home for dinner aged 4 or 5 & having egg & chips with 'exotic'HP sauce as a treat!!! The cartoon was such a travesty when you'd been used to this. Heggarty (Haggerty?) used to frighten the bejesus out of me. Wish I'd kept all those old annuals now worth a fortune LOL.
